None are blessed with pace either.
Hynes at least plays with a little bit of burst and he does seem to have fans in clubland. But if we want that bigger body HF who may become a midfielder, wouldn't we either hope Bo Allen slips or take Hamish Davis?

If we're after a lighter bodied wing who covers ground, Will Hayes available late?

No chance Allan slides and I prefer him at HB until he is ready to go in the middle. I prefer Davis or even Clarke up forward over Hynes.
I like Hayes late aswell as a player I'm hoping to take as Carlton in a couple picks.

What does Dattoli offer as a forward pocket that we weren’t getting from Charlie Clarke?
He looked pretty similar to Weightman to my eye? Good aerially and on the lead, with a few tricks on the ground without being an out and out crumber?

Doesn't strike me as what we need, hopefully we have better available at our first pick.

Personally I don’t see him as being anywhere near as clever or quick-footed as Weightman.

Don’t think he applies much pressure either, which makes him effectively useless as a small forward in our system. If we’re drafting forwards, we need them with the view of replacing McNeil/Vandermeer, or for them to be damaging in bursts through the middle.

So either a quick pressure small/medium (Hannaford) or someone like Hotton/Davis.

I cannot see what Dattoli does for our side tbh

I agree generally speaking, but if we took him I think we would be see more as midfielder or maybe a half forward that's used at stoppages rather then a genuine small forward. He's quite good in close which isn't mentioned here. He's nuggety and strong in the contest, makes good decisions and has clean hands. He had 35 touches, 7 clearances late in the season which showed what he can do in the midfield.
I've sort of been on the fence with him as I haven't seen him play this role enough, but I would back in our recruiters as they would see him play school footy and such. Probably still leaning against as I'm not sure he and Sanders are the best fit in the midfield.

With pick 58 Fremantle selects
JOSH DOLAN

Position:
Small forward/midfielder

Size: 177cm

Clubs: Sandringham Dragons/Beaumaris

AFL player comparison: Dylan Moore

A high half-forward who could thrive in the modern AFL landscape. Dolan was a star for the Dragons this year, kicking 8.4 and averaging 19.8 disposals, 8.6 score involvements and 5.0 marks per game. He’s a strong runner and damaging by foot.

A throw at the stumps as one of best of the rest selections

This is fair. My concern is if we’re drafting him as a midfielder, he just seems like a straight downgrade on Sanders or even West. If we see him as a forward, he tends to play more like an old school lead and mark forward who relies on his size somewhat, but lacks pace and height to play that role at senior level. Almost like a far less powerful Jake Waterman.

To compare to recent drafts, Ben Sokol has gone entirely undrafted playing almost like an undersized KPF in the WAFL to a lot of success. Despite the obvious talent, he has never got his chance because clearly clubs can’t see a clear path to an AFL role.

i think I’ve spent more time watching Datolli than most other players in this draft, only because I am still trying to figure out why we’re being linked with him and what it is that I’m missing.

There’s better suited midfielder prospects, and better suited forward prospects imo

Pick 59 Carlton select Cody Angove
182cm wing/Fwd

Angove is raw and very much a pick on potential but so are all players selected at this stage. There is alot to work with however with a good combination of footy IQ, athletic ability and damage per possession. After a couple pre-seasons and some gym sessions he will hopefully be ready to make an impact at AFL level.

Again, generally don't disagree. But playing devils advocate here, I think he is a little bit different to Sanders and West in that he's a better ball user then those two and the one you want kicking inside 50 out of those. Also I think he could play a couple different roles which he has this season like on the wing and maybe even off half back.

If he was available at our 3rd pick I wouldn't be against it.

The more I watch him, the more I see Datolli as a little like Toby McLean but often less clean with gathering the ball.
I get why some like him, but I'm not sure he thrives in our system.

Pick 62 Carlton select Lucas Camporeale 183cm wing/half back.
Taking the Lucas with our last pick to get the Father son on our list. Whilst not the half back/wingman with speed I believe Carlton need he has got elite endurance and is capable of getting involved multiple times in each play off the back of it. I also feel he blends in nicely to the other players taken by Carlton in this phantom covering alot of the list needs in one off season.

Pick 4 - Sid Draper
Pick 40 - Noah Mraz
Pick 44 - Ben Camporeale
Pick 60- Cody Angove
Pick 62 - Lucas Camporeale

Dav1d you're up

West Coast select Riley Bice

Eagles take a mature aged option
Out of the Werribee VFL premiership side and he should slot straight into the team as the younger selections develop and provides some strong leadership qualities

Same posters could be given different clubs and run this 3 times then do a summary of them all at the end? Just a thought and maybe couldn't be ****ed (I couldn't!), but there is still a loooong time until the draft.
Yeah I was actually planning on doing that, at least for my selection because I wanted to explain my selections overall

Hoges64 selecting for Geelong
Pick 63, Geelong selects
Nathaniel Sulzberger
Nathaniel Sulzberger

Forward, Midfielder
Some sizzling performances in the second half of the year proved a timely reminder that Sulzberger has some serious talent.

Club Sandringham Dragons/North Hobart
State TAS
Height 187cm
DOB 06/05/06

Endurance
Power
Speed
X Factor

Originally hailing from Tasmania, Sulzberger has been boarding at Caulfield Grammar and playing for Sandringham in the Coates Talent League over the past two years. A strong-bodied inside midfielder or half-forward, he has had a bit of an up-and-down year. Playing for the Allies at the under-18 national championships, Sulzberger battled some foot soreness and was left a little disappointed by his performances after being flicked around in a variety of roles. He played as an inside midfielder in the Allies’ first game against South Australia and gathered 21 disposals (10 contested), four clearances and two score assists. However a quieter second game against Western Australia saw Sulzberger pushed out to an unfamiliar wing role for the third game against Vic Metro and he had limited opportunity in the final game against Vic Country. However, some late-season games with the Dragons caught the eye, including a 29-disposal, five-clearance and three-goal performance against the Western Jets in Wildcard Round. A former under-13 national high jump champion, Sulzberger was able to show his speed, power and endurance running at the tail end of the year. He also went back home to Hobart in July and played one senior match for North Hobart in the TSL seniors competition.
2024 Coates Talent League92 ranking points, 18.9 disposals, 3.6 marks, 3.4 inside-50s, 2.5 clearances, 6.1 score involvements, 2.5 tackles, 0.9 goals (10 games)
2024 National Champs 44 ranking points, 14 disposals, 2.5 marks, 3.3 inside-50s, 1.3 clearances, 2.8 score involvements, 1.0 tackles, 0 goals (4 games)

Would be a good late swing for us

Pick 64 - Rhys Unwin

It’s hard to tell what GC really even needs at this point but we’ve landed on a zippy small forward with good pace (2.88 sec 20m sprint) and good agility.

Seriously considered Joshua Murphy here instead but then realised (after much contemplation) I’d already taken him in the 50’s wearing my Sydney hat …. soooo ….
