News Eight team mega deal (as reported in The Age)

Obviously a few more bits to be added to it to balance it up, but that's the bits they've actually put in the article.

Sticking points:
  • Melbourne want more than that for Hogan
  • Brisbane want more than that for Beams, and would prefer Beams deal is not part of the mega deal
  • Collingwood need pick 18 to match bids in the draft

Probably indicative that it won't get done if 3 of the 8 are unhappy with it. Will just waste valuable time and end up in an all-in panic in the last hour.

I’ll give #15 for Wingard & #18 :D

8 team mega trade proposal:
1. Pick 18 (Coll) for Pick 23 + Pick 49 (Frem)
2. Pick 23 + Future 1st (Coll) for D. Beams + Pick 41 + Pick 44 (Bris)
3. Pick 5 + Coll Future 1st (Bris) for L.Neale + Pick 30 (Frem)
4. Pick 11 (Frem) for R. Lobb + Pick 25 (GWS)
5. Pick 5 + Pick 25 (Frem) for J. Hogan (Melb)
6. Pick 5 (Melb) for S. May + K. Kolodjashni (GCS)
7. R. Burton + Pick 15 (Haw) for C. Wingard (Port)
8. Pick 3 + Pick 29 (GCS) for Pick 6 + Pick 15 (Port)

It's a nice thought bubble but I'd bet dollars to donuts it's bullshit, at least in that form. Brisbane get absolutely screwed. Gold Coast get screwed almost as much. Why would Brisbane go from demanding overs for Beams (in his agent's words) to having him go essentially for free with what we're attempting to pay for Neale? Why would Gold Coast go from demanding 5 for May alone to getting 6 for May and KK?

Doesn't make any sense for either club.

8. Pick 3 + Pick 29 (GCS) for Pick 6 + Pick 15 (Port)
Why would GC give up pick 3 so early ?
Draft night St Kilda pick 4 and Adelaide multiple first round are on offer .After tomorrow you still can swap pick .

I still think Brisbane wouldn't go for that.

Missed the #23 pick, must be coming from Fremantle to get to Melbourne, evens up that bit a touch. Still think it won't happen as Brisbane not getting what they want for Beams.
OP updated. Good catch :)

It sounds like it's possible for Brisbane to break out of the deal and do the bits they need to do separately, but they seem to simultaneously not want to pay for Neale and then also demand more for Beams  It's probably easier for everyone if it all goes through together, since all the different bits are dependent on each other to a large extent. I bet the AFL would love it too just for the theatre of it and the amount of mileage they'd get out of it on the TV finale thing.

May, pick 23 and Kade Kolo would be a reasonable haul for Hogan really.

If they didn't have other key forwards you could understand not going there but McDonald and Weideman is a decent set up plus Gawn spending more time up there then you have the other McDonald, May and Lever as your third up defender and you are locked and loaded for talls at both ends and have a gun contested midfield in the centre.
Agree. Whilst I’d of course want more for Hogan we’d address the key backs issue. Also add run with KK. We really are pretty fortunate with Tmac and Weideman who took big steps this year. We’ll also be able to play Preuss as a ruck forward.
At the end of the day I’d rather keep Hogan but he wants to go home and if it’s not this year he’s OOC next year and would likely leave anyway.

Jake Niall and Michael Gleeson reporting in The Age that an eight-team mega deal will go down tomorrow (also described as a few large and related deals).

As far as I can make out it looks a little something like this:

Melbourne in: Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij, #23
Melbourne out: Jesse Hogan

Brisbane in: Lachie Neale
Brisbane out: Dayne Beams, #5

Fremantle in: Rory Lobb, Jesse Hogan
Fremantle out: Lachie Neale, #23*

Collingwood in: Dayne Beams
Collingwood out: #18

Port Adelaide in: #5, #15, Ryan Burton
Port Adelaide out: Chad Wingard, #6

Gold Coast in: #6
Gold Coast out: Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij

Hawthorn in: Chad Wingard
Hawthorn out: Ryan Burton, #15

GWS in: #18
GWS out: Rory Lobb

*edited to add, missed initially. Thanks to Giant Strides for catching it.
It’s not the worst I’ve seen...

GC need a 2019 2nd from Collingwood and Freo need to give up P11 to Brisbane to even it out. Freo aren’t getting Lobb and Hogan for Neale and a 2nd round selection.
