This poll is a case study of our society’s complete failure to teach Bayesian thinking.

I think it actually shows that a large group of supporters understand that Scott has had 10 years to develop and implement his game plan. He is good at getting us to finals but extremely poor at performing on the big stage. Beveridge and Longmire both managed to win a premiership 1 season after taking up their new roll as head coach... I can't find a coach in recent history who has won a premiership after 10 years with an ageing list using top ups... It took Hardwick a while but it was clear that their strategy revolved around developing youth and speed. I see absolutely nothing to suggest we are improving as a team - in fact what I see is that we are falling off. Our best players are nearly always our old blokes.

This sounds like the height of ignorance. You comment on a coach who was able to win a flag, played in a 3-peat era under Leigh Matthews, and has been able to get his team into contention a record number of times, and suggest he lacks motivational skill and what it takes to succeed in finals.
Until such time that he is dismissed, given that SHocking has now replaced Cook, he remains the best person for the job. Let's examine the actual list more closely- that's what needs overhauling, but that is the most difficult challenge, given that the best in the job in S Wells believes we are still top4 worthy.
What makes you believe he is the best? There are many other teams who have performed better than us over the past 10 years...

Over the last 10 years-
I would suggest Geelong has performed really well, apart from ultimate finals success, and I am not dismissing finals, but the big picture of CS and Geelong is highly impressive, and infuriates the AFL that we regularly occupy top 4.

No one cares or remembers how many finals a team makes... Tell me who finished 4th in 2018? no one cares. Premierships are the only meaningful measure.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you start to follow Geelong? It is a relevant question in this argument.

1990 - Do you consider Malcom Blight a great coach? He got us to 3 grand finals in 5 years of coaching. Then Ayres got us to a grand final again - is he a great coach? Chris Scott is on the same level as both of them. Both Thompson and Blight have better finals records compared to Scott.

Blight was a very good coach at Geelong, but has a use by date, and was a great coach at Adelaide.
Ayers was a good coach. Very maligned on this board.
Bomber was a great coach, as is CS.

Definitely not. But if Ross Lyon is in, and I don't like his style of coaching, but maybe he has the balls to reign Scotty in, make him change his ways a bit.

Scott/Hocking needs someone like Lyon for checks and balances. To date it has been a circle jerk for the most part IMO

Wells et al certainly believe we will be in a position next year to contend. We are slow and old, but there are some guns, some pride, and we are not yet dead and buried.
Yes we are dead and buried. Only the fools who have signed their pride to the current approach are clinging on cos their status depends on it. Just so happens those fools run the club.

Melbourne did. They finished fifth at the end of the regular season and were knocked out in the preliminary final. That took a whole two seconds of thought

Jesus ******* christ, its called frustration.

I'm not serious obviously.

Keep on enjoying your prelim/GF loss/prelims tho :thumbsupv1:
If I know anything, it's that this isn't something reactionary from you Shell! You've had issues with Scott for a long time, can still remember you stating as such loudly that one time I managed to come along to a game with some of the BigFooty folk a few years back (or was it more?) :D, a highlight of the day :)

You are not the majority lol.. I appreciate your rainman abilities to remember who finished in what position every year but history doesn't care. To the winners go all the spoils including the trophy.

I know a lot of life long cats supporters who see the extension of scotts contract as the last straw. They are done.

I'll be looking at getting a 3-gamer next year. And 99.9% due to this.*

*not about not winning flags (I mean I lived thru the 90s ffs), its more about wasting time.

So your still gonna waste your time then??
WOW that's making a statement... i guess... i think...

Then they must be f***wits if that’s what it takes.

‘Ok welcome to footy fans anonymous. Start by telling me your name, who you supported, and why you stopped.’

‘My name is Tim and I was a bombers supporter. I stopped because we cheated, have barely made finals in two decades and haven’t won any for that long.’

‘My name is Brian and I was a St Kilda supporter. I stopped supporting because even our best ever team couldn’t win a trophy and we haven’t won anything at all for more than half a century.’

‘My name is Aaron and I used to follow Fremantle. I stopped because we barely field competitive teams and have never won anything.’

‘My name is John and I followed Carlton. I stopped because we have been non competitive for most of the last 20 years and have had more coaches than most bus depots.’

‘My name is Ian and I was a Demons supporter but finishing bottom four most years for 15 seasons and getting utterly walloped every second week was too much.’

‘Yeah my name is Seeds’ Mate and I stopped supporting Geelong because we kept making preliminary finals and wouldn’t sack the coach.’

I agree with all this. Except the use by date bit. He was still really good when he left.
Ayers is way too maligned. The best chance we had in the 90's to win a flag IMOO was 97 under Ayers.
Obviously Bomber and Scott are good.

I am a no -

But you can’t deny the following successful years and performing on the big stage. Winning it or nothing is a bit entitled or simplistic for me. Having said that I am a no because I think it’s time for a new approach- but I am pleased that whatever is happening at the club it looks like a big shake up. Anyways some thoughts on pro Scotty years

but 2011 is a tick.

2013 a tick (an epic pre lim against a generational team without a ruckman - Varco - godbless him could have drawn it) proud and sad cats supporter that night

2019- without Hawkins (for a smart footy mind in general play the loveable hawk sure can be a ……. ….) but a great team performance 20 points up- danger injured in second half and TK got us back to within 5 in the last- we didn’t roll over. I was frustrated with Blitz on the wing but in fairness harry T did beat lynch the next year in the granny. That game had hendo at fullforward - young Esava as a the other target - Ablett not able to kick over 35m with hammy- miers as a pup who after a sniper shot from Houli went from hero to zero- Atkins as a forward - danger limping and narkle playing as well as a young Henry too Henry may have played well I can’t recall - anyways that’s a tick in my book

2020 big tick - danger and Ablett were barely there with injuries - dusty vs kola I mean what do you do? I don’t condone it and glad it isn’t in the game but I can see why those without morals used to take out players in the past.

201612017 prelims against Adelaide and swans hurt and crosses - final we lost to melb also a bit embarrassing - so they are crosses for me and we’re our game just didn’t stand up at all.
2021 seems the same- just blown off the park- so he can get it very wrong - as these aren’t admirable 5 goal losses

Still that’s a successful era for mine. As for Lyon I love the idea- takes an intellectual stubborn strange tough man to know an intellectual stubborn strange tough man - I really think they could help each other - Kelly, Betts and hopefully Egan can bring a bit of joy back to the place - as for Lyon being difficult it’s irrelevant to me but club need to do due diligence on the claims of sexual harassment- if they proven and bad then I wouldn’t hire him for free- we are a better club and society because if we don’t tolerate that shit

Absolutely this. I would just be looking elsewhere tbh. Don't want him anywhere near our club.

Yes they do...

What do u mean no one cares or remembers...

The MEMBERS
The SUPPORTERS
The BARRACKERS
The FANS

I would say they all do and did.

I know i did. It's been a journey of over 45 years for me. Wish i had another 45 years. As I loved every minute of it.

As for the rest of the world who really gives a Rat's Toss bag what they think.

Yes,
But only because not giving him an extension would be the equivalent of 'sacking him but still in charge for 12 dismal months'. (ie endless speculation throughout the season, him looking for other opportunities, players disengaged etc)
AND, its not like there is an obvious candidate out there ready to take this team to the next level.
And, despite atrocious finals series, we did make the prelims or better for the last 3 years - hard to justify sacking a guy with that record.

Re Ross Lyon:
Not so keen. Another defence at all costs mentality. I long for the days of Malcolm Blight - Attack, Attack and more attack. Scorelines of 156 to 147. As a spectator, you'd be as exhausted as the players!
