Something i posted on the drafts and trading board that is being murdered by opposition supporters. What Do you guys think?

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Adam Cooney and rate him as one of the best players in the dogs team, as well as the competition, but in order to improve, the dogs may have to trade either Cooney or Brian Lake. Lake is also one of the best in the comp when fit and firing, but neither have played anywhere near their bedt football this year. This is because of a combination of injuries and bad management from the club. The doggies, in comparison to every other club, have a small amount of staff and put less emphasis on player and injury management which have contributed to these stars downfall.

The trade i would propose is similar to the judd-Kennedy trade, I propose we give GWS cooney (or lake), cross or higgins and Addison in Exchange for pick 3 or 5, a pre listed 17 year old and a young player or 50+ pick that the dogs can get a young player with.

In my opinion, this would be a great deal for both clubs, offering expirienced, hard bodied and talented footballers to Gws and the dogs Will get 3 quality young players to assist in their rebuild.

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

No.

Unless you can tell me what type of players the club should pick up with the draft picks and how you intend to replace Higgins and Cooney within our midfield then why bother?

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

Cooney himself is worth pick 5 and a pre listed 17y.o. Why are you adding Higgins and Addison for pick 50+?

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

Yes because trading a #1 draft pick who'd be a true senior player in our next premiership tilt would always be a good idea.

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

On one good knee?

remaining to be seen how he recovers.

I for one would be spewing if he manages to be a solid footballer at a new club despite the knee issues.

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

This year's draft is not a strong one, so it would be a huge gamble trading in a proven player/brownlow medalist, admittedly with a recurring knee problem for a couple of unknown kids who might never live up to their potential.

I would rather trade away players who have another couple of years, but no more for early draft picks, and rebuild around Cooney, Ward, Griffin, Jones, Roughead and co and get ready for a relaunch in a couple of years.

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

Let's float the idea of a trade for Cooney and see what his worth but, only if our rehab/med dept. are thorough with it's analysis on his knee and give us a recommendation. :thumbsu:

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

Other clubs know that we would only trade Cooney if we knew his knee was no good and unlikely to get better. In this scenario what do you think we could realistically get? I would rather keep him and try to get him right.

Re: theoretical cooney trade.

I think north should show some interest, but what is he worth. Top 5 pick, doubt it with his injuries. Would a offer of our first round plus hamish mcintosh be about right. Hudson looks about cooked, and Minson not up to it.
I think you boys could rebuild very quickly. think you need a new coach like it change the Geelong players and freshing them up.

Anything less than a top 5 pick and it would be waste of time. His best footy is still ahead of him, so really, any talk, of any trade would be ridiculous.

Same with Lake. Anything less then a 1st rounder would be a mis-match in trade terms.

Cooney and Lake are in top 5 players at the dogs, and arguably our most important 2. You can’t replace them and anyone that thinks that you can is obviously kidding themselves.

Ok one more game, then the other teams play in the finals, but I am more interested in the draft - so what have we heard, what do we want and what young player in the draft has caught your eye.

I like the look of young Will Hoskin-Elliott wonder if he will fall through to us - although Future Stars rates him as a top 10 pick and thinks he will go to GWS.

He has kicked another 3 to half time as well today.

In saying that, I am fairly sure he will re-sign with Port.

Jackson Trengove set a precedent for Port, it should have a major influence on Butcher's decision making.

I hope the club makes a play for him though, Cooney + picks?

He would be a great fit for us but I can't see him falling through. I like Liam Sumner and I think he's more of a chance at our pick. Maybe Kavanagh might fall through to our pick though as he has been injured a lot this year, he could've been a top 3 pick if he wasn't injured IMO.

Sumner should be around at our pick. Although, if we smash Freo, and Richmond lose, he might not be.

Would like to see us pick up Michael Talia, elevate Mathew Panos and rookie list Jack Frost. This would give us enough tall youth to cover all positions on the ground. I think we need to target a quick small fwd as well, someone who not only applies pressure but is dangerous around goals.

Let's get this guy, we need more injured players, can't get enough of them.... :p

I know where you are coming from, but between Higgins, Williams, Cordy, Cooney and Lake..... I just want someone who can kick and play for 22 - 26 weeks. Football ability a bonus....
