First of all let me say, i dont want to finish last. I would not enjoy winning a wooden spoon for the first time. BUT.. if this were to happen we would be looking at pick 4 which looks like being Andrew Gaff. Im not talking tanking either..i just dont think we are good enough nor are we confident to win many more games this year. We always struggle against North, saints, dogs and pies will beat us. Carlton i think will be up for beating us finally so the only game i see us winning is the Brisbane game but if Brown/Fev have a big night then who knows. I believe West Coast will win a few more home games and lift themselves off the bottom, the tiges are travelling nicely. The only other team that could finish last is Port who are just as terrible but have a new coach and are likely to snare a few wins at times.

The Gold Coast are likely to take Bennell at #1, Day or Darling at #2 and have taken Swallow at #3, so that leaves Andrew Gaff who has been mentioned as a quality midfielder..exactly what we need. So if it comes to pass that we do finish last..if we get over the shame and embarrassment of the wooden spoon, hit the pre-season hard, possibly with a new coach at the helm and put games into a young player like Gaff and start playing a larger midfield rotation.

Its not the best time to bottom out but if we can add a quality midfielder to the group of Watson, Melksham, Stanton, Zaharakis, Myers Winderlich, Colyer, Reimers Howlett and Prismall. Then we might be able to start our climb back up the table with continued improvement from our key talls at either end.

Just repeating..i dont want to finish last. But i think it might happen or at least 2nd last. So we need young players with the quality of Gaff, i really hope we dont trade the pick away.

Just trying to find any positives from a miserable season.

Cheers guys

Re: Andrew Gaff

We'd have to finish last to get Gaff, which is the only downside to getting him. I highly doubt he'd fall past 4. But ive heard good things about him, and would welcome him into our club

Actually know he, and his father; pretty well. His father still runs a few tennis points tournaments around Victoria so the family is certainly a sporting one. Andrew actually played at a very high level in tennis also, played Australian Ranking tournaments from under 10s till about under 14s but gave tennis up for the football obviously. He has terrific hand-eye coordination, so any sport he could just about do well at.

Hasn't got explosive speed or a thumping long kick, but is a very solid player who has quite a big endurance base. Can get forward and kick a few surprise goals also. Haven't really thought of him being a top 10 pick up until late last year, and still can't get my head around it; but he is certainly on a few people's radars. Good luck to him.

I hope that EFC get's two Andrew Gaffs' if the club is bold enough during the Trade period.
I can definitively tell you that this will not happen, as there is no such thing as a cloning device and I don't believe there is currently two of him.

I thought that ben jacobs was a half back flanker - running defender - In the vein of Myers.

God no, please no. We already have enough flankers, we need midfielders. I do not want to draft a player and then try to change his game to suit us, it has to be a ready made midfielder.

I will seek further information about Ben Jacobs.

I hope we go out there and try to get as many first-second rounders as we possibly can (Hawthorn 05 style) , would love 3-4 of Gaff, Caddy, Parker, Prestia, Smedts, Smith, Andreoli, Atley, May, Harper, and Jacobs. With the exception of Gaff, Parker, Smith and Atley they should all go in the 12-30 range. Thankfully I like the look of a lot of kids from this draft so unless we do something extremely surprising I should be pretty happy.
