Well after watching countless vids on YouTube I decided to buy the game

Made a promise to my self that I want to beat my first souls type game

Picked up the game for $15 after trading in 2 3ds games with my level 4 trade in bonus

Even the bloke at EB games was amazed that I got the game so cheap by trading in old ass games 😂

Since this will be my first proper souls game any tips will be welcomed.
Best rule is don't get greedy. If the boss/enemy is on 1HP play it safe because dying to a near dead boss is a classic.

With this game in particular don't beat your head against a wall too hard trying to get past an area you're struggling with, there's a ****tonne of other places to check out and level up in.

Spacing. Keep good spacing.

Dont dodge during an attack wind up, wait for it to release. There's a few enemies with brutal attack timings, caught me off guard a few times.

If you see a message left by a player that says "jump" or "illusory wall ahead" you can bet its probably a lie. You will find helpful messages though.

Played 10 minutes and there seems to be a lot of troll messages left by players lol.
A staple of these games.

Nice what did you tell your boss?
That I'm taking a week off to play Elden Ring, get ****ed campaigner. More of a partner than a boss so it was all good. We've got people that want the work so it's no loss. I was due some days off anyway.

Do I finish Horizon first or put it on the back burner and start this 🥲
I'm sticking with Horizon in the hope the technical issues get fixed in a week or too. I've heard great things about the Open World of ER (BOTW like) so I'm afraid this will ruin the Ubi style open world of Horizon if I jump out halfway (same thing happened with the original Horizon for me). I'm enjoying the story and will just mainline it I think.

Even though I'm a Dark Souls 1 expert (in one of my recent playthroughs I didn't die at all until I got to the four kings - even made it through the buggy mess that is the bed of chaos unscathed!!!), the first bolded point is vital. I've had many duels get to the point where 1 more hit and the boss dies... and 1 more hit and I will die..... and I'd die frequently in that scenario :p

With the second bolded point, when things got too frustrating I just over leveled myself to conquer the annoying bosses.
Now I'm cocky and aggro the early game NPC's (as I can riposte their attacks at will). I don't get too nervous with the final end game boss any more either as that's a pretty simple riposte process, granted one slip up and you effectively die (unless you're good at retreating and healing fast).

I'll be playing Elden Ring with my hand held a bit along the way, I like watching youtube walkthroughs of games and emulating the paths the players do.... but put my own spin on them. I can already see myself getting lost in the world and not knowing where the hell to go (essentially my run through of Dark Souls 3 was like WHERE AM I ? :p).

Make sure you're never fat rolling. I think my character had no pants for 3/4 of Demons souls

Don't be afraid to grind some souls / levels / weapon upgrades in easier areas if you are struggling.

Look up guides or tips. They are punishing games so just finishing one is enough.

Some bosses can sometimes be cheesed or you can summon some help.

Something I did for DS3 on bosses I couldn't summon help with (Dancer) was to listen to music to try and relax while fighting (getting my arse kicked) rather than getting angry.

Be ready for jump scares, ambushes and trickery. Dying and losing all your souls is part of it as now you know about the monster hiding behind the door so can get past that part next time.

Greediness is the biggest killer right next to gravity in dark souls. It's always the first thing I tell people 😂 I just now got a little greedy with an essential boss, luckily we traded kills so I got the goods.

I've made myself put the game down now. Been playing since midnight. I've never played a game that long in one sitting I don't think. Even though I've put it down I want to keep going.

Getting lost in ED is a joy. The new mechanics they've added make the game so much better.

I can't wait for everyone to be deep into it so we can all talk spoiler free.

Probably my favourite game of all time. Never nerded out this much over a game.

I beat my first boss in the cave with wolves died about a dozen times but beat him eventually felt so good lols.

How do I know when I’m levelled up or close to it? Also how do I find out where to go next to progress the story?
the little counter in the bottom right is the amount of runes you have, spend them at the sites of lost grace to level up. You'll see an option that says level up.

On the map you should see yellow dots that you've visited, some of them will have a little "arrow" pointing in the direction to continue the main story, or when you rest at them you might see a whispy type thing leading in a direction. That's the story direction basically. Hope that makes sense.

But it's almost worth almost ignoring the path it's pointing you in. For a time at least.

I reread your post, I think I misunderstood.

Youll essentially know youre leveled up when you're not getting your arse kicked so much 😂

I gambled far too often, regardless if it was 200 or 20,000 Souls. I would be mega annoyed if I died before I retrieved them. Often it would be from rushing back to the area and being overwhelmed by the swarming undead army that was chasing me.

Looking forward to tonight. I read one re iew that claimed there's about 30 hours of main story content and loads more hours to spend exploring. Which means I'll finish it by April (hopefully).

I see so you needs runes (money) level up ok

I would just say DO NOT watch playthroughs or walkthroughs of the game because you will be robbing yourself of the best parts of these games which is the discoveries. Doing a huge disservice to yourself otherwise.
Boss guides are fine, knowing the mechanics and a good strategy can save a lot of time and be the difference between someone finishing and being converted to souls games or just giving up because it's too hard.
