AFLW Erin Phillips is home!

The crows supporters that I know and have some smidgen of an interest believe that we are getting an Erin way past her prime and was hardly a feature in their wins this year. They might be right.
She was the difference in a couple games against top opposition, and clearly still among their best few across the entire season (finished 4th in the club B&F despite missing a match). But it does help to have two teammates getting 24 touches per game, and her body held up much better than in 2021.

She averaged 17.2 disposals & 0.7 goals this year. In her two best years she managed 20.0 & 1.3, and 21.4 & 1.2 (only one other player has achieved 20-and-1 for a whole season). The numbers are a pretty good indicator in this case.

The club need to move heaven and earth to get her in the PBs at least once.
I would bet money on it being worn, albeit with members' names down the front of it, later this year.

In fact I'll go so far to predict it'll be Saturday 4pm-ish, 27 August, Adelaide Oval. Round 1, Port Adelaide v Adelaide.

Erin Phillips, Juliet Haslam, Rachel Sporn and Anna Meares as club ambassador, we just about have the biggest names in SA for women's sport stiched up for the club.

Off the top of my head only Marjorie Jackson Nelson comes to mind who has an international/Olympic (+ Erin's AFLW added to her basketball record) career, as prolific as these 4 women who live in SA.

None have more than Juliet's, Anna's and Marjorie's 2 Olympic gold medals. Can't think of any who have 2 world championship titles in the high profile sports.

But I'm sure I have forgotten one or two others.

The late Gillian Rolton probably would also make the list joining these 5. She won 2 Olympic golds in the 3 day team event equestrian events and created 1 of 6 annual International Eventing competitions on the world circuit to SA. I don't know who she supported in the footy, but I know Lockhart Road helped turn her brother into a Port Adelaide fan.

All that matters is she is home back where she belongs, if she can put in a season or two it's all a bonus, she will no doubt always be involved with Port Adelaide in some capacity,

We certainly had a solid day's media coverage from the announcement.

As an aside I was watching an old episode of Anh Do's Brush with Fame tonight featuring Lauren Jackson and Erin popped up in some old basketball photos with Lauren.

Let's hope that she entices other good players to come and join her. I'm hoping that there are good players that have agreed to sign with Port but we wanted to announce Erin as our first.

It's very cool that by the quirks of time and place she's 37 and still a very solid link back to "getting into Jack Cahill's huddle for a rev up".

Just so "right".

Imagine finals round bye, Rd 1 AFLW 26th August, Friday Night at AO, Port home showdown game 40,000+ and as someone suggested on radio, Erin at CHF vs Chelsea Randall at CHB.

7 might actually show a showdown nationwide with no other Friday night competing against it.

An article in the paper this morning about Port having a long chat to 2022 draft eligible Xavier Duursma's younger sister.

Apparently she will nominate as an SA draftee, presumably with the hope of getting to Port.

It's behind the Murdoch paywall, but saw this snippet

Not only will Erin Phillips star for the Power in their first AFLW season, she may also be involved in the men’s program.

Sounds like Erin will be joining the men's coaching team.

What a shame this didn't happen 6yrs ago makes me sick her and Scotty Hodges best yrs were spent at the swamp.
At least the crows recognised the all star quality of Erin and allowed her to play to her full potential - and reaped the rewards accordingly

The spiteful treatment of Hodges under Cornes and his shunning by club management, certain players and the majority of supporters was shameful.
