Mate, the comp is on a knife edge with this second wave coming through. He is putting the game at risk. 4 weeks
Nailed it, an awful lot of people don't seem understand that fact, also regarding the comparison with what LH did (on paper no doubt his situation was worse) , it's no use comparing the penalties because of the comp now being so close to total shutdown/cancel mode.
Given McGuire's meant to be part of the decision making re this season continuing (cant remember his roll) his stupid on-air response is all the more amazing for all the wrong reasons.

I was in a nightclub once and got a headache. A guy sold me some painkillers, which I never usually take, and I felt heaps better and danced the night away. Went to go the bathroom and found myself outside, then the bouncer wouldn’t let me back in. This can happen to anyone.

McGuire was okay in this instance. Defending his player, but not his actions... saying it's a pretty harsh suspension and well done to Sidebottom for copping it sweet. What's wrong with that? Seems okay to me. Not sure why people are getting stuck in. The reason why Collingwood and my club Hawthorn are great clubs is because they support their players. They don't publicly sh*t all over them like some other loser clubs do.

Tony Jones, on the other hand... What a bellend! How does that tool have such a prominent job in the media?
There isn't a person who meets him who doesn't come away thinking "F**k this guy!"

Tony Jones was just doing his job and he expressed what every right thinking person was thinking. "proud of him Eddie? huh".
I might support a "loser" club, but at least I can be grateful that my club isn't run by a beacon of ridicule like Jeff Kennett or Eddie McGuire

And coming off the back of his comment during the Jack Steven incident, it reeks of absolute hypocrisy and further highlights his damaging conflict of interest.
Ah but that was Eddie the Media Commentator, whereas now we’re dealing with Eddie the President. Two different people so it’s quite okay.

This is a thread to discuss Eddies responses to Steele’s actions, not to abuse other posters. Thanks 👍🏻

I thought it was a thread to watch that lady jiggle.

I wonder what Buckley thinks of Eddies bizzare interviews? His job would be hard enough right now trying to keep players physically and mentally fit in this screw up of a year without having his president stirring up a huge media shitstorm and basically turning the situation into a laughing stock.

Did you see Buckley's Interview, it was just as laughable.

Haha, are we supposed to believe that SideBottom fell asleep on the couch after drinking scotch, got up to go bathroom and walked through the wrong door out onto the street and ends up in a cop car lol

And Eddie acting like its such a regular explanation, that’s it’s just a normal thing that happens to lots of people.

Cant wait to find out what kind of drugs were involved...
How smashed do you have to be a 7.30 in the morning to not know that the toilet isn't outside. Sure you might open the wrong door but to go walking around looking for the toilet?

I wonder it there were any scaley mates involved?

Looking forward to te full story to come out.

“ We’re proud of him “ lol
Eddie is deluded. Eddie is proud of Steele because he accepted the 4 week suspension. This is no better than someone admitting guilt after all the facts are laid out before them.

And to say his leadership at the club will not be reviewed says it all. What message does THAT send out. If you flout the rules and accept the penalty all’s good.

I’ve always admired Eddies commitment to Collingwood and how he wears his passion on his sleeve, speaks his mind and makes stupid human mistakes like anyone else. But his judgement and response here is so off I honestly wonder if he’s just under too much pressure and should take take some time off to decompress.

Buckley made a statement earlier in the day and basically said the exact same things...

The leadership at that club is all about defending and deflecting.

I can see you,I know who you are, I know were you live, I AM everywhere....

I'm confused. Why has he got a Port Adelaide guernsey on his wall and old photos of Fos Williams?

Lets gets this in the proper perspective.

The AFL is trying to save a mega million dollar sporting franchise that employs 1000’s.

They are fighting tooth and nail to appease Doctors across the land and State Ministers, who are rightly being very protective of their own states. They are making the AFL jump through hoops. Victorians have made it worse with the massive upturn in Covid cases each day.

Fwit 1 and Fwit 2 have wanted a drink and decided to put the Entire AFL system into peril with all all those jobs into jeopardy. Who the @#$%&! Do these selfish pricks think they are.

They both deserve 6 to 10 Weeks to be honest.

Spot on.

Yet you still have some short sighted people being all like 'all he did was have some drinks with a mate, what's the big deal??'.
Not sure how people can be that dumb and not see the big picture implications Steele's actions could have and why the AFL needs to crack down on it.

If the AFL season gets suspended or doesn't complete a full season a lot of people will suffer financially being out of a job or having to take hefty pay cuts.

But when it involves another club, Eddie's media hat comes on so fast......

Did they drug test him?

My interpretation from Eddie is.... so if you go somewhere with the best intentions, have a few to many then you are excused for any poor behaviours that follow.

Just think of all the assaults and domestic violence that have occurred under the same rationale that Ed is giving a free pass to Sidebottom for.

In saying that, what i think Ed is really thinking is that the covid measures are a load of sh*t and i support my player fully.

You’re spot on, and if I was Professor Sutton I’d be responding to Eddie and remind everyone that with such attitudes this is why Victoria is on the precipice.

And people wonder why SA, WA and Queensland don't offer exemptions to AFL players to come and play games in a controlled environment.

Lol at Maguire trying to explain how Sidebottom has no clear recollection of events, can’t recall his movements, was disorientated etc etc because of the effects of drinking too much of something that he hasn’t been used to. Can’t wait for real action to hit our screens in the next few hours/days.

Haha he's basically absolved him of any responsibility because he was off his face...firstly, that doesn't absolve you of responsibility at all, and two it was his decision in the first place to drink scotch which he 'wasnt used to' (lol) and get shitfaced. He could have just had a few beers which would have been OK. Drugs definitely involved.

He's acting like Sidebottom is the victim and is a moron with an IQ of 30 and so we shouldn't go hard on him.

And that bit about how everyone gets shitfaced to the point of not knowing the difference between the toilet door and front door...wow. Not to mention he stayed outside and got taken home by police. Yeah that happens to everybody...
