ABC commentators are baffled regarding the concept that the ruckman isn't allowed to bodyline the opponent without even trying to get the ball.

commentators now going on about rules they don’t know

Textbook free, can’t keep the opposing ruck out of the contest and not get the ball yourself

So are the Ch 7 commentary team

Great start, they got on a run & we managed to stop them. They have a few liabilities in their team tonight, need to take advantage of that.

Naughton was clearly shoved out of the marking contest well before the ball arrived just inside 50 late in the quarter. Commentary team called it as it happened but quickly clammed up saying it was "a great intercept mark by Hawthorn".

Umps need to pay those.

Especially if they paid the one against Weightman, which was a bit iffy. The one against Naughton was a clear free.

"worked out of the contest" ie huge push in the back.

They only got on a run with a series of free kicks. When they dried up we took over again. They haven't really looked like taking the game apart.

Every contac they make with our players is on the edge of legal, and they whinge when they cross the line.

They're just like Richmond in that regard, play on the edge and then complain that they give away frees. Still ridiculous that the umpires managed to pay five frees in four minutes to them to start off.

Reminds me of the game my father went to with me in 1979. He said he thought he understood the game fairly well, but he didn't understand the umpiring.

Need to get deeper entries, even if they aren’t perfect.

Felt we controlled the tempo pretty well for the last 10 minutes, but a long way to go.

Sneaky good quarter from VDM.
