Dont get sucked by the nth stirrers. They should be out trying to get more members instead of taking cheaps shots. Anyhow the Afl website talked up Higgins game but reading an earlier post he wasn't a stand out. Can anyone confirm? Also how did Ward go ?

You went?

Who was your best for each team?

I'm a bit worried about the lack of any form of defensive pressure from the reports here.... I'm happy to be corrected by those with more information, but when every other side seems to be working on defensive tactics, we let an undermanned side kick 9 in the last to win...

This concerns me....

Couldn't agree more, I don't give two sh*ts about the result but letting through that many goals is a concern. An unfit Lake and Hargrave, along with losing Harbrow is not ideal. When we need to rely on Tom Williams playing a key defensive role we are in big trouble IMO.

I was there and I didn't get that impression at all. May have been a case of the 6 blokes outside our best 22 busting a gut to stay in the side.

The North fightback in the last quarter was due to Swallow's dominance in the centre square and Thomas' crumbing. Wouldn't say the Dogs took it easy, in fact they resorted to a few Griff "Hail Mary" style plays and would have probably tied it up late if not for some undisciplined action in the goal square while Skinner was lining up directly in front.

Unfortunately for North: 1 injury, bulldogs 0
Thats really the only stat that matters in these games.

The CH7 news reported Griffen went off with a shoulder injury.

Whats the go there. Anyone got any further info on that?

Was a good day out at Ballarat. Entertaining and high scoring game. Both sides obviously missing 'best 22' players so a pissing contest immaterial.

For mine, very glad we came back from 5 goals down, showed great fight. Even if we'd lost by a point (as I thought we were going to late in the last) I'd still be happy, because of that fight.

Thomas was magic. No shame in getting done by LT. When he's on, he's one of the best small/medium forwards in the game. His problem is consistency, not ability.

For you guys Cooney was just Rolls Royce smooth. Class act.

Even though it was a practice game, both sides played it at a very high and hard pace. It doesn't 'mean' anything per se, but to suggest that either side wasn't taking it seriously is wrong. Its the last serious hitout before Round One. Neither side was taking short steps although both did have moves they wouldn't use in a premiership points game.

Hall did stuff all, combination of being matched up on a good emerging defender, getting some poor delivery and generally having one of those days (but he does look a yard slower).

Still, you kicked a decent score so no need to panic I wouldn't imagine.

Aww how sweet

Piss off.

For all the North supporters getting excited about a practice match result, here is a quote from the North Melbourne coach about the game which puts the whole game in perspective:
"The Bulldogs took Barry Hall off, they experimented. They probably could have put the foot on our throat if they'd really wanted to, but still our guys had to run it out and they did."

No one is getting excited, and while it's nice for BS to say that, Barry Hall was so quiet today that the Dogs actually improved while he was off the ground.

Worth noting that for a period of 5-6 minutes in the last we had Petrie and Goldstein off the ground and left the rucking duties to Pedersen, who would be lucky to be 6'3".

So you know more than the coach. You are deluded.

I saw in some photos from either last weeks game or the week before, he had his shoulder strapped. So there is obviously some sort of niggle with it. I dont think it would be serious, since the club has said nothing about it.

Couple of bad apples doesn't make us all bad.....win lose or draw, from a nth melb side of view it was a good hit out as you guys are top 4 from last year and one of the bench marks.... We're a young side on the way up I hope and yes we want to beat you.... I'm sure all teams with their last hit out b4 rd 1 wanting to dot the " i's " and cross the "T's" so to speak.......our forward line structure is what were working with most as this is our achillies heel to kick 9 goals in the last Qtr against u lads when 4 goals down is pleasing......1 thing I do want to know is If bazza is soon to finish who takes over that power forward role?
Best of luck ....bla bla bla.....
And yes looking forward to the real game @ the Arab stadium

Barry Hall had about 4 kicks mate. If Brad Scott actually thinks he would have won the game for the Dogs and wasn't just playing the result down a bit then I'm afraid that YES I do know more than the coach.
Firstly,if Hall had stayed on it could have still made the difference, but on a hot day and in a scratch match and not having done much up to then, why risk him. In a real game he would have stayed on.
Secondly, read the whole statement, where Scott also said:

"They probably could have put the foot on our throat if they'd really wanted to."I do not need any convincing that the Bulldogs were more concerned with the trip home than with the result of this matchand I didn't even needBrad Scott to confirm this reality. You think you know more than the coach, which is exactly why he is the coachand you aren't.

From my point of view, practice match or not, this game posed more questions than it provided answers.

Firstly, if increased forward pressure was a key feature identified for improvement I didn't really see it today, the opposition ran it out of there quite easily most of the time.
Secondly, I'm not convinced we are quicker than last year, North's smaller guys were able to burst from the wings and from packs faster than us to deliver the ball forward.
Handballs to guys under pressure is still a feature (OK, it's early days yet).
We've recruited a few smaller forward types but there was no effective small crumber at the feet of the talls. (Thomas played this role perfectly).
Frankly, not sure there's a role any more for Gilbee, he's too slow on small forwards, doesn't provide much run and is beaten in the air by taller guys. Hope I'm wrong on him.
Our rucks win plenty of hit outs at centre bounces but onballers don't attack these balls in numbers.
Picken is the bravest player on the list and others should learn from his efforts.
That's just a few impressions of the match. Not too concerned - yet!

I was hoping to find out a bit about how our squad went in today's hit out but have just read pages and pages of drivel and pointless responding to trolls with kindergarten "Tis!" "Tis NOT!" type banter.

I'd really appreciate it if someone who was there (from our board) could give us a bit of a summary of the WB players' efforts. Who went well and who didn't. What worked and what didn't.

Thanks guys.

And well done, North. I hope you stick it up a few of the bigger clubs this year.

Since I saw these 4 drinking jugs at the pub this arvo/tonight. Can anyone shed light on if they played today (seniors or ressies) and/or if they are injured.

Cordy
Addison
Reid
Howard.

They were well behaved and quietly minding their own business, but I just wondered if they all had injuries or just "rehyrdrating" from a hot game?
