EDFL Div 1 Discussion 2023

Mate it’s not an ideal situation and I’m not in favour of some restrictions but it would have stopped the fiasco at 3/4 time where spectators entered the field.
The spectators not coming on was more for juniors as to keep the games on schedule as they can go Lo get waiting for people to leave the ground.

I don’t wish to go over things again but these restrictions were bought in due to junior issues. Yes we hear stuff at senior footy and it’s part of the landscape in part, but the amount of idiots at junior footy is just getting worse. And no one is pulling it up!! Coaches and parents need to step up and stand up!!
Yes we all dispute the odd decision but move on. Do they criticise their own kids mistakes or others in their own team. Hell no they will probably get belted by a parent at their own club if they did that. They take the weak cowardly option to abuse a young umpire or opposing player, some as young as 12.

I'm not fully buying its because of juniors more so than seniors.

Have kids in 8s and 10s at Hillside and my son fills in for 12s too and i have not seen 1 incident nor have games really ran over time.

I also am both 8s and 10s match day official on alternating weeks.

Also it totally killed the vibe of the game and day as a whole.

Did it ruin your vibe?

I've got some news for you, "IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU". Your job is to get your child there , make sure they have everything they need, grab a bib if you are rostered on to do your job, leave them in the care of the coaches/volunteers for the duration of the game, then meet the child at the door after the game with a Hot Dog and Drink........

I'm sure the kids wouldn't've noticed the "vibe" as you call it, they are there to play a game, listen to their coach...

"killed the vibe" , cmon mate, if you really believe that time to have a good look in the mirror

Put simply umpires are declining due to the abuse from spectators and players and it’s been this way for a few years.
They just want to umpire not put up with the sh&& and the spot fires that occur which then can often lead to a melee. How many coaches are brave enough and smart enough to then remove the player themselves for a period of time. Even if it’s the best player, or a coaching staffs son. Why ignore it and expect umpires to step in.. Seen it so many times it’s not funny.

If you lose a game, lose with respect. Not carry on!!

These rules are completely unenforceable and would not have stopped incidents we have seen this year.
Still waiting on their advice on what to do if nobody volunteers for the role of 'Match Day Official' at Seniors games. I doubt if many people want to spend their free Saturday afternoon being a defacto security guard for no pay.
Good Point - I think i will just stay home and save my $50 spent each week supporting the local clubs - Plenty of other things i can do - I will just check the results on a Saturday night. This has just become an embarrassing JOKE now. Reactive decisions made on the run and lets just obtain feedback in 3-4 weeks time. Ha ha. I think they missed the whole point of what Local football means.. My group of 6-8 people are thinking along the same lines.

People constantly been told what they can't do - Provide a list of what we can do and in the meantime, recruit & train better umpires and pay them double so they can control games and make better decisions. Not to be asked by the team manager at 1/4 or during the breaks who is giving them trouble - What an absolute Joke !!!

We have had match day officials at juniors for years now and they are completely useless. As is the umpires escort. Not having a go at anyone volunteering for the role but who wants to put themselves in the middle of a tense situation in their free time for no benefit.
They do not work at junior level and will not work at senior level.

Purely symbolic roles, both of them.

If the EDFL really wanted to do something, then punish any clubs who breach any of the codes of conduct heavily. And that means if a junior team mucks up, then the senior team cops it in the neck as well and vice versa. Taking away premiership points or making teams play for no points will see clubs pull their socks up quick smart.

But EDFL too scared to do this for whatever reason.

Gee Hillside have the PR machine working hard on here. So much made up b******t being posted by some is mind boggling. Turbo you are the biggest culprit.
Amongst all of the spin let’s not forget the FACT that none of this would have happened if TWO HS people (one being the ex captain) didn’t enter the field to get involved in the scrap that was happening between the players.
HS trying to wash their hands of this is a disgrace.
🤦🏼‍♂️

Bit of a harsh reply.

And actually captain know it all our kids did notice that their parents and siblings couldn't get around them at the breaks.

No kids even went on the field to have a kick.

If you don't think having a good vibe around the games for kids and parents is important then you are a dumb campaigner.

It totally changed the whole experience of the game.

And step down off that high horse once in a while you self righteous toss.
It's vital parents understand it's their responsibility to create a great environment(vibe) for kids and others at Junior Sport. It's moronic to blame not being able to listen to 1/4 and 3/4 time speeches as a reason not to be able to create that environment.

I'd be surprised if any kid noticed or complained about not having Mum/Dad at breaks , if they did maybe it's time to have a look at the Parenting Skills and teach them resilience!!!!

The way the bumbag brigade carried on id say it would of happened anyway.
Stop kidding yourself.
There was bad blood, it spilled over.
Poor by both clubs but SA did want to absolutely carry on with it.
Actually no, it wouldn’t have happened if those two from HS didn’t run in.
You can speculate all you want but fact is those two from HS were responsible for the whole thing kicking off.

Teenage supporters at Hillside on Sunday weren’t the best behaved. When match day officials spoke to them, they just went to opposite end away from club rooms. Could still be heard from both benches yelling abuse at opposition kids. That crap doesn’t normally bother me, but Hillside are part of the reason we have got to this.

So you want to take your kid to local footy have a kick with them buy some food have a good day together . Now you have to tell them they’re not allowed on the ground edfl is stupid they should be trying to get kids to go to games not making it that they don’t want to come anymore. I’m not sure about this Andrew Johnson bloke as I heard he was a pretty ordinary coach at the cannons hope he’s not another Kite.

I thought it was reported that no one was allowed on the ground at all
I've had the odd occasion to speak with Rusiate dating back to when my he and my son went through the Multicultural program together or when they played against each other. Would always say hello, have a chat and be very respectful. I don't blame him for the way he reacted as he looked to be clearly targeted.

Ongoing investigation or not, that incident alone was worthy of a punishment which would've sent a clear message to the rest of the league and shown terrific leadership at the same time.

On relegation, I think it's down to 3 teams. Glenroy, Westy and Tulla.

Game Day Changes
The Essendon District Football League have made the decision to implement the following for ALL GRADES effective this coming weekend 3rd of June.
1. ALL GRADES Match Day Managers
Trial Implementation at Senior level.
Junior level continuation of role. To monitor own clubs crowd behaviour.

This person will also go out to the umpires (along with Umpire escorts) at ¼, ½ and ¾ times to ask if all is ok i.e. with players so they can be directed at ¼ ½ and ¾ time about behaviour of players or if a person or group of spectators need to be pointed out then they or a senior person committee member approaches the supporter or group.

Important that if the behaviour continues then further confrontation is avoided and the person/s identity is attempted to be established and further action taken later. Action to be at the discretion of the club.

2. ALL GRADES No spectators allowed on grounds at ¼ and ¾ breaks.
Coaches’ huddles at breaks to be within areas close to coaches box.

3. ALL GRADES Exclusion zones around ALL coaches’ boxes - 25 metres

We appreciate your cooperation & support as these changes are implemented. And we ask all our members if you see any anti social behaviour call it out, don’t ignore it. It takes all of us to drive this improvement to the game we love!

I thought it was supposed to be the above looks like they have changed it

This is why the EDFL need to make a statement and put it on THEIR website, twitter and Facebook accounts. It will clear up any confusion for all of us.

I'm told an ex Hillside player copped a bit on Saturday too and felt strongly enough to point to his stomach after a goal. I also agree they need to share some blame. Supporters have no place in a melee between players. Just stay out of it and let it settle down.

If they were competent, they would have been on the front foot but unfortunately the silence has been deafening.
They appear all too happy to allow the clubs to manage the situation for them which is pathetic.
