Oh okay, so I'm not allowed to like a design if I think people take certain symbols too seriously. Glad we cleared that up. I will cease having opinions about football club guernseys as well since they're also designs.

It's a good bit of entertainment! Apparently that was only a tiny part of an even longer scene that was unfortunately cut and then lost.

NZ's referendum on a new flag couldnt get it over the line. That argument of soldiers dying under the union jack laden flag seemed a major obstacle.

When I look at the sort of people who wrap themselves in our flag I honestly don't see a lot to be proud of, cookers, Pauline Hanson, Christian Nationalists, Morrison and his face mask, the Australia/ANZAC day flag as a cape crowd. These people certainly don't represent the best of us and yet they seem to have co-opted our national symbol as their own leading some people to be a touch reticent in displaying it lest they be lumped in with these type of people. Does our flag have an image problem?

In general yes and it's a bloody shame. Some groups tend to resent it these days and it causes a divide "hey don't disrespect the flag our diggers fought for" "yes but it's nationalism not patriotism" etc etc

We, as a nation, have no identity.

If people's problems are with the flag wavers then it's probably not going to be fixed with a new flag to wave.

I think the Canadians really knocked it out of the park with their design and I think a concept like the Golden Wattle flag is in that vein.

Most other potential designs are an absolute mess.

I'm pro changing the flag, but I also don't think removing the Union Flag, 7 pointed star or Southern Cross are going to stop nationalists from being nationalists. You can always find dickhead Australians wherever you go in the world and most of them aren't carrying flags.

Haven't seen one I love yet. I am a fan of retaining the star and Southern Cross and incorporating green and gold into the design. Maybe top right with the wavy green and gold.

The ones incorporating the aboriginal flag tend to look too busy. Maybe I'm alone but I'm in favour of changing the flag and maintaining the 3 flag policy.

The Golden Wattle would be an easier sell IMO, still maintains the Green & Gold that we actually use all the time in our team uniforms, removes the Southern Cross to troll all the bogans with Southern Cross tattoos, and has no particular connection to any of the existing flags.

If you're wanting a new flag to signify change from the old, then make it new.

While we're at it, change the national anthem to Waltzing Matilda too, we'd go from possibly the worst national anthem in the world to the best.

I do appreciate that people on the right call me 'of the left' and people on the left call me 'of the right'. Must mean I'm doing something right.

Yes, trolling the bogans with Southern Cross tattoos would amuse me.

Also the current flag has the Southern Cross on it, and I've already said a new flag shouldn't re-use imagery from the old.
