The series so far:

Episodes with the Doctor, Clara, the token boyfriend have been rubbish
Episodes with the Doctor, Clara, the token boyfriend, the token black school kid have been rubbish
Episodes with the Doctor, Clara and the token black school kids has been crap
Episode with the Doctor, Clara, the token boyfriend, the token school kids have been rubbish
Episode with the Doctor and Clara have been slightly watchable
Episode on the train with mainly the Doctor (Clara light episode) ok with a poor ending
Doctor light episode with just Clara, best episode of the series

I think the trend is, no token boyfriend, no token black school kid, no token kids, less Doctor and more Clara gets a better episode, maybe no Doctor at all and just Clara will save the new series

The lack of the Sarah Jane Cronicles is eating into the Doctor who target audience demographic. Without an adult torch wood it's drawing more mature viewers into a disappointing experience.
Fair point.

I miss Torchwood :( Well, the earlier stuff anyway.

It saddens me the amount of transphobic bigotry that has greeted the revelation of Missy's character ..

People don't seem to realize that Transgeder people are a sizeable part of our population now, so much ignorance out there.

Very good episode, hopefully next week can match it.
I really wish they hadn't shown the Cybermen on the preview though. I loved the concept of "dark water," but the preview spoilt the mystique around the tombs.
I'd seen the preview but thankfully wasn't paying much attention and had actually forgotten about all about before watching today.

Great episode, sets the series up for an epic finale.

stuff happened in the preview that didn't happen in the last episode. Odd.

I don't mind that so much (can't be any worse than the last silly incarnation of the Master) but already again? I'm sick of the character, why not just come up with a new enemy? Or heck even the Rani or something if they really had to bring something back.[/spolier]

Already? It's been almost 5 years. Only made three appearances since 1981, and one was in THAT movie.[/spoilers]

When used properly The Cybernen are the best Alien/Monster race in Doctor Who, much more interesting and menacing then the Daleks ..

Some guy's girlfriend on Twitter apparently had a breakdown watching Dark Water cause her parents were cremated. I feel bad she reacted like that, but honestly she seems a bit too highly strung really.

They look pretty cool and the retro voices aren't bad but I hate the stomping thing they have now and especially the sound it makes. Would be way better if they moved around more gracefully and most importantly silently, I don't know creeping up on people from around corners and strangling them or something.

Sounds like what happened in the first two episodes.
1- Some girl complained to the BBC cos she has a mental condition that makes her pull out her hair when shes stressed to the point that she becomes bald. Apparently something like 0.02% of the lanet have this condition and the BBC should have canceled the episode. Complete over reaction
2- Some woman complained because her brother died while she was next to him in a car accident and she didnt like Journey's way of coping.

Ugh .. Apparently now Missy snogging the Doctor constitutes sexual assault by the rabid feminists on Tumblr, ignoring the fact that David Tennant's bones were jumped several times in his series, by Billie Piper (possessed by Cassandra), the hot Sophia Myles and Kylie ..

The hypocrisy and double standards of those Moffat hating fangirls really shits me ..

How does complaining about perceived sexual assault by a female make them "rabid feminists"? If they were "rabid feminists", wouldn't they be championing that moment as demonstrating how women can be openly sexual and blah blah?

I agree with you the complaining is stupid, but you've kind of called them the exact opposite of what they are. "Moffat hating fangirls" however I approve of.

Anyone notice there has been more women characters and ethnic/dark skinned people in this series then probably any other series in 50 years of Dr Who, yet the whinging anti Moffat freaks still accuse him of lacking Diverse Characters ??

Amazes me the depth of anger and bitterness these sad miserable 'so called fans'have against Moffat, the Tumblr moaners have even taken to creating a new word 'Hetronomative' or some crap like that, because he apparently he has ruined their silly sexual shipping fantasies between John Simm's Master and Tennant's Dpctor ..

Honestly hope Moffat stays for another 5 years at least, but i suspect/fear series 9 of Nu-Who will be his last. (Happy for Mark Gatiss or Toby Whithouse to take over)

The characters are still lacking on dimensions for a 4D show. Just having dark skin doesn't make them more interesting, it's just a better reflection of life.

The new doctor hasn't established his ancillary characters yet (Capt. Jack, River Song etc) that inevitably build on the doctor's character development. I haven't seen any indications yet that the new doctor's face has been seen before by future characters, such as River saying how young her doctor looked.
