Surely if you're trying to use something to raise awareness, it's better to do it in a way that more people... want to watch...?Something is better than nothing.
It also promotes awareness.

Do you know what they do after the match?^Not when nobody is watching or attending
Would you have the figures on how many watched the game, just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean everybody didn't like it.Surely if you're trying to use something to raise awareness, it's better to do it in a way that more people... want to watch...?
Why was it moved to AAMI park. Compared to Marvel it’s a pain to get to.Watched a bit of the 1st qtr then FFwd'd it to the last qtr, just cringeworthy garbage, the size of the crowd was almost embarrassing.
Yep but at least in previous years they actually played on a AFL sized venue and there was some defending and genuine effort involved. Hell 2017 had full 20 minute quarters. Granted last year was a horrible spectacle which is probably why they changed it up so much for this year's edition. Its been a pisstake. For God's sake Russell Gilbert, Strachanie, Hamish and Andy, Hutchy, etc. All played. It's not a footy match, it's basically an exhibition show like live theatre.
Ever heard of inflation? And who’s to say it wouldn’t be making more if competently run. Weak argument.
Continuing 24 hours later with another weak argument, this time about AFLW? Jeezus.Getting 50,000 plus to a womans game wouldn't see him going anywhere in any sports business. As fans, we can hate him all we want, but if you were on the board, youd be more than happy, in any sports industry. Dont let your hate get in the way of common sense.
Personally I feel like there is no value in it for adults, it's never been a sporting contest. Its good for kids.Yep but at least in previous years they actually played on a AFL sized venue and there was some defending and genuine effort involved. Hell 2017 had full 20 minute quarters. I wouldn't mind that at all however the majority of the crowd/viewers are there for the laughs and former players. Don't think they care about the centre half-back from Peel Thunder representing the WAFL. Perhaps a curtain raiser?Personally I feel like there is no value in it for adults, it's never been a sporting contest. Its good for kids.
If they wanted to get adults engaged they'd be better off doing some state league State of Origin, grab all the best players from the VFL, WAFL, SANFL, etc. and have them play in a a charity match honoring Whitten.
Could we combine a good footy contest like state level SoO with other events on the night to have the best of both worlds? Just spitballing ideas but the format used Friday night didn't seem to appeal to anyone.I wouldn't mind that at all however the majority of the crowd/viewers are there for the laughs and former players. How is a 600m walk from Richmond station to AAMI Park anymore of a pain to get to than a 600m walk from Southern Cross station to Marvel stadium??
IMO it’s about perception. Actually I’ve never been to AAMI but seems out of the way compared to Marvel within the CBD.
But in reality— it’s most likely that Marvel Stadium may’ve been concerned about the quality of the grass and the effort it would take to return the ground to AFL after the basketball last Saturday
Plus there's the little matter of all those competitions actually playing finals of real football games this weekend.I wouldn't mind that at all however the majority of the crowd/viewers are there for the laughs and former players.
