Test (Early) Sri Lanka tour squad predictions

You're kidding right?

I'd be utterly amazed if CA think he's their next Test Captain when he's not even in the side, let alone hasn't scored enough runs to even be CONSIDERED as a permanent fixture in the XI

I've seen some leaps of faith on here, but man that's a huge one.

It's just a wait and see isn't it with who succeeds Cummins. He ain't going anywhere for a few years and Smith will step in when he isn't and Head probably steps in if they are both oitm

8 of the current 11 will probably be retired when Cummins goes so a pretty good chance the next captain isn't in the team right now.

Green is the one who will be most experienced and in the best age bracket when that time comes but I'm not sure he has ever done leadership roles before so who knows if that's his go.

I love Cam you won't see a bigger fan, well a few WA fans maybe, BUT how much load do we need to put on an all rounder? Batting in the top 4, a critical fielder in a key position, and bowling. I'd lean towards a bat doing it post Cummins who that is not sure. McSweeney has captained domestically

Under no planet am I playing Haze unless he has played 3-4 FC games
He was net bowling during last Test. Expect he will put up his hand to play at least two shield games.
Chuckle. You think Haze makes his own fitness calls. Hello, he is following his docs prognosis.
If fit he is in our WTC attack. Has a good Lords record.

Runs in any format has some sort of currency.

It still shows potential.
We've got to get some of these kids in and give them a taste.
Even if he doesn't play, it's good experience for them.
No one is saying he doesn’t have potential but I think it’s important still to earn a spot in the team with runs. If he is just a squad member than so be it.

Love to know when Maxwell had the opportunity to play shield cricket for Victoria. The games clashed with Australian white ball games.Remember when there was a Australia A team in England a couple of years ago and to help with the selection for the upcoming ashes series the AustA team played against the Australian team.About 24 players selected between the 2 teams and Maxwell not amongst the list.He was there and some said not selected because of a couple of reckless shots in white ball cricket the week before in the World Cup.
Voice I agree with your points and he has been burnt in the past with white ball causing him to miss red ball cricket

But he has had over 15 years of playing cricket you can’t argue that he hasn’t been given the opportunity to play shield games in that time

Even this season he could of played a shield game for Victoria boy was playing 2nd eleven/ grade instead

I was replying to madjoe who asked about his potential.

Don't know why people are (not you) are getting their knickers in a twist over his selection TBH.

We need to get Konstas, McSenney and the Connolly's in and see if they're good enough.

Great opportunity for Connolly to spend some time on tour with the Test squad. Will only miss the end of the Big Bash (Scorchers looking unlikely to make finals so no dramas there) and one Shield match so there's far more benefit for him being on tour.

Unlikely that Webster turns into Funky Miller in Sri Lanka - has hardly bowled his offies over the last couple of seasons and averages nearly 50 as a spinner. If we're getting to that point we're in trouble

Net bowling yeah okay…not the first time the bloke has called himself “fit”. He has left us short over and over again. Was never fit the whole summer and don’t care how good his record is all he’s shown lately is how to break down then bowl a few rolly Polly’s in the nets and say he’s fit and proceed to break down.

Can play 3-4 FC games and then he can come back least Boland won’t leave us short and the drop off if any isn’t much

Good squad. It’s great seeing younger players like Konstas, McSweeney, Connolly and Murphy included.
They should all be playing imo. Why take them over if all they’re doing is missing shield games anyway? Especially for the likes of Konstas and Connelly who have barely played any to begin with

I too would like to see Travis Head be the first man in history to be selected twice in the same test team

What can I say, I like Head.

**** sake!

1. Konstas
2. Head
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. McSweeney***
6. Webster
7. Carey
8. Connolly
9. Starc
10. Lyon
11. Murphy

It's always a nice surprise to see Abbotts name pop up...as I nearly always forget about him.

I mean, he must feel very fortunate being around this Aussie team, to have a support network to continually lean on in hard times.
Also hats off to the selectors, their empathy and compassion is unmatched. long may the tradition continue...

I think it is reasonable to overlook Marsh, Maxwell and Handscomb on age. And with the WTC final spot already booked giving Connolly, McSweeney etc a shot is fair enough.

Bowling should end up being seamer + Lyon and Murphy, and then the last spot is 2nd seamer or Kuhnemann

Then don't open Head I'm more than fine with that as well. Head will have to bowl heaps anyway so keeping him at 5 is perfectly ok
If the theory is correct that Konstas deliberately played more aggressive to counter Bumrah, it could be worth him opening with Head and telling him to bat more conservatively. Ussie out or in later in the innings when the spinners are on

Agree similar thoughts I’d have Kuhermann on structure over Murphy but they probably all play. Don’t love it though that’s 8 out all out none of those three are lasting long with the bat

Connolly is an odd one, he hasn't made that many runs in the Shield, certainly nowhere near Konstas has. Happy for him even though he'll just be carrying the Gatorade.
Abbott over Richardson is strange but neither will be playing barring injuries
Abbott probably has more durability then Jhye atm.

Like the poor bloke injured his shoulder celebrating this year after a wicket.
