I would love him at Essendon but I don't think we could offer anything that could actually land the deal.

I think our best offer could be
Pick 22 (we get from WB for Crameri) + Gumbleton.

We offer Martin three year deal 550K a year.

I don't think Richmond would accept that.

A prediction.

If he leaves, BF will say Richmond offered him unders and was too cheap to retain a potentially great player.

If he stays, then nobody else wanted him because of his 'off field activities' (while will be referred to with much innuendo and no facts) and Richmond was left with a damaged and unwanted good ordinary player.
If he leaves, **** him. Richmond will have done the right thing by their players and supporters.

If he stays it means that no one else in the comp is willing to put their money on the table, and that Martin has probably accepted less than initially offered.

Either way, I think that the whole process with Martin is somewhat disturbing for him. Massive potential in the player, but no one wants a bar of him. Interesting.

I don't think Dusty would accept it. Seems 600K is his magic number.

As for Richmond, not sure what we'd do with Gumbleton except use him as depth in the VFL, which in trade terms means he's worth very little to us. Indeed, with a queue of KPF in the 2's already, he might even be a bit of a negative (Not saying he's not a good player, just very much NOT what we need).

Nobody is interested at that price. Sure, many things go into what people are willing to pay, but as was said before, if he was shopping himself for what Richmond was offering, there would probably be a fair bit of interest...Which suggests we got his price right.

Aaaand he has signed.

No other club interested in a total nutjob = Richmond making a statement and redefining the club culture.

At least this is what their supporters now think.

Looks like Connors was there to break the good news. Lucky guy.

How did we not make a statement you bloody spud? ... We called his bluff, and were more then willing to let one of the brightest young stars in the game go to keep our pay structure in order. God you essendon supporters are the most delusional on this forum by a mile.

What did he sign for?

According to reports less than we originally offered, though I'd imagine it was the same offer. No point pissing him off. Afterall he's a Tiger and we want him playing good footy and don't need him loathing the club for docking his pay.

This is believable, bold statements about the football club winning the battle and changing the culture however are not. At the end of day not much has changed from Martin's end, I doubt he has learnt any life lessons from the whole experience.

I am surprised that clubs wouldn't take a chance on Martin. Improve his off-field preparation and he can be a genuine, elite AFL player. And he finished 2nd in the B and F.

By changing the culture I think people mean in the past players have always asked for overs and got it because the club was afraid to lose decent players. So by staying strong on the offer and not bowing to his demands, the other players will hopefully realise that this is how the club will deal with negotiations.
