I’ve been informed Richmond will be on the move to Qld later today with potentially more Vic teams joining them.

We may see a mass exodus to beat any other state borders to Victoria closing

EDIT by Chief:

The AFL wishes to advise of an update to arrangements ahead of Round 18 of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season following the evolving Covid situation.
  • The match tonight between Fremantle and the Geelong Cats at Optus Stadium will proceed as planned in accordance with Covid protocols in line with WA Government requirements.
  • The Western Bulldogs will travel to Gold Coast this morning via charter flight ahead of their fixtured match against the Gold Coast SUNS to be played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, July 17.
  • The Sydney Swans and GWS GIANTS will relocate from Melbourne to Queensland via charter flight this morning as part of the AFL’s cautious approach relating to the evolving Covid situation. Their Round 18 match, fixtured to be played at Mars Stadium in Ballarat will be relocated, with a venue to be determined shortly.
  • North Melbourne and Essendon will travel from Melbourne to Queensland via charter flight this afternoon with their Round 18 match, fixtured to be played at Marvel Stadium to be relocated, with a venue to be determined shortly.
  • AFL Supplementary Protocols will be in place for all Victorian teams from midday today, Thursday July 15.
AFL Executive General Manager Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said the league would continue to make decisions that ensure the season is able to progress during the ongoing pandemic.

“The decisions we have made this morning regarding the locations of a number of teams have been taken out of an abundance of caution. Our approach remains to take risk out of the season where the opportunity presents,” Mr Auld said.

The way things are going we could be watching the beginning of the end of the AFL. This is not just suddenly going to change next year. It’s going to be a very long haul.

Should have been Tassie, Essendon would have all home games.

No idea why more clubs aren’t off to Tassie, seems the safest, there’s two stadiums, plenty of local clubs to train at, and the big clubs will sell out their games.

They’re somehow planning for a few weeks at a time I guess.

Completely agree. The Premier said he would be happy to accommodate it too.
There's more than two AFL level grounds here. KG5 in Glenorchy, North Hobart Oval, Bellerive Oval, York Park, Twin Ovals in Kingborough and West Park in Burnie are all high standard footy grounds. An exhibition in Queenstown could be a laugh, I hear AFL players would love to play on gravel.

The answer is obvious. It'd likely be a rip roaring success and the momentum re: Tassie gaining their own standalone team would be unstoppable...

This must mean Brisbane are on the move today as well. Haven’t seen this reported anywhere so you seem first with the news.

we need 1 weeks notice to get the TV equipment down here to broadcast the match

If only we had a full-time team down here which would make it economic to keep such equipment FT on the island.

On the left... A professional football club. On the right... A bunch of randoms that don't even know how to wear face masks.

Any wonder these clowns haven't won a flag yet.

Those masks cost 10 cents each in bulk they literally do nothing. You don't see people working in dusty environments wearing surgical masks they wear respirators. That's for dust which is significantly bigger than an airborne virus. Those cheap masks have no chance of stopping the virus particles from moving through the porous material.

If Sydney were half serious they'd at least get all their players in an N95 masks, give them proper eye protection.

This season is beyond cooked in terms of the locations and change of fixture etc, will be interesting to see what happens with QLD case numbers.
