I’m a bit surprised that Rahul Dravid escaped with a fine when he was caught by TV cameras rubbing a cough lozenge into the match ball. I’m a fan of Dravid (though I was more so this time yesterday), but it really is blatant cheating. How on earth can he not be suspended?

he rubbed in a throat lozenger??? what an idiot...surely there has to be an investigation if this is true, not just a fine, Atherton got the book thrown at him when he was caught rubbing dirt into the ball 10 years ago or so....bloody cheats!!!!

Yet another SOFT decision by Clive Lloyd. This is the man who let Rahid Latif off for racial abuse due to "lack of evidence".

The fact Ganguly was still swinging the ball in the 25th over shows Dravid's CHEATING had a major effect on the ball and the match as a result.

You'd be mad not to cheat like this for the big games if all it means is a slap on the wrist.

2-3 game suspension would have been an adequate penalty.

My Mum gave me the lolly......:D

Answers some questions about how the Indians were swinging the ball in the tests when the Aussies couldn't.

I totally agree.

Lehmann gets suspended for weeks last year for one provoked slip of the tongue in the heat of the moment, and now Dravid only gets a fine for this premeditated, calculated action. These guys KNOW they're not supposed to be tampering with the ball like that and the current penalties won't deter them.

How low can the Indians go?

Ganguly's the biggest tosser the world's ever seen, Anil Kumble appeals for LBW every second ball whether it hits the pads or not, and now Rahul Dravid cheats and expects to get away with it.

Friggin hell.

BTW, I have nothing bad to say about Tendulkar and Parthiv Patel. Nothing but praise for them.

Tendulkar got a fine and a one match suspended sentence for ball tampering.

Was part of the SA tour a couple of years back when the Indians played an unofficial test because they refused to play under the MR any more.

Shivlal Yadav (Offie from the 80's and current team manager) said that Dravid was innocent and it was inadventant. As soon as he felt something hard on the ball he stopped.

And I'm going to open up in the next ODI.

Cheating of the highest order and they get away with it. The ICC are too soft (picking the seam is the least cheating). Bottletops, scratching and this is getting serious.

Dravid is a cheat and a disgrace to cricket. I hope the Australian press get stuck into them. Note that Tendulkar has been done for ball tampering too (and the indian's reacted by refusing to play under the match referee!!) it's not one off and until they get punished they will continue to cheat.

I also like the fact that after being bowled Yujrav asked the ump why he was out. Didn't it hit enough stumps? It was obvious from the Zimmers reaction that he had been bowled.

A fine seems a perfectly fair and acceptable penalty to me; particularly if its his first offence.

Not when you compare it Lehmanns penalty last year for his racist remark and Sehwags 1 match suspension (for excessive appealing if you dont mind !!!!) in the same game as Tendulkar got his suspension. Maybe Clives worried that the Indians will refuse to play with him as match referee as well ????

To me it just shows how either stupid or arrogant he must be... most other players would suck on the lozenge, lick their fingers and then work on the ball. Wouldn't be noticed, would have a similar effect.

It's ICC politics - everyone knows all hell will break loose if the sub-continental teams don't get what they want.

Dravid should've got the same as Tendulkar (75% plus a suspended one games ban) and Lehmann should've got less but Latif had to get the same once it was done.

I've got no problems with the penalty, especially since it was his first offence.

Just a question about what happened. Has anyone ever had a mintie or chewing gum accidently stuck to the ball when they were trying to shine it?

Apples and oranges.

Oh get off Dravid's back, he's been chased by reporters as if he's just killed someone, if anyone deserves this kinda treatment it should be that bloody bouncer.

He tampered the ball, the ball swung a mile, so what? Zimbabwe probably would've still lost or something (though they got close), so it probably makes no difference to the result :)

Dravid's one of the nicest and more polite international cricketer in the world, I guess it's his first offence, maybe could've got all his match fee taken from him, but definitely didn't deserve to be suspended.

Some other sides are even worse, Sri Lankans are still scratching the ball, England's doing the same thing, eating lollies and shining the ball with sugar and stuff.

who really gives a rat's if Dravid rubbed a lolly on the ball for 2 seconds??, It aint gonna make that much difference and he got fined neway, a suspension for that?, thats insane...ppl should just stop whinging instead of crying over pedantic things like that....those cheating Indians...always trying to pull one over us aussies...how dare they...:D

So why all the fuss about Chucking. Hell Murali does it so everyone else should? Don't penalise people and they continue to do it.

A frieid of mine played club cricket with a Kent and English batsman. He was showing the club cricketers how the ball really swings with lollies rubbed on the ball at about the 25 over mark. He was told how to do it by an Indian playing for Kent!

Don't give me this innocent rubbish. He knew full well he was cheating and what he was doing.

Time to get harsh on these discraceful sportsmen. BTW gloss over this and all grade cricketers will think it's OK to cheat like this.

If you did this in other sports you would be disqualified, disgraced and banned.

Dravid is a deliberate cheat.

i'd say he does it all the time, along with the rest of the team most probably. Seems like a tactic, though this time he accidentally had some lolly come out instead of the heavily concentrated spit, and was caught as well.

Ricky Ponting basically implied that Dravid was cheating. Went on to say how Australian cricketers would never be caught doing something like that.
