Would be amazing but it’s exceedingly rare, to the point I can’t think of any examples, for a player without a noted aerial game to suddenly play like a KPP. IMO it’s one of those things you either have or you don’t from a young age.

Buddy Franklin?

He’ll be fine. Not everyone will blitz it straight away like Nicholas.

I do think covid looks to have impacted Ed in some way. For comparison, I’m a healthy male in my 20’s, and when I got infected with Covid the first time (omicron wave last year) it took me about a month to feel normal again. It zapped my energy and gave me hellish headaches after every day at work. I couldn’t have imagined trying to play a game of footy at the time.

I do think people understate how much a first covid infection could knock some of these young blokes around. See HH and Taylor Adams last year

Reckon we would know by now? if he was debuting. I don't get the sense fly likes to debut kids as subs though.
And they would have announced it yesterday so they can get his family in for the jumper presentation which generally is before the captains run.

Doubt he's debuting. Suspect he'll be emergency alongside AJ and Frampton.

He did however look a class above in the VFL from the portions I saw on the weekend. That of course probably doesn't happen without Cox dominating the ruck and was aided by the absence of Macrae and Carmichael.
I’ll go a step further. Zero chance of debuting even if I would be happy to see it.

Edit: choice of language was initially a bit dramatic.

I think a few media people - Tom Browne now included - are using his inclusion in today's Captains Run as an indication that he might debut.

I mean, he might. But also it wouldn't be the first captains run he has partaken in this season, and definitely wouldn't be the first time he has been an emergency.

I'd just be surprised given he played VFL 5 days ago and probably needs to play center square when he comes in, or else we're probably setting him up to fail.

I'd like to think we'll one day be calling him Bontempallan 🤷

Can't see that he would get a game on the strength of 15 possessions in the VFL last week.

I think he could do well in Lipinski’s high half forward role if Lippa replaces Sidebottom on the wing and I think we need to inject more speed in the team

But I think the time to try that was early in the year when WHE’s form was so so and Lippa was out not 3 games out from the finals.

Now is not the time to tinker with the core 26 or so players. Surely someone like WHE would be more impactful to our chances of winning the game. I'd love to see Ed but the chance is gone for this year.
Well WHE is probably already coming in from N Daicos, we still need another runner into the 22 to replace Sidebottom - could easily be Ed.

Allan played the whole VFL game, so if he does debut, it'll only have to be as the sub.

Its only been 4 days.

While I reckon this is most likely true, I don't think it's definite as you state. Players are capable of playing off 5-day breaks, it's not unheard of. And I don't think there's an enormous difference between the gametime that say, WHE played, compared to what Allan played - certainly not such a difference that you'd categorically say WHE can start but Allan couldn't.

Still, in saying all that, I do think it would be most likely that Markov and WHE go into the 22 and Ed starts as the sub.

I like what he has to offer and the question I’d be asking is whether 10 possessions from him as the sub trumps WHE’s. I don’t see it in Rd 22 over a guy that’s played every game bar 1 when fit under Fly.

FWIW Markov to HB, Crisp into the middle, Lipinski to a wing and Ginnivan to HF is how it works in his favour. That’s a lot of shuffling when you can just use Ginnivan as the sub…

Yeah the whole playing off a 5 day break is bit overstated at times.

You'll have games where you pull up great and can go again within the week if needed. They're pro athletes after all.

Would love to see Allan get a debut, although it does seem unlikely at this point of the season.

Ed won the 20m sprint so he adds pace. Ideal role as a sub, particularly if we want to see if he offers something more. Could really threaten Lippa's spot if he plays well.

Could not agree any more with this post!

The time to give kids some games was earlier in the year, we've missed the opportunity and now must pray our senior players don't get injured or have bad form, coz there ain't much at VFL level.

I get a Feeling Fly does not want any more Debuts in 2023

Think Allen or Ginnivan still a chance of playing should Murphy be rested late

Don’t need more than Moore and Frampton down back to curtail Cameron

Henry can be managed by Maynard

Then it’s just Stengel and the rare cameo from Rohan
I wouldn't be too cocky about Maynard managing Henry. He played a great first half last week. He is definitely one who got away.
