Draft: Michael Hurley

Put all Hurley stuff in here.

Seems to be the overwhelming favourite for pick 5, and looks to be a good one.

If we don't want a midfielder straight up he's the choice, and with the gaping hole in the backline, he's the best fit, assuming one of Watts, Naita or Rich isn't somehow available.

He'd be my choice at the moment, but I'm fluctuating between the need for a midfielder and a backman.

Although I do like the look of him, I do think we still lack a star or two in the midfield and that's where we should focus on with our first pick. If the EFC staff rate him above the other midfielder's though I'd have no problem with us picking him up. Has lovely skills, good one-on-one & great overhead. :thumbsu:

His 20 meter sprint time was not as bad as some expected so if we wan't to go defender first then he is the player.
I am with GS. As much as i rate Hurely i think class in the midfield needs to be looked at first.

THE BOMBER BOARD IS BACK!

This is great news.

Personally I'd take Hurley with our pick five, arguably the best defender in the U18 competition for the last two years. There are plenty of talented midfielders that will still be around come our second selection.

Forget Hurley at 5.

Lets hope we get Pick 12 from Sydney for Lovett and he falls to there.

We have Pick 7 as our key defender in Ryder and to give up Pick 5 for another defender is not the smart thing to do.

5 and 7 in your defence just doesn't sound right.

Great post by the way...

Yep its really playing on my mind, pick 5 what to do.....

Have we ever had a real gun in the middle apart from Jim, I think Hurley but I need to trust the boys at EFC if there is a genuine gun mid perhaps we should go for them.

I know I have sore arse from my fence sitting I just cant decide!

Drafting Hurley could mean a whole raft of possibilities.

He could sure up FB for the next decade.
He could release Ryder into a more attacking role if Pears was to take over CHB. I do not want to see Ryder's talent wasted and feel he would be more damaging as an attacking weapon.

I am happy to use Pick 5 on Hurley.

I'm a big Hurley fan and I would love it if he was in the red and black. Like GS and ant said my worry is that we will potentially miss out on a star midfielder in Sidebottom, Ziebell, etc.

So much talent that we could take.

IF we got Sydney's first rounder would you more inclined to draft a midfielder first and a KP defender second or draft Hurley and look for the class midfielder pick 12?

Although he looks a talent, I hope we don't draft him with pick 5. I think we are short a real class midfielder and that is what we should focus on with our first pick.

If we take a midfielder with pick 5, is it likely that one of either hurley or trengrove will fall to pick twelve where we could possibly draft him...if we get that selection off sydney that is?

Trengrove could possibly slip. Hurley certainly will not. The argument to draft a class midfielder is compelling as the opportunity to snare one later in the draft is much more rare now. Also couple that with the line of thinking that we probably will not get such a high pick for a while, we may be wise to take a gun midfielder now. But if we were to snare Pick 12, I'd roll the dice and take Hurley at 5 and hope Yarran/Swift etc fall to 12 which is a definite possibility.

I hate talking about Pick 12 as I'll be shattered if we do not get it.

Yeah I'm tending to agree with you there. If we did get pick 12 though, I would be happier to do the reverse and take a mid with pick 5 and hope that tengrove slips.

I have tried, but I simply can't warm to the idea of taking a KP defender with such a high pick in such an important draft.

Hey. New to this ... But massive Bomber fan.

All this talk of havin pick 12 for Lovett ... That wont happen ... He is worth it (I think) But we wont get a 1st rounder for him ... 2nd definitely...

I would take Hurley ... Key defenders like him are rare ... Watson, McVeigh... and a heap of potentials... hislop, welsh, stanton, jetta, davey, monfries etc... can make up our mid-feild for now ....

Huley FB... Ryder CHB... Pears + Myers as CHBF.... great back line for the future...

!!!!!

Yeah I'd definitely try and make a hard press for that pick 12 for Sydney and run the Mid at 5 (Sidebottom) and KPP at 12 (Trengove). I just think today that Hurley's pace is a worry you don't want to have to worry about. Imagine if 3 years from now he just can't hack it and gets delisted because he can't catch anyone

i'm hoping we do get pick 12 but cannot see hurley or trengove lasting that long. ideally i'd be very happy to take hurley at 5 and then take a midfielder at 12 - one of hartlett, sidebottom, robinson, swift will be available as there are more quality mids in the top 20 then there are defenders.

I guess Sydney are the ones giving you guys pick 12 for Lovett when they could probably get Yarran / Blease or some other speedster in the draft?

I am confused as to how Hurley can be the premier key defender for the last 3 years, in the Under 16's and 18's, and lack pace for the AFL.

Surely the under 16's and under 18's competition must have pacy forwards.

The drafting equation depends on whether EFC has 2 first round picks.

IMO EFC can take a small risk if they have 2 first round draft picks.

I would go Hurley with Pick 5 ( Key Back ) and either Swift/Walters with Pick 12 ( midfielder.

I would risk Swift even though he hasn't played much in the last 2 years.

He lead the competition in disposals, clearances, hard ball gets etc in the under 16's.

His draft camp results show that he speed so he could become an inside and outside midfielder.

swifts test results are amazing for someone who hasn't played much sport in the last 2 years. not only did he test for speed but he was up there in the beep test showing endurance is their also.
