East Side Hawks 17.5 (107) lost to Mt Buller Demons 23.9 (147)

Recap by SM:

The Hawks headed into this game with a 1 and 2 record, sitting precariously on the edge of the top 8. manangatang's Demons were two spots above them on the ladder, with a positive 2 and 1 record. The game promised to be a tight one as the Hawks sought to not only close the gap on the sides above them, but also claw back some percentage points.

Agent93 made a number of changes for this game to shake things up, with Drunken Wookie being moved to the forward line after a less than productive start to the season, and por_please_ya was thrown on a wing opposite SM, who lined up for his 200th game in the SFA.

It was not the start the Hawks could have hoped for with the Demons having the first six scoring shots of the match before NaturalDisaster got on the board for the Hawks midway through the first quarter. This started a run of momentum for the Hawks, snatching the next four goals to draw within one point. That was as good as it got though as the Demons mounted a 42 point lead at half-time, with the Hawks having only managed to add one further goal from that initial spurt.

The final siren would sound on a 40 point win for the Demons in a disappointing celebration of SM’s SFA career to date. The winger managed 24 touches in his milestone game to be one of the standouts for the Hawks, while go you pups was a surprise packet managing 5 goals to NaturalDisaster’s 4. Drunkgoliath was a menace with 9 tackles for his side, but a lack of quality around the park against the future Grand Finallists meant the Hawks were left to rue a slow start.

Editor Note: Milestone games are magnets for rubbish results. This was also the first game The Jesus had ever played against the Hawks.

YOTC Plate

The YOTC plate is named for legendary Hawk forward YOTC, who holds the leading goals per game average for the club. It is awarded to the leading goal scorer for the club of the season. Fittingly as it is the most obvious award we'll get it done first up instead a poor attempt at building suspense over the rest of the season recap.

The winner of the YOTC plate for season 29 is TY24 with 46 goals.

As an interesting tid-bit, as far as my research goes TY24 is the only winner of this award to have played a game starting in the back pocket in the same season.
We’re only just getting started baby.

Thank you to all of my fantastic team mates for continually spoonfeeding me the qooty on a silver platter. Couldn’t do it without you.

East Side Hawks 14.12 (96) defeated Baghdad Bombers 9.12 (66)

Recap by TY24:

In Round 5, the Hawks and Bombers resumed hostilities at Waverley Park. The Bombers entered this game as clear favourites, undefeated in their last 3 fixtures with 2 wins and a draw. The Hawks on the other hand were looking to break a run of 2 straight losses and elevate themselves out of the bottom 4.

Picking up where they’d left off in weeks prior, the Bombers flew out of the gates with Riviat putting a goal on the board just 55 seconds into proceedings. They then added a second after almost 9 minutes of tough, congested qooty through cammo6556. In what was becoming a bit of an arm wrestle, the Hawks wouldn’t reply for almost 10 minutes until NaturalDisaster was able to steer through their two majors, with the two teams entering the quarter time huddle at 2.1.13 a piece.

The second quarter was an onslaught early for the Hawks, who could’ve put the game to bed by half time if not for their inaccuracy. Golumless, NaturalDisaster, and SM all added majors in a quarter where the Hawks shanked 7 behinds. A late goal from mochacinolatte added the Bombers only major of the quarter, which saw the Hawks leading at the main break 5.8.38 to 3.4.22

The Hawks started sluggishly after half time, but the Bombers failed to make them pay the full price as they also shanked some absolute sitters. WaynesWorld19 and Golumless both added goals for their respective sides to start the quarter, but it was all Bombers from there. The Bombers would add 4 goals and an incredible 8 behinds to their score for the remainder of this quarter, and the Hawks made them pay with 2 late majors to enter the final change 4 points down at 8.8.56 - 8.12.60.

WaynesWorld19 started the last quarter like a house on fire, kicking a goal with only one minute on the clock. From there though, it was all downhill for the Bombers. A last quarter blitz saw majors from ArdentEagle, Golumless, NaturalDisaster (2), Biggie, and larrikin add 6 goals 4 to the Hawks total, leaving the Bombers to rue their missed opportunities in the third. The Hawks ran out victors by a cool 30 points, with NaturalDisaster 's 7 goals making him the standout player on the ground. Biggie also starred with 19 disposals, 14 hitouts and a goal for good measure.

Editor Note: This match marks the debut of the second Hawk rookie for season 29: Chipmunk. Also it gave a chance for Tony Lynn 15 to tell his season 24 story again.

So we're a bit over a quater of the way through the recap, so it's time for a provisional leaderboard!

Looks like Golumless is out in front, and the bookies would have him as one of the favourites to take out the award at the end of the festival.

Time for a dance break!

Loons is trying to put that game behind him.
