We all acknowledge that our side lacks quality midfielders and defenders, but another area I think we need to address is our current lack of "enforcers" or "hard men".

When I say enforcers, I'm not talking about hitmen or snipers, just blokes who have a really physical presence, can lay a body on someone, split a pack open and generally intimidate the opposition.

I look at the good Carlton teams of the past and we were loaded with them. When I look at our list at present, I really can't see anyone who fits the description.

Livingston, Thornton, Whitnall, Fevola & French are hardly an intimidating spine in my book.

Fevola is the only one who is reasonably close, but that's only because he is unpredicable. Waite tries to throw his body around, but he not quite the enforcer I think we need.

Where are the E.Spalding's, P.Dean's, F.Brown's etc.....?

Anyone else agree we're missing this element in our list?

we are soft.

But when you look at a side like the Bulldogs you couldn't name an enforcer in their team. They just run the opposition off their feet.

I agree with you though but they also need to play very good football as well.

Bulldogs are on similar path as West Coast,
with big straight ahead space clearers like Minson and Hahn.
Always makes a midfield look good when they can run through the corridor,
we don't.

Minson, Hahn & Harris do the job nicely for them I would have thought.

A bloke by the name of A Hamill would be nice to have around as an enforcer....thanks Mr Elliot!!!!!!!!!!!

Elliot is to blame for a lot of things but Hamill left for MONEY.

Spot on ROK. A former Carlton premiership player told me that the club offered Hamill a 3 year contract for $990,000 with a bigger increase to come in the next contract and St. Kilda trumped the deal by offering $1.5 for the same time after Hamil's lowlife manager Alison hawked him around for the highest bidder.

We can blame big Jack for many of our problems but the reality is that if Carlton had of offered Hamill the same money as the Saints did, he would still be playing for us.

The whole Elliot abuse excuse was just a way for Hamill and his management to cover up for the true reason why he left Carlton, which was MONEY, pure and simple.

Bring back Fraser "Dog" Brown!
Ah for the good ol' days.
Don't think he ever got a farewell either.
Probably my favorite player in the last 15 years.

Yeah I loved Fraser too..

Andrew McKay was another hard at the ball player that I love to watch. Had to EVERYTHING down back in our 2003 side.

Jarrad Waite likes hurting people and he does so often. I had a good laugh at the Port game a few weeks ago when Waite, after the ball ran over the bounary and his opponent was getting up off the ground, gave the Port player a nice shove in the guts to put him back down on his back when the umpire wasn't looking. :D He'll worry a few out there when he builds himself up a bit.

I've heard basically the same thing but without the figures. Hamill would be great to have around but you can't let players dictate to clubs no matter who they are.
Anyway with the injuries he's been carrying I hear StKilda are a bit concerned about the amount $$$ and length of contract they are locked in to with him.

Hamill was good, but always seemed to have the attitude that he is bigger than the club....and if the Saints are paying him that much, well if he wins them a flag through his own efforts it will be worth it, but I doubt he will.
He is good, but not THAT good.
:p

But his physical efforts are his earner,
only have to look at his hit on Akermanis tonight,
to see his role,
and that is what this club is missing.
