Like Keystone I like Smedts too, wanted us to grab him actually. I'll be looking out for him in the NAB. Any thoughts on him Narkee?

I hate Beau Watters (its not me Beau, its you) but he's hard to overlook again, the prick.

I agree, Beau Waters shits me too. He never scores well enough to be a premium, but he scores well enough that he's usually not the weakest link in your team. He's the kind of player that hangs around your team all season stinking the place up, but always manages to avoid the axe.

For me Beau Waters is still pretty expensive, 340k~ comes with a heap of injury/durability concerns and didnt exactly score that well last year anyway. I also dont think he has a locked position in the eagles side for a number of reasons. Eagles have a really strong side/list. Plenty of HBF types who dont get a game who are good players Sheppard is an example. Last year they played a side that involved 3 smalls (A.Selwood, Butler, Hurn) and 3 talls (Mckenzie, Schofield and Glass) mostly last year. Im not sure which spot Waters takes, however he does offer something different to the others. Its also well known that he isnt a great kick and turns the footy over multiple times, this can leave you out of the team pretty easily. Sheppard, Ash Smith and other young guys coming through pressuring his spot.

I wont be picking him at that price.

Bower seems like he quickly fell off the radar than. Carlton supporters not long ago were rating him very highly and i sort of read a bit into and saw that he could be a decent 3rd tall defender. Unfortunately he has always been made to fight above his weight range more as a CHB and has been found wanting on to many occasions.

They never gave him much of a go once, Henderson went back and was solid which i think is when he would be at his best sitting 3rd in line behind Jamo and Henderson as tall backs.
Bower was overtaken by likes of Laidler and Duigan who came out of nowhere.

Last I heard they were going to reinvent him as a running winger (may not be a bad thing) but he'll have to battle a host of others for a spot there.

Our list is just so much stronger now, even if he does get games he'll carry a high sub risk, only silver lining there is 4 of our first 5 games are thursday or Fridays so we'd know if he's the sub before lockout.

Wilkes was delistEd by the eagles at the end of the 2010 season? He's been picked up by the saints and will be a lock for round one you would think?

Yep is a lock to be playing round 1. Think Tom Simpkin will still be given first crack at holding down FB but Wilkes will play as that Jarred Waite swingman role...

agree with the concerns over durability/injury/suspension but he is one of wooshas first picked. he is the inforcer of that backline and has enormous courage. does burn the ball on occasion however when you have glass and mckenzine who cant kick for shit and hurn gets the tag, he more than often gets the cheapy on the side with butler. imo could ave 85/90 but will get 130 0ne week and 50 the next.

There are some good mid-pricers in there. Grimes, Burgoyne, Lake, Malceski to name a few.. I think the most interesting ones are Adam Selwood (324k) and Connors (224k).. Both had 2010 averages of over 90. Does anyone think these two can re-capture that? Is Connors even best 22 anymore?

Connors is an interesting one for mine. Didn't he get pushed out of the side by deledio playing half back? So if lids is going to play permanent mids, maybe Connors will be back? Definitely worth watching through the NAB cup

I'm not sure if he's back training yet.
He went on 'personal leave' late November and hasn't been noticeable since.

Also a bit worried that in the trade and draft period, they acquired Morris (apparently a ready made small defender) and Ellis (an aggressive attacking defender). Compile that with getting Batchelor last year (another well skilled rebounding defender).
I'm assuming Rance, Batchelor, Ellis are pretty much locked into the Richmond back line. McGuane, Astbury, Grimes and Moore (to a lesser extent) will juggle two tall defender spots between them (I'm counting Rance as a mid sized defender).
That leaves the last spot between Deledio (if he fails through the midfield which he has in the past, he may need to get back there), Connors and Morris fighting for the last spot in the back line.
I'm unsure Connors is dedicated enough to take that last spot and keep it. He is yet to complete more than 14 games in an AFL season and he's coming off a delayed pre-season. I'd prefer to take my chances on Morris or Ellis.

Newman?

I would think 2 of Ellis, Morris and Connors play week in week out. Rance is a lock along with Newman that makes 4. Than their best two talls Astbury is one of them for me because of his ability to play at CHB better than the others and having that extra size and Grimes showed enough last year and will only get better he is a similar type to Rance.

They are also looking at Griffiths i think it is down back, will be interesting to see how he goes (Not DT wise). But hes a big unit.

EDIT: They also have Houli. Who you would think is a lock after coming 4th in the B&F he may move up onto a wing though so his elite fitness can show out or Ellis may become apart of midfield rotations from the bench.

You forgot to mention Post and Grimes.

Grimes was playing until injured in the dream time game.

Post will be given CHB before Astbury.

Mentioned Grimes apart of the back 6 mate.

Post ahead of Astbury thats interesting, i guess you know more than me about richmond and the way Astbury is recovering from injury. Maybe he can go forward?

Any thoughts on Adam Selwood and possible return to a midfield role? Has proven durability and scoring ability when playing there.

You wouldnt think so. With the loss of Wirra they needed to find a replacement first is was his brother Scott Selwood holding down that small back pocket role than he developed into a midfielder became the better tagger of the 2 in the guts last year forcing Adam to play in defense. Eagles continue to add depth and youth to the midfield so i cant see him getting back in there unless Kerr and another gun mid gets injured.

Kerr, Priddis, Shuey, S.Selwood, Gaff, Rosa, Emlbey, Swift usually hold down the midfield positions pretty well at west coast and most are young or out and out champs. I probably missed someone aswell.

Edit: Plus Koby Stevens and Masten

Astbury's still recovering from injury and Post has had a good pre-season. He'll be given games.

sante made a good post on the richmond board about houli getting tagged every week with newman and lids in the midfield but hopefully he's fitness will combat it :thumbsu:

I'm definately keeping an eye on him. He has shown that he plays better when there's less responsibilty on him and I think with the new guys getting better the focus will be on them more.

He has shown that he can score well and even though he has had a lean couple of years I just have a feeling he could get back to some old form.

I think his JS is solid, he did finish top 4 in the B&F in 2006 - 2008 and he's not that old. Woosha loves him as he's fearless and sets a high standard for the other blokes.

I wouldn't be dismissing him just yet.

Disagree. He may still provide a hell of a lot to the side but he will not play in the midfield. Priddis, Kerr, S. Selwood, Shuey, Rosa, Gaff, Masten, Stevens, Swift, Sheppard will all play midfield before he does.

I wouldn't be putting money on Adam Selwood. He'll stop an opponent but don't expect him to win much footy.

No doubt if he plays midfield he will avg 85-90. But his new back line role which he played last year saw him hover around 65, i like many west coast fans dont see him changing role. It doesnt appear that he will do anything more than what he did last year.

whats peoples thoughtsa on hargrave? looks to be a bargain possibly!! risky though although probably not that huge a risk at his price
