LOL it will be front page of the herald sun for a week. thats what they do.

It would be a big story, but its not 'rocking the world' type stuff.

We know there are gay players out there, just a matter of time.

As someone stated before, why would Ed need to work for a few weeks on a story about someone coming out?

Ahh, I guess it has been too long since I've read the Herald Sun then ...

... or more likely - not long enough! (Except for the cartoons, does WEG still do them? I loved those)

Seriously, I struggle to imagine the trash rag up here (The Telegraph) running with it, unless the footballers involved (AFL/NRL) deliberately wanted to use it as some kind of gay rights platform.

But that isn't negative news.

And the first gay player coming out wouldn't need to be built up over a period - they would just come out. You don't need to 'work' on that story to uncover it.

In fact, many in the media know of many gay AFL players (as some supporters do as well), so there wouldn't need to be much 'uncovering'. I know of 4.

Having gay AFL players come out wouldn't 'rock' the AFL.

4 confirmed or 4 you suspect?? from the pies or from other clubs?

It has been a long time, WEG died 4 years ago.

I've had a think about what stories there have been in my lifetime that have been truly worthy of the moniker "Blow footy apart"

The only ones I could think of were the Melbourne Storm salary cap scandal and the Superleague breakaway and they weren't even our code.

And maybe the conservatives could have been justified using it during periods of great change - introduction of salary cap, draft, expansion. But Eddie is hardly the conservative type.

This story really has been put on a pedestal.

Which is why im hoping its drug related in relation to players being named, as this is the only story i can think of that would truly rock the AFL landscape, though i suspect i will be highly disappoinnted because of the over the top tag line.

it would be awesome if its Carlton cheating the cap again just as MM joins them. Funny stuff that. Not sure it would rock the afl as everyone knows they are doing it. Same as everyone knows who the drug takers are and which team west of victoria always manages to have 22yo with bodies of 28 yo players.

Surely if the AFL determine that a 3rd party deal should be included in the salary cap then they controlling or stopping them.
No they are merely reducing what can be paid to players in cash while remaining within the cap. What is the legal issue?

The AFL may have legal problems if the draft is challanged and the operation of the draft in conjunction with the cap may be more an issue than the draft alone but the cap itself is not a legal problem and incoproration other payments involving club arrangements with 3rd parties or associates of clubs is not illegal.

Seperately, players arrangements with independant 3rd parties probably cannot be controlled by the AFL and that is where investigations into what may be behind some deals could eventuate but that is more about the legitimacy of the independance from club contrived salary cap avoidance.

If you look at the Judd deal, the issue really is whether it is market value for his service and whether if not that exists due to club assosiation. It is market value then there still could be an issue if it only exists due to the association between Visy and Carlton and that is why the AFL is unlikely to allow an extension.

Hopefully he tells us that we are now owned by a rich oil digging qatari group or something like all the dominant teams in world football and that the AFL is getting rid of the salary cap.

It probably has to do with the blues and salary cap. Perhaps Eddie is just letting them know that if they get Cloke, he will reveal all he knows. If Trav signs with pies again, he will throw another lame story out there in disguise. Many from other clubs bag Eddie, but they also fear his power, influence and temper when things don't go his way. You never win a fight with Eddie - you just give up from sheer exhaustion.

My mail is that the person that will come out has HIV and will be considering retirement.
lets see in the next couple of weeks.

Well that is Something that could Rock the AFL but hasn't it Happend Before. Though in my book it would not Rock the AFL

if you were HIV+ i'd expect you wouldn't be allowed to play a full contact sport like AFL, massive danger to fellow players, there is blood regulary spilt in the AFL and it occassionally gets on others. Noone near worth the risk of spreading HIV.

No way in hell is it true though, pretty dumb rumour
