A Doctor by any other name is still the Doctor. Eccleston is the Tenth, Tennant the Eleventh Doctor.
In the chronological numbering, yes. Well... Tennant was the Eleventh AND Twelfth Doctors. But in terms of actor numbering, Excleston was the Ninth actor and the Ninth Doctor. Tennant was the Tenth. It all comes down to personal preference, but the actor numbering (with John Hurt as the War Doctor) is was is most accepted in terminology.

How was he both?
Tennant? He regenerated in Parting of the Ways, his last episode (a two parter) of the normal seasons, but only used it to heal himself and kept the same face. This therefore used up a regeneration. As Matt Smiths doctor says, "I had vanity issues at the time"

I quite liked it, I was expecting a lot worse for the Doctor-lite episode though. I'd probably have it in my top 3 for the season. My only criticism is that they could have fleshed-out the identity/origin/motives of the monster a bit more though.

The preview for next week looks ghastly though. Danny Pink and teenagers

To be honest, I thought "Flatliners" was the best episode of the series to date. Tautly written and the suspense was maintained just about throughout the episode. I guess the ending suffered from the Deus Ex Machina syndrome but it was an understandable way of finishing the episode.

Flatliners was easily the best of the season in my opinion. Not that too many other episodes were much good, but this was superb. It had a few wrong moments, but overall brilliant. I almost agve up on Who early in the season.
I am concerned wih what looks like a kids and Danny heavy episode coming up. We really could have done without Mr Pink.

Todays episode is brought to you by Greenpeace, not too flash

In a word, cringeworthy. Very disappointing after a strong episode last week.

I'm not sure if there's a term for it, but the main characters seemed to have zero effect on the actual outcome of events. I don't accept that sending out a warning to stop defoliating is enough interaction with the events happening around the characters. (And from a scientific point of view, I seriously doubt that defoliation could occur quickly enough to affect the impact of solar flares.)

The idea of a city being overrun by a forest is an intriguing one, but I don't feel the writers really nailed it as a concept. A lot of the time it felt like they were in an actual forest with a phone box or a tube-station sign planted down. Where were the people?

As for the kids and Mr. Pink, :drunk:.

This season has been the most childish spoonfed, slap in the face methaphors loaded rubbish.

All three women deciding whether to "abort" the moon..
The planet going green to save the world..

Jenna Coleman is a pretty girl but her storyline is done, this doctor has become a simpleton that has no impact on the outcome of a simple straightforward story. I keep expecting a twist where it doesn't turn out to be the obvious ending, but it never is.

It's like House where it's a circus until five minutes left then he has a bright idea and fixes it all with a simple solution.

I wonder if the real "childish" things are a result of them trying to still appeal to the younger audience while having a grumpy old man as the Doctor and maybe overcompensating.

The way the episodes can be quite up and down suggests to me they may still be trying to find the right balance. Could be wrong though, maybe it's just rubbish writing :(
