Rozee had good results in draft testing. He was quicker in the 20m sprint than Rankine.

Showing his athletic prowess in games leaping for marks, chasing down opponents for key tackles, and providing run, the results of projected top-10 selection Connor Rozee were not surprising. He placed second in the 20m sprint, equal third in the running vertical jump (left foot) and had top-10 finishes in the standing vertical jump, agility and the running vertical jump (right foot).

******* lol - with what exactly? They’ve got a shit draft hand.

“Oh hai, I was wondering if you’d give up one of your two rolled gold draft picks for this shitty copper spittoon called picks 8, 13 and 16...”

i imagine they'd ask for all three of pick 3... But GC don't have that many list spots available (at the moment a anyway) so thats fairly unlikely, dont think they'd trade down an elite player for players outside the super 7

Also - we are putting Rozee out there as a potential selection so Gold Coast don’t think they can get him with 6
after selecting Lukosius and Rankine.

We need Gold Coast to pick Lukosius and Rozee with 2 and 3 so one of Rankine or Smith is available at 5. If both are available...we pick Rankine and offer 10 and 15 to the Dogs for 7 to get Smith after Gold Coast picks Rozee.

Goodbye gray skies, hello blue...

Agreed, if GC take Rankine no way does Rozee get past us at 5.

Maybe Hately is halfway between brad Ebert and Callan ward? Maybe there is a better comparison. Definitely not like wines at all. Moves and kicks better.

Hately is more Heppell than Ebert. He has more class than Ebert and uses the ball more consistently. Also significantly better inside than what Ebert has been through his career.

If we can get Hately at 10 it's a massive win.

Think crows get him at 8 if they cant move up

Just watched some Smith highlights and can’t say I was that impressed. Not the kind of player we need at all. We need outside pace and skill.

Did you watch highlights of the right Smith?

Smith has plenty of pace and is a very good kick.

If Cal Twomey's right Hately gets picked at 11. He's also got Rozee at 7 but form guides don't take in the murmurings that come from the different camps and whether teams pick for wants or needs. Tipping the draft is a much less exact science than it is in America where their game is a lot more regimented and it's more obvious what teams need.

Found my boy for pick 15 albeit a smokey and probably a reach. Metro captain Xavier O'Halloran

186cm 82kg Afl ready body.
Combine results:
Kicking test 22 equal 5th
Standing vertical equal 6th
20m sprint 2.96 top 8
Agility 8.063 2nd
Yoyo/beep 21.6 equal 4th
2km equal 7th

more importantly he possess the alex witherden low penetrating kicking style. Watch Ben Kings "highlights" video against SA about 1.42 specifically the play where hes surrounded by 3 SA players and a player wearing #18 delivers a wormburner of a delivery to hit him on the chest. Its O'Halloran. We know how much we love our state league captains. The knock on him is accumilation as in he is a low possesion with high hurt factor player

Can see St Kilda taking Max King at 4. They desperately need a quality tall forward. They should be trying to trade up to pick 2 to get Lukosius.

It will be negligent of Gold Coast not to take the King brothers at 2 & 3. Not the best players in the top 10 but this is about building a club. Any other scenario and whoever they pick leaves garuanteed.
Plus this guarantees Lukosius and Rankine go 4 & 5 leaving them Smith at 6. Smith played alongside the Kings at Sandringham and VM.

They’d get 3 stars- CHF, CHB and Mid and minimize the go home factor as much as they can. Smith sounds like the sort of character they need- compulsive trainer, good citizen. If they are serious about a culture change, this scenario would be very appealing to them.

Oh....it also leaves Rankine to us.

GC

i dont think GC want Rankine, i think they want Louko & Rozee with picks 2 & 3, if they had 5 they would most probably take him then, im more worried about st kilda trading 4 to the crows because they think King will be available at 8

Tbh I’m not fussed if Adelaide get ahead of us. They might get Rankine but then we will get Rozee or Smith. Rozee may have a little less X-factor than Rankine but he could easily be a higher production player. Rozee has shown great athletic results at draft camp anyway and he is still a bit freakish. Smith is just a ball winning midfield beast. Any of them will be ready to play round 1 next year.

For Adelaide to get ahead of us they will have to push all their chips into the middle of the table. We set the price for a top 5 pick with the Freo trade and they only accepted to get the picks they needed to get their big deals over the line.

I wonder if our preparedness to let Polec and Wingard go has to do with game plan. Polec couldn’t work harder than he did as his foot had to be managed. Wingard seemingly didn’t train hard enough. We seemingly need everyone to run hard both ways for our plan to work.

I don’t know if that will influence our choice but we seem to be moving away from flair and towards hard running.

Yeah, I think this is a bit blown out of proportion. We've traded to pick 5 to have the opportunity to draft a gun, not to beat Adelaide to the punch. If they find a way to get into the top 6, good for them, they'll have a seat at the table but it won't impact our strategy.

Nah. We traded 6 up to 5 because we have someone specific we want, and most likely to stop the crows grabbing a pick ahead of us.

It's win win in the sense that if the crows do get a pick ahead of us we will still get a jet - however I'm convinced our main priority is to grab an SA boy who the crows are also keen on, and that player is most certainly Rankine.

I'm very vague on this kind of stuff, didn't watch any under 18 championships and don't follow the career paths of young players at all until they hit the big time.

Seen some highlights of Luko and Rankine, and Rozee impressed me in brief snippets watching the SANFL finals.

I've also heard from a couple outsiders that Bailey Smith is arguably the most talented player in the draft.

I'd be happy with any of those 4, not expecting Luko to be there at 5 so I've factored him out.

I just hope the one we are most keen on is still there, to make the farm selling worth it.

If i was a betting man i would bet on Rankine being the one we really want to be there still at 5, i may be wrong, really interested to hear the thoughts on those a bit more in the know who they reckon our number one target is.

And are we done yet? Will we trade up again?

I'm the same, its either Adelaide ahead of us, or someone else.
Its generally thought Walsh goes one. From there, it seems there's a couple of scenarios.
In terms of SA talent, if Luko, Rankine, and Rozee went 2,3,4 - we end up with Smith - who seems to be one of the best mids in the draft with (correct me if I'm wrong) a bit of outside game as well.

I'd imagine if one of the big two SA boys drop we would jump. What would be interesting for me, and might be the best case scenario would be if Rozee is still there and it gives the crows a choice of Rozee or Hately - would GWS take the other or would that give us a hit at one of them.

The more I think about it maybe they won't. They still have McCartin, who it looks like they've been burnt by but would still hold out hope. They've also got Bruce and Membery. I'd say their Key Position defenders ruck and midfield would be of far greater concern. I'm not sure King is a monty for St Kilda at all.
