Ebert or Walker?

Thanks:thumbsu:

Gives us time to get the deal done, but it's been said on the other thread that Ebert is off the table, though above a Carlton supporter says Ebert has requested a trade - trying to throw us off Walker perhaps though.

Gonna have a quick search to see if anyone else is reporting that Ebert is off the table, has anyone heard it anywhere else.

Walker.

I couldn't handle having two Eberts in our team. One is definitely bad enough.

how similar is ebert to broadbent. except broady doesnt turn the ball over repeatedly. although does tend to randomly smash it forward off his boot, but usually when winning the contested ball. ebert just seems to float around the field receiving and passing, lol, usually not to his team-mate.

no seriously he isnt that bad, he is decent for 20, but who does he replace on our list. if sal, harts, gray are fit, than boak, pearce, cassisi, cornes, broadbent and moore. really you just end up with maybe someone like matt thomas, banner, pittard, marlon motlop, jay nash and danny meyer fighting for one or two spots on the bench. ebert fits in somewhere up near the top of that group fighting for the group on the bench.

when has anyone ever improved their foot disposal? i cant think of anyone?

maybe, some have gone from bad to... not soooo bad? or good, to a bit better than good. its honestly the one thing you never see change.

eagles fans have been bashing ebert ever since he started playing. and gets alot of loose ball.im actually ok with us getting him, he is an improvement on players like meyer, but never give up pick 16!

Surjan says your wrong!

Anyway in Ebert's case it is not neccessarily improving his kicking it is getting back to what he used to do. He never had queries over his kicking at junior level.

I see it as a bit more like Tredrea who was a great kick for goal at the Maggies, lost it for a while at AFL level but was good later in his career.

EDIT: p.s. just read Emma Q's twitter

Brad Ebert is going nowhere, by the way. 99% sure now that it hasn't even been brought up as a possibility.

I am sure there have been discussions though otherwise one party would have come out and refuted all the calls.

If I had to pick one, it'll be Brad Ebert everyday of the week.
Sentimentality says I agree with this. Would have been a Port father/son if we had the same rules as the Victorian teams. Plus played several school footy games with my eldest son. Otherwise would go for Walker.

Apparently our CEO Trevor Nisbett dismissed it saying he's a required player. From what I've read it seems it's Port who's pushing for Ebert.

I'm pretty sure I did when i practiced a heap :D

At the age of 28 you would be hard struck to improve the disposal of a 200 game player or whatever. But I'd be almost certain they could for a 20 year old. Given all the biomechanics stuff they can do these days.

Matt Thomas gets better every game he plays, I don't think he will reach Wilbur's standard but unless something major changes (like he stops getting better, or we have a huge number of improver) he should be part of our best 22 for a while yet. Same goes for Logan though he plays a different position, and is probably picked after Thomas.

Logan and Thomas are pretty different players though IMO, the only reason they are used in the same sentence so often, is that they aren't as highly skilled as other players (which i think is BS to be honest.) but work harder, and are tougher.

IMO:

Walker makes our best 22.

Ebert would compete with other depth players for a spot in the 22.

Yep, that's about how I see it too.

Walker adds a little more attacking dimension to our squad. He also gives us far greater flexibility. I still don't think I would use pick 16 on him though, but that would depend largely on his medical reports.

Ebert would add another mid that after a game you would look and see he's got 25 or so possessions, and think to yourself - "wow, I suppose he should be in the best as he got lots of it". But you would struggle to remember many of those possessions, or any particular creative plays he was associated with. He's an accumulator, not a gamebreaker.

I think we have more than enough accumulators running through our midfield at present. Our midfield is toothless already without adding to the fact.

Now if the Club wants to be brave and trade out Dom or Kane, well then there may be room. But while we have Dom and Kane racking up stats without being able to influence games we have that area covered for the time being.

Didn't think I could handle two Cornes' either. :thumbsu:

I think if we could aquire either of the two, they would only add further depth to our list.

Got a feeling that deals won't eventuate. Pick 16 is pretty important to us. Only time will tell.

Imo Ebert has questionable ability to run out a game, cannot kick 30 metres to a team mate and is a slow plodder. Walker wins this one easily.

hmmmmm..

I think you are thinking of post 04 Choco Port..... I don't think we'll be able to hang shit on 'accumulators' and justify it anymore.

It probably comes down to personal preference in who you want to see in our side more and what you think will happen to the rest of our squad. Dom wont be around forever and he could play defensive (or attacking) roles around the ground while Banner, Broadbent, Ebert, Hartlett etc are right in the guts. But that probably wont happen this year or next.

I think Moore is our own Walker growing.

i forgot rodan and logan on that list. so who gets replaced by ebert or walker?

i can see how darling, lycett, caddy, smedts, hallahan, prestia could all be capable of being an improvement to our team.

You mean we wasted a top ten pick on a spud?

I don't think we need either. Midfield will be great with all players on the field, forward line developing well, backline could do with another big bodied tall, but if Chad stops breaking his finger he should fill that.
