I was watching the Swans get pummelled again by Geelong last night & in particular watched Jeremy Cameron.
He's a fantastic player - not your standard key forward, because of his mobility.
Ed is about the same height & level of athleticism (although lighter at this stage), and I wondered if Ed has the potential to be a similar sort of player.
Yes, very early days, and he is considered a midfielder/winger, but if he develops his aerial game he could be a threat on many levels.
He is not a KPP…. He is a mid / wingman, without an aerial game. Think people need to accept that players are different and need to play to their strengths, regardless of their height.
It’s the same but reversed reason why Curnow and Mihocek do not play as a mids, despite being shorter than Cripps. And darling as a forward, despite being the same height as judd etc etc etc

Kid loves to run all day, find the pill, burn opponents, deliver inside F50 or hit the scoreboard on the run. Lets let him do that, as it’s prob the most valuable set of skills to have in the game.

His aerial game will improve slowly as he was at average height a couple of years ago.
Grew 20CM or so since.
He will never be a KPP I feel.
The wingman that burns opponents up and down the ground with the odd goal.
Inside midfield perhaps in a few years. He should grow another 2 or 3 CM I reckon. Still only 18 years old.
Was at Shane Crawford height and now at around Anthony Rocca.
Would have been difficult to adjust for young Edward.

Bottom line - he could be anything.

He doesn't yet strike me as someone who runs all day, finds a stack of football, burns opponents. I know that we all want him to be this type of player, but he hasn't done much of it yet I don't think.

Right now he has shown to be someone who gets a bit of the ball and makes smart choices with it (both hand and foot). His handballing is excellent.

Would be amazing but it’s exceedingly rare, to the point I can’t think of any examples, for a player without a noted aerial game to suddenly play like a KPP. IMO it’s one of those things you either have or you don’t from a young age.

Until recently, he wasn't KPP size.

Yep, this. Fair way off senior selection at this stage imho. His inside work is a work in progress, as is his 1v1 contested stuff and his defensive application. His tackle numbers up today so that’s good but reflective that he was too often 2nd to the footy. He looks very exciting when he gets the opportunity to run with the footy though and his ball use is generally top notch.

Kid is a jet. Looking forward to seeing more and more of these types of plays as he develops. Can’t wait to see him and Nicky D terrorising midfields in a few years.

I wouldn't be surprised if they completely refrain from naming him sub the entire season even if he is the 23rd best player. Primarily because apart from Steene, he might be the player it is most critical to get game time into on the entire list. Either he makes the team or he plays full games in the twos.

This kids development due to his skillset is arguably the most important focus the team has from a developmental perspective because of the age profile of our most important midfielders. You see some other young teams with absolute stud big bodied inside mids (North are gonna be a problem when Wardlaw comes through), and you realise we are gonna need some serious talent to phase in as our older players phase out if we want to maintain similar quality.

Atm there is nothing “inside” about Ed’s game, very outside atm and large parts of the game on the wing only plays into that. So a looong way to go to build that into his game with how they use him.

iirc Reef was originally the hope of big inside mid, but looks like club now pegged him as a forward.

Ed reminds me of Bont - seems to move in a similar way, cruises around the ground and doesn't seem to have a burst of speed.

He doesn't have top end speed, but sure has enough to play in the middle, particularly for a mid his size. Has a really good outside game, and I'd love to see him develop more inside. Has a perfect prototype to follow in SP10. Also started out on the wing and moved inside. If we can get similar development, I don't care what position he plays, as long as he's wearing black and white!

Some were predicting him to play first round, which made my expectations extremly high. Nothing really has pushed the early promise has it?
Probably wont play this year it seems.
He may play one or more games. Dependant on tomorrow I reckon. If he puts in a big one Fly may play him vs the Eagles. Still a teenager but travelling ok.

Fly hinted at his last presser that they were keen to expose some young talent in the coming weeks.

He was drafted as a long term prospect. Injuries etc. we’ve given him a 4 year deal. Nobody expected him to be pushing selection this year

Patience, grasshopper.
He's still a teenager who was a smallish midfielder 2 years a go, but is now key position size.
Has all the tools, which we'll see in due course.

Think all of Ryan, Draper, Macrae, Bianco, Harrison, and Murley would be in those discussions. McInnes, Kelly, Carmichael and Ruscoe already have some exposure.
