Don't think theres anything wrong with giving kids say an apple or something else healthy if they don't want their dinner... I understand not cooking seperate meals, but they still should have something..yeah I get they are kids, but they are allowed to not like food and have preferences. If adults don't like something, they don't make it..kids don't get that choice.

That's right.

That's why we are parents and not children.

If you are hungry, you will eat what is put in front of you.

If my parents knew they were having something any of us didn't like they would generally cook extra the night before and we could reheat that if we wanted.

either that or we got toast or something.

It was pretty rare though, I was easy going and would eat almost anything, but for stuff like Corned beef which I can't stand, I would never eat it.

Our family lives on a budget and my wife is pretty good at shopping and pre planning meals.

If kids miss out on a meal because they are being belligerent, they aren't going to starve.

They will eat tomorrow.

What if you served chips and nuggets and they wanted vegetables?
If you live in my house, you live by my rules. Now boy, butter up that bacon.

Yeah, I'm not going to make my kids eat food they obviously don't like. I mean, tonight we had Indian, got some mild dishes. They tried a bit but it just didn't take that much. In that case, happy to offer up some fruit.

I assume you have a degree in medicine or the sorts?

Plenty of people with a lack of discipline blaming other people for their shortcomings as well.

Oh, so a parent using drugs in front of their kids, or smoking in front of them (and the kid getting second-hand smoke) is not as bad as having Maccas once a week, in your opinion?

I would also say that having parents divorce also has a bigger effect on children than fast-food does.

There's a five-year-old in my son's kindy class who is morbidly obese. At five years old. Certainly can't run, struggles to walk properly. He's proper ****ed if they don't turn things around. A lifetime of shit outcomes, no ifs or buts.

So do you think then that fat kids deserve to get picked on at school?

I was chubby when I was a kid, and was picked on because of it. Now, i could have lost weight. Or maybe those kids should have just shut their damn mouths.

I would say that bullying and teasing is worse behaviour than being fat. But we live in a society where beauty and being fit makes you better than other people somehow, so people judge others on how they look, and society has been conditioned by media and the fitness industry that being overweight is "ugly".

Why does it matter to anyone else what you weight? Why is it so important to other people? Could it be because people feel better about themselves by finding faults in others, whether it be looks, intellect etc.

If kids bully, it is learned behaviour, because their parents don't accept people for who they are. I think that is a bigger problem than a child not having the perfect weight. That sort of stuff leads to anorexia in young girls.

I 100% agree with you

It doesn't change the fact that being obese is incredibly unhealthy though, but health is never the reason fat people are shamed which shows the shallow nature of society. Like I said earlier, skinny people can shove their face with junk and everyone says "its fine they are skinny" and then they probably go and shame a fat person for eating badly even though they probably eat worse and are possibly even less healthy.

What's morbidly obese though?

You see, there is a deception being put across by the fitness and weightloss industry.

I remember when I was a kid, that weighing between 70-75 kgs was normal for an adult, if considered a bit thin. But now, 70-75 kgs actually is classified as "obese".

That is why obesity has gone up. Because the fitness industry dropped the bar of what being overweight is, and made people who weren't overweight thirty years ago now obese when they weight the same, so that they can con people into buying their products. It's a sham.

Health and life-expectancy have nothing to do with what you put in your body.

Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones has lived a hard-partying life, where he claims to have smoked like a chimney and drank gallons of alcohol, and used a lot of drugs. Yet he is still alive after all these years, and I dare say, that if a nuclear war happened, he would be the only one still alive to look after the cockroaches.

Yet my brother did all the right things. He was a good weight, and obsessed about his weight, he never smoked, took drugs and drank occassionally. He didn't overeat or anything like that, yet he died of cancer at 42, two years ago, yet he did all the things you were supposed to.

So, you see, it doesn't matter what you do. Kay sera sera. It's no good being healthy if you get hit by a truck crossing the road. All being fit does is delay the inevitable.

Find where I said bullying was ok. Of course it's not ok. But neither it is ok for a parent to be so negligent that their child suffers lifelong health problems. Fortunately it's not my place to intervene, but fortunately there are doctors and teachers whose place it is.

This is objectively wrong. People aren't overweight because the fitness industry changed the definition. It is verifiable fact that people on average are getting bigger. As for the boy I'm talking about, morbidly obese and everything that suggests, not chubby, having difficulty participating in all the normal things children do. I'm not shaming him, his parents have dropped the ball and he will be the one that suffers for it. It's sad more than anything.

I think being a murderer is worse than being an armed robber but I’m not going to encourage my kid to be either.

You don’t have to pick a vice and let your kid have it, amazingly it’s possible to raise a child who doesn’t smoke, do drugs or eat shitty food, frankly I’d suggest the food options are the easiest to influence.

But the whole health food thing is BS.

Do you know that the health industry (e.g. fitness, gyms, health food etc) is a multi-billion dollar industry, which pushes its cause by guilting people into losing weight, not so that they are healthier, but because the rest of us want to see only attractive people?

Nutritionists don't even agree. Some say that you can eat anything in moderation. Others say that McDonald's and other fast foods are the spawn of the Devil and must never be eaten , like it is poison or something.

A lot of these fitness people are full of it. They love dieting and exercising, so it is no effort for them. They aren't giving anything up. But then they get on their high horse and tell the rest of us how to live.

I am an overweight man, and I eat what I want, yet have never been sick in hospital, yet I know plenty of people who are thinner, and get sick all the time. So much for eating right.

I would rather eat, drink and be merry, than live twenty years longer watching every calorie.

lol Fatty McFatface

What are people's thoughts on primary school lunches? Say a kid had a packet of chips, a roll up or le snak, a Prima and a sandwich pretty much every day - ok or not?

Not okay, but not hangable offense either.

Substitute the roll up for an actual bit of fruit, make sure the sandwich isn’t plain white bread and has some salad and shit on there and it’s fine.

I consider smoking, drug taking, and a whole bunch of other things as much worse for kids than having too much Maccas.

There is too much fat-shaming going on these days.
There’s not enough you mean. I’m not talking about bullying people but we as a society need to be caring for each other. Not saying it’s alright to be obese. The BMI doesn’t do much for me but when a large proportion of our country is overweight, we need to be telling each other that being fat is unacceptable!
