Best way to smuggle in your alcohol...

I go to the footy with my Dad and a few other mates, he developed a way to get his bourbon in for free. Before the game he puts it in non see through drink bottles and when they get inspected he just says its water for us.

When in the ground, simply mix with coke(or don't) and enjoy.

Never been caught in 5 years

Its the cost to spotless by the Stadium thats the killer. They charge them heavily for the right to be the sole vendor in the place. They need to make it back somehow, so little old us pays through the nose.

Spotless don't have the contract at TD, a company called Delaware North Australia do.

Or you could just put it in a flask and stick it in your pocket, I wouldn't even call it "sneaking" as it's that easy to take your own booze in - it's much easier to cop the price of the coke inside though rather than mixing it outside and taking it in a bottle of coke - we nearly got busted at the cricket doing this a a couple of yrs back

No sympathy..if you're stupid enough to buy their food dont complain about the prices.
The perfect menu.
get a coffee thermos, preferable a wide one. If you dont have one you can get one for the price of about 2 hotdogs from TD.
Go to your local s/market and get some Vienna Frankfurts.. you'll need 2 per person... they cost about 80cents each.
Get a tin of tomato soup..$1.20
Get a packet of 6 hotdog rolls. about $1.30.

Boil a saucepan of water... When bolied let simmer and heave in the frangers. Let them simmer for 420 seconds.
At the same time chuck the soup in another s/pan and and heat to boiling stirring occassionally.
Chuck the frangers in the thermos, top it up with tomato soup.
Dont forget the rolls.. Chuck in some tongs, and tommy sauce.

Overall cost if you already have the thermos.. ( for 6) $7.30 and youve fed 3 people. nicer than those ____en hotties they sell.

Once you're tried this, you will be responding to this post congratulating me. Dont bother..just send money

I just need some mustard and I'm good to go.

The staff were refusing to allow anyone to take pizzas or food in obvious bags from the food outlets outside the dome on saturday night. Is that usual?

50 gram pack of smiths and 600ml bottle of coke cost me $12.50 at Manuka in 2006, bad experience that has turned me away from that venue for good.

Is normal. Not unexpected.... I can't think of anyone who would prefer to buy food inside than outside.

If you're silly enough to buy food n drink inside then you pay for it. Simple. I often buy a coke inside for 4 bucks but that's okay as it will last me the game.

I used to buy beers during the game but stopped due to the price and the fact they're usually shit beer and half strength at that. Now I have a drink in the locker room before and after the game and a coke during. Easy enough.

The food is terrible at the footy though. I stand so I can't be bothered with bringing in my own so will usually just buy a pie or nothing at all. I have a meal before going so a pie is a luxury at the game on a cold night not a necessity.

If I were someone who sits at a game and has a few kids I would definitely take nibbles and do the hot dogs in the thermos thing as I know a lot of people do that.

I once worked for Spotless catering during the Sydney Olympics. It was a f*cking mess. There was little supervision from management so there were people (btw everyone was a casual) pocketing money from the till; stock taking was crap so everyone felt free to eat and drink the merchandise - I had access to booze reefer at one stage and there was plenty of non-presentable but perfectly fine bottles and cans of beer & alcopops.

Coodabeens fans might recall Massive Merv's Hot Fat Footy Snack :

Take a baguette. Cut in half. Scoop out the bread, and discard. Fill one half with batter, the other with hot fat. Put 2 halves together, dip in batter, fry in hot fat. Maa-aa-aa-ate!!!

Unfortunately they do. They also do the tennis centre.

They are useless!!! (At least they were when they took over the stadium midway through the 2000 season). From what I can se attending the football, they still are pretty bad.

Seriously, I have had enough of people whinging about the price of food / drink at the footy.

If you don't like it, either eat before you go or take your own food / drink to the game.

It's like the people that whine about Gordon Ramsey swearing on the telly. If you don't like it, don't f*@king watch it.......................

Vote with your feet people.

Of course former AFL Commisioner Graeme Samuel is a Director of Spotless....

Kind of ironic this guy now is now chairman of the ACCC, the supposed consumer watchdog. Obviously must be aware of the price rorting that occurs at Telstra Dome and yet does nothing about it. I guess we've all got the option of eating at the food court in Southern Cross before the game. And why is this bay 13?

Last night.. A pox looking hot-dog and 600ml coke cost me $9.20

Lets be serious here, if the cost price of the dog, bun and coke + the labor involved to prepare the dog and serve me was more than $1 i'd be surprised (remember they buy the goods in bulk and pay overseas students around $8-$10 p/hour to serve & prepare)..

I think the management of the all food and bev is outsourced to a catering company called "Spotless".. I understand this company must turn a profit, but there is a difference between turning a profit and blatantly ripping the consumer off!

I can't believe the AFL allow this !

Some of the prices are great.

In the Pub at the ground u can get a parma and a pot for under $20 which is competitive with most pubs in Melbourne

How about all you can eat seats?

A few US sports teams have all you can eat in an attempt to get rid of the crappy seats. A premium is charged over the regular price. However, there is a lot more downtime in a baseball game compared to the AFL - maybe it could work for cricket?
