I do appreciate that people on the right call me 'of the left' and people on the left call me 'of the right'. Must mean I'm doing something right.

Yes, trolling the bogans with Southern Cross tattoos would amuse me.

Also the current flag has the Southern Cross on it, and I've already said a new flag shouldn't re-use imagery from the old.
There are valid reasons for wanting to change the flag. They should be carefully considered and consider the long-term, i.e., the new flag should theoretically be forever. Petty sh*t-flinging at bogans is about as far from a valid reason as it gets.

Waaah.

I've given valid reasons for why I don't believe the Southern Cross should be on it.

Don't re-use existing imagery from the current flag. A new flag should be new, not a revised current one.

Trolling bogans would just be an amusing bonus outcome.

golden wattle, with indigenous colours? or incorporate both? as long we we get rid of the union jack.

i'm not into the green & gold being on the flag. Thats the sporting colours, doesn't need to be on the flag.
I like the Southern Cross, but I hate that the bogans have it tattooed on their backs.

I think using the colours from the existing Aboriginal flag is a harder sell, whereas the green & gold combo is one that's already in-use and fairly universally accepted as 'Australian' by the population, worn by our athletes at international competitions, and AFAIK not a controversial colour scheme amongst any particular group.

Those who aren't really onboard with the change will definitely not accept the Black / Red / Yellow colour scheme, but might accept the green & gold as an evolution of the boxing kangaroo flag.

I actually like both of those designs. If I had to pick, I'd go for the one on the right. Not a racist f*ckwit, but I actually like that southern cross design. We should reclaim it from those bastards!

I see what you’re saying…. i just find the green n gold a bit… meh - they’re not great colours imo.

but if it was a vote down to keeping the flag or green/gold design id vote for it.

I actually really like the first one, even if it seems to be smuggling Essendon colours onto the flag by stealth.

I don't mind adapting the colours from the current Aboriginal flag, but I could see how the Torres Strait Islanders might not appreciate their flag being ignored, and inevitably there'll be a heap of people that are anti using the colours from the Aboriginal flag for <reasons>.

Yes Gethelred, people exist who aren't invested in being as far to the extreme of either political spectrum as they can. Confusing for you I know.
It's not confusing at all. You're a soft liberal, ergo you're going to cop some heat from both those further left than you and anyone on the right who is mildly more authoritarian in bent.

I'm rolling my eyes at the implication that people telling you you're wrong means you're in fact correct.

Mostyn Evan, the biggest loser of the Adelaide Oval redevelopment who went from having a grandstand named after him to almost unmarked in the new oval is credited with coming up with the green and gold as Australia's colours in sport.

No they're complaining I'm not on their 'side', ergo I'm in the centre, where I'm quite happy being.

You like to use labels as a pejorative, I know
.
What?

Someone didn't get his weeties this morning, I take it.

I've spoken before - at length - as to why centrism doesn't exist as a political philosophy, but soft liberalism isn't centrism. It's a mild left wing political doctrine. Painting you as a soft liberal is describing you accurately, not trying to be insulting.

It was cold this morning, I went with porridge, sensible choice.

I know! I like the southern cross on the flag.

It’d be fun to keep the bogans busy for a few hours and ask them to locate the southern cross at night.

I was just wondering how the green n gold came about. I like those colours for sporting events.

If bogans wearing the flag is the problem, then any flag is going to have that impact.

Even if it were the indigenous flag and they all lost their minds initially, as soon as there was a hint of nationalism in the air, they'd be draping it over themselves and getting drunk again and we'd be back to this problem.

A flag will always be a symbol of nationalism and nationalism will (almost) always lead to problems.

To be honest, I don't really care, the country will be more important than the symbolism.

Don't forget, the cookers are also flying Eureka and old Maritime flags to fly an alternative to the current flag for reasons of which I'm not sure.

Also, you can just adopt any flag you like and stick that out front of your house/business. It's not like the Green/Gold for sport was a long-disputed decision.
