i think it should be two divisions not two leagues
IN DIV 1 they have
Garfield
Bunyip
Cora Lynn
Nar Nar Goon
Warragul Industrials
Koo Wee Rup
Neerim Neerim South
then in DIV2 they have
Catani
Longwarry
Buln Buln
Nyora
Lang Lang
Nilma Darnum
Ellinbank
Poowong
then whoever finishes bottom in div1 should drop down into div2 and whoever wins div2 flag goes up into div1 :) that seems alot easier then splitting the league

Corey they are both divisions but based on geography rather than ability. One's the East and the other is the West division.

The door is ajar to take change in a couple of years to run a relegation system but everything needs to settle a bit first. Let the league get the junior football structure working properly before relegation kicks in.

Rumours over the weekend that Lang Lang decided to fold at their AGM and that Gembrook are coming across. Surely these aren't on the money, not yet anyway?

There is definitely a club in discussions about joining the West, it's believed to be Gembrook. I think Lang Lang are hoping to switch to the East division.

Havent heard any news about lang lang.

I think Gembrook would be a good fit, travel isnt too bad up there. Emerald is another teams that could potentially join that league too.

This split of the league thus creating one 7 and one 8 team competitions is a classic case of a lack of communication and collaboration between neighbouring leagues. Football in Gippsland can be lot more simpler than it currently is, but if you don't have a vehicle to bring these leagues togather and discuss their issues, you are left with everyone running their patches in silos and participation and support becoming the victim. The new Gippsland Football board should have had this as priority number one on their agenda, but as they have felt their way through the early stages, they have watched the following:
  • The previously strong Ellinbank FL 15 team competition split in half
  • Alberton FL begin to lose a team (Yarram) and teams to the east of the comp get weaker while the teams closer to Melb get stronger.
  • North Gippsland have Yarram forced on them by appeal
  • East Gippsland have Stratford come in and extend travel time out for their comp
If a strategic position was introduced within the first six months of this board being formed and broadcast to the rank and file participants and supporters, then we would have an understanding of where footy in our area is headed. From my perspective I currently see a Lord of the Flies - type arrangement where clubs committees are dictating to leagues what they want to do and then the leagues bowing to it. I thought the introduction of the board was going to give us stronger governance. All I can see happening at the moment is the Gippsland Football board working to fix the mess that occured in the first 18 months on their watch.

Football in Gippsland is a mess and it is not because of the Ellinbank League. It began when Garlfield and others kicked Beacy and Paky out of that league, which was the beginning of the end of the strong West Gippy league. The flow on effect meant the smaller EDFL clubs could not compete witht the bigger WEst Gippy clubs and the Alberton league had it issues first with Wonthaggi and now with extra travel and stronger clubs Phillip Island and Killy Bass in the East.

Also the contant want to top up the Gippy League hasnt helped with clubs like Warragul, Wonthaggi and Bairnsdale all moving in and out of the league in the last 12 years.

I stand by a suggestion I made on this forum four years ago:

3 Leagues -
First league - West Gippsland - Cockatoo Gembrook, Garfield, Bunyip, Longwarry, NNS, NNG, Ellinbank, Buln Buln, Dusties, ND

Reasoning - Silvan just got accepted into the EFL leaving YVMDL with an uneven number in their first div. Gembrook is 17km from the Princes Hwy. All teams all not far off the Princes Hwy

Second League - South West Gippsland - Tooradin, Nyora, Poowong, Catani, Cora Lynn, KWR, LL, KB, PI, Dalyston.

Reasoning - All not too far from Sth Gippy/ Bass Hwy, stopping at Wonthaggi. 11 teams in the CCFL, Taking Tooradin out would eliminate Bye.

Third League - South Gippsland - IK, Korumburra, Tarwin, MDU, Stony, Fishy, Toora, Allies, Foster, Yarram.

Reasoning - All these guys are happy to play each other. Basically follows Sth Gippy Hwy from Burra to Yarram, Tarwin and Invy 20 min off it.

This leaves Wonthaggi and Bairnsdale to come into the Gippsland major football league, playing their home and away games against each other in the valley thus providing an avenue for players to play at a high standard and represent their region in Gippsland.

All byes eliminated, no mergers, no big travel (apart from the clubs & populations who are willing to), will probably never happen.

hmm have you guys recruited anyone bay3andaquarter?
well in your side of the league i think it will be Dusties,Longwarry, and Nyora that will be good
but on the other side it will be Garfield,Bunyip,Cora Lynn and Nar Nar Goon who will all be in contention for flag in 2014

why are they doing that?
are they no good in the league there currently in
Gembrooke have just been relegated from YVMDFL div 1 to div 2. There opponents in Div 2 include Yarra Junction (30mins), Seville (35 mins) and Powelltown (45mins), the closest three, and then teams such as Yarra Glen (1hr), Yea (1.5hrs), King lake (1.5hrs) and Alexandra (1.75hrs). That's a hell of a lot of driving. Should they come into our west division they'd play Bunyip (35min), Garfield (32mins), Nar Nar Goon (26mins), Cora Lynn (34min), Catani (43 mins), Koo Wee Rup (39mins), and Lang Lang (48 mins). Huge difference. It would also strengthen the league as they are an excellent club, and as they are also within Cardinia Shire it makes sense.
