I mean if you are trying to recruit a player and he’s shipping himself around, you probably don’t want them at your club.
why? because they are out there seeing what they are worth, why stay somewhere if your being paid unders, got to get out there and see what your worth. You boss must love you, stay loyal and be the lowest paid person at your job!

Yeah fair point. I need to get with the times, it’s all about the money these days.

Off subject Short from Roxy 100% gone and off to Wallan. How much does this heart Roxy ?

I still believe in the old school dream of playing with mates and the off field experience probably being more important than who will pay the most money for a players services. After game banter in the rooms makes a club , Its not all about money because money will ruin the competition eventually. OK if we want keilor, strathmore and Aberfeldie and now Deer Park offering the most money and basically ruining the chance or the dream of other clubs to aspire to be successful in EDFL then that is what will happen. Money does not mean they are the best clubs nor do results if the cap rules are not followed. I love watching footy in div 1 and sometimes div 2 to see the passion of most clubs even when getting belted. The talk of $20,000 sign on fees and the like are going to kill off the competition. Its really a poison chalice to win div 1 and be promoted.

Good post and a lot do play with mates like you said. I do think the points system has stopped a group of mates heading to a club outside the 5 and get them success. Has worked in some ways I guess but it’s a headache.

Absolute complete rubbish. Let’s ALL remember that a club like Abers started this spending when they went after players paying 2 and 3 times overs to win a premiership and ultimately got caught for breaches. This was in part why the salary cap was introduced.

Unfortunately other clubs had to then try and compete in some ways and it’s ruined the sport to a degree.

Dispute it all you wish but Abers were the ones who threw ridiculous money at players.

I tend to agree Keilor don’t go that far and pay less players good coin. McGuane and regular finals is the major lure for the players. Yes they pay 3-4 very good coin and McGuane surely the highest paid coach in this league for many years. But money well spent…

Agree completely, maybe the old school values don’t exist anymore.

However there is no better feeling singing the song after a gutsy win and looking around and staring in the eyes of genuine mates, who you have history with, played juniors with, went to school with, or are life long friends…Winning and achieving something in an environment as mentioned above is priceless and worth sticking around, potentially taking a bit less cash. I can’t be convinced blokes who swan in and have no history with the playing group can get anywhere near the euphoria of winning with genuine mates.

Agree his been the heart & soul of Roxy but personally think they will be better without out and move in a different direction.
Interesting to see how he would go in Riddell as his predominantly done his best work on edfl heavy grounds as his not renowned for his leg speed. Better grounds and more open footy in Riddell so let’s see how he goes.

Carroll from Sunshine to St Albans.

Kicked 100 this season, but monstered the battlers.

By jingoes he’s had a few clubs!
Interesting choice for St Albans. Are they just intending to stay in div1 for years to come? As players like Carroll won’t play higher than B grade standard. Individuals can play where they want and chase the $$ but for the club it’s not an investment into the future!

Wouldn’t think he would kick near 100 goals next year. Will be a good target up forward for SA though

Marby and Greenvale were the Clubs that started the real arms race in the mid 2000's, the league has never been the same since.

Cant really knock those clubs either as it was what they needed to do to become competitive in the division, but the follow on that it caused has sapped all the tribalism out of the EDFL at the top end for the most part. Sad to think about to be honest but is what it is.

As the other poster said earlier, poison chalice to win this division as its only hidings waiting on the other side.

Tribalism is the perfect word to describe div 1 footy but it is not relevant to premier. Spot on.
