I thought i'd add a place for opposition or West Coast supporters to ask their DT questions so things don't get clogged up.

The comp opens on Feb 1, so expect an influx of questions soon.

For a start i'll list a bit about a couple of players to consider and mull over.

Good Prospect

Cox - What more needs to be said, he's a dead set gun and doesn't really show any signs of slowing down this year. There might be some other younger rucks looking like better prospects considering Cox's massive price, but he won't let you down - could be a good unique pick.

Priddis - Mr Consistent, he just racks the ball up each week and spends a lot of time on the ground, gets to every contest and loves to tackle. Another chance to step up again this year.

Le Cras - Talk of midfield time is always enticing when it comes to DT. This generally means the chance for more possession, but should continue spending proportions on the match in the fwd line where he'll continue to get a few goals. Definitely one to look at.

Kennedy - Can he stand up and walk alongside the other big forward such as Rewoildt, Franklin and Cloke as DT guns? He's a risk, but in a developing team and coming into his prime he has the potential to really crank up his scoring.

Shuey - Great skills and an ever improving tank, will be used a lot in the middle with stints on the fwd flank, very attacking player who will bob up with a goal each week. Is probably a better prospect for SC given his hard ball gets.

Hurn - as the mid-sized defenders around him improve, this means that Hurn will be encouraged to play a more attacking game and run off his man to accumulate possession. There is no better user of the ball by foot (he also kicks 3x as much as he handballs), an improved tank will mean he'll be able to get to more contests for an increase in possessions.

Stevens - Been talked up all year and has been having a great preseason, injury free and a lot of comparison has been made between he and Shuey with their early careers runs with injury. IF he can produce what Shuey did last year he'll be the pick up of the season.

Likely Types

Rosa - Had an injury that hurt his 2011 season after getting off to a great start, monitor his recovery over the pre-season, but he's an accumulator who doesn't get too much attention from the opposition so will rack up the marks. Will benefit from an improved midfield around him as well.

Kerr - We know what he can do, we also know he can get injured and he's getting on a little bit. A great SC player given the way he plays, is always undervalued given his injuries, but if he gets a full season together he could be a great unique pick.

S. Selwood - Another who is probably more SC suited, given his hard ball gets etc. He almost broke the record for regular season tackles last year and given they are each worth 4 points, he racks up the point. Expected continual improvement means he's one to watch.

Gaff - Loves running all day and will definitely get touches, 2nd year so not expected to set the world on fire, but given he was sub a lot last year his price is lower than he can output. One to consider, considering his relative price.

Nic Nat - Can do anything, another pre-season and hopefully an injury-free season will see him improve his scoring output. Rucks are an interesting one this year and he definitely should be looked at. SC might be a better option.

Be Wary

Players like Waters, Butler, Embley and Lynch all have a great scoring ability, however injuries and age lead you to be cautious when selecting these guys.

Masten - Every year he gets pumped up, he is a great trainer but injuries have hurt his ability to generate consistent scoring. Each year he's shown what he is capable of, is very cheap and could be the best or the worst pick of the season - you've been warned.

Rookies

Newman - One of the likely lads to get a gig at West Coast, might rely on injury to get a game, likely to play in a forward role which can often jag the young players some nice points.

Others are hard to judge at this stage, an analysis through NAB Cup and injuries will give a better indication.

thread needs more Dick

seriously, can see him loving the wide open spaces - any word on his preseason?

Still recovering from his knee reco, don't expect much from his this season

Can someone update on Brad Sheppard and his prospects for this year from an SC perspective?

At this stage, Sheppard will struggle to get a game in 2012. Previously, he's been used across HB and he's a fair way down the pecking order ATM. I'd say he's behind Hurn, Schofield, Butler, Waters, Smith, A. Selwood and McGinnity for a non-KPD role. That said, if we suffer injuries and Sheppard dominates the WAFL, he might get an opportunity, but he's no certain starter.

With Embley copping an injury blow likely to keep him out for the start of the season it presents a real opportunity for Stevens to get a game, and not as the sub.

Also this talk of Glass is ridiculous, if you want a cheap backman get Lake, Clarke, Ellis (rich), or Brown (adel)
The Falcon Strike finished around the top 100 mark in DT last year (or might have been the year before?), so he is clearly being sarcastic.

On that TFS, are you considering Gaff this year? 322k in an awkward price, but his ceiling is huge. Rockliff showed the 2nd year rule isn't always something to follow. Or is is better to save the coin and go with Stevens?

Rockcliff led the brisbane midfield last year - with help from Redden and tutelage from Black, but he was in the middle all game racking it up.

With Gaff being down the pecking order he won't have the same impact as Rockcliff i don't think. Will rack it up for sure, but I think he has the ability to go missing in patches which is not what you want from a midfielder - especially at his price.

Every mid needs to be averaging 100+ by season's end really, i don't see Gaff doing that. Best bet is he gets close to 90 and bangs out some big games in a row and you could side-trade him to a Penders/Swan etc.

Stevens definitely worth a look, especially with Embers' injury.

Rockliff also racked up a lot of marks which helped his game and marking I don't feel is one of Gaff's strong points

As of Embleys injury i've now made room in my midfield for Gaff. Would have to be 100k improvement there but could also turn into a 100point average keeper given a good run.

So my first draft team has him yes.

Tackling - that's what give Rockliff that extra 10-20 points over others, he averages 5 tackles a game to Gaff's 1.

Even in his first year Rockliff was over 3 tackles a game.
