I read somewhere that Freo are looking to only use 3 picks in the national draft. Are there any uncontracted players that Freo might look into to pick in the PSD?

Pretty sure we're only using 3 picks in the National Draft Inferno because there's only 3 available places on the list? So to make a selection in the PSD we'd have to de-list Schammer (or sopmeone else) and pay him out to free up that 4th spot.

So the List is now:

1. Ballantyne
2. Morabito
3. Schammer
4. Ibbotson
5. Broughton
6. Suban
7. McPhee
8. Palmer
9. Fyfe
10. Crowley
11. Mundy
12. Houghton
13. McPharlin
14. Hinkley
15. Mayne
16. Roberton
17.
Bradley
18. Bollenhagen
19. Pavlich
20. Clarke
21. Sandilands
22. Hill
23. Hayden
24. Duffield
25. Johnson
26. Walters
27. Crichton
28. Faulks
29. Mzungu
30. Griffin
31. Barlow - rookie upgrade - Pick 72
32. DeBoer - rookie upgrade - Pick 89
33. Silvagni - rookie upgrade - Pick 106
34. van Berlo - rookie upgrade - Pick 123
35. Pick 20

36. Pick 43
37. Pick 55
38. Pick PSD or upgraded rookie??

Veterans List - Up to 2 Players
1. Grover
2. Rookie upgrade at beginning of season

Rookie List - 6 Players
1. Sibosado
2. Pearce
3. Shepheard
4. Rookie Selection
5. Rookie Selection
6. Rookie Selection

Do we have to upgrade our rookies via the main draft or can we do it via the pre-season draft?? Also do we need to use draft picks for the three guys we got in trade week - how does that work?

Through the main draft. It doesn't make a difference though, we'll use our three "live" picks then take Silvagni, Barlow, etc with the picks that we would have passed with any way.

No we don't.

The draft will be interesting - a couple of East fremantle boys who didnt make the State 18s look great- Menagola and Chalwell. Both about 193cm. Menagola Key forward, Chalwell Key Back, both had great WA combine results ( Menagola 15.5 beep and Chalwell 14.6, chalwell equalled National combine running leap at 88 cm) Both made colts team of the year and colts premiers ( Menagola kicked 4 goals in GF and Chalwell named best for the Sharks) Maybe not playing 18s means non WA clubs may be in the dark about them??

I like Chalwell in particular.

He played in the ruck in the Colts GF, but you're right, he can play KF or KB. Seems ideal as that modern day mobile big man.

Could be a roughy for our last pick. In my phantom I had us getting Zac Fitzgerald but Chalwell being local and all would come into play. Added to this WCE will have a pick before us in the rookie draft so that may come into the thinking too.

Scham i think he will be one of these late developers i feel he will get better with age.

i haven't read through all the drafting threads but i dont think he would've been mentioned.
apparently we are interested in callan eddy for the rookie draft, peel boy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkIkb1NYNnw a link showing chalwell in action looks good

Docker champ - very versitle, can play KB or KF maybe pinch hit in the ruck? Lots of upside to his game, hope we take him. W.A. combine results were outstanding.

You obviously rate him highly. Would pick 20 be out of the question in your opinion sharks attack?

Also, do you think Menegola will get drafted?

Scham I think Chalwell will go he has attracted a lot of interest. i hope we get him because i like what ive seen but think there is big improvement to come. I rate him above Monaco and Litherland, he also stitched up Jones when he rucked against him. Maybe not playing 18s means he will slip under the radar but a lot of scouts were at the WA combine where he stood out.
Menagola will go Im sure. His 15.5 beep test puts him out there. There was a ? over his contested marking ability but I think he dispelled this during the latter end of the season.
He has been interviewed by about 5 clubs but not playing18s (like chalwell) may go against him. Both great young men as well which is important now days.

Chalwell looks promising, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. He has been playing as an undersized ruckman in the colts. A world away from the role he would have to play in league, let alone the AFL. Kickett was exactly the same last year, and it obviously didn't go so well for him.

I do like Chalwell as a late pick, or more likely rookie pick. But as long as we still have Shepheard he may be excess to our needs.

Chalwell is a fantastic young bloke as well.
I can't speak highly enough about him & I have known him for 6 years.
Would love to see us pick him up.

I would prefer an inside mid at pick 20 - we have Pav, Johnson and Bradley as KPF with Sandi resting forward and Zac being developed in that role as well, Houghton in the wings and Shepheard as back up. No, we don't have another Pav, but there aren't many of them around and he has a few years yet. Also, he will spend more time in the forward line if we get an inside midfielder in the draft, and maybe prolong his career by a year or two or three. In the back line we have McPharlin, Roberton at 191 or 192 cm, Silvagni, Faulks, Sibo as a maybe and I think it could be worthwhile to look at Shepheard down there as well. Grover has a year left, but that's it I would guess. An inside mid is a far more pressing need to my mind if we want a flag in the next three years while Pav and Sandi are still at the top of their game.

I know many of the guys I've mentioned are prospects or still developing or unproven, but so will any KP we draft this year. An inside mid could be up and running in 2011 and definitely in our best 22 in 2012/13

I'm thinking along the same lines as you and leaning towards Luke Parker.
