Obviously its Geelong's prerogative to keep their contracted player, but it continues a pattern of them being absolute sticklers at the trade table that never bow to player trade requests and always hold clubs over a barrel where ever they can. Even on the odd occasion they've had someone of value want to leave they kicked and screamed for two years until WCE finally overpaid for Kelly.

Must be nice to be such campaigners and not have to worry about players being disgruntled or fearful of being held to ransom.

Coming from a biased position, but I think it's pretty poor to retain a 24 year old player who you don't consider in your best 22 when they request to move. Especially when he is behind SDK, Stewart and Henry/Kolodblahblah and all those guys are youngish.

And the deal on face value is fair.

I'd be asking for a contract extension next week. Required player means 'required'. He could be done as a player by this time next year if he doesn't get AFL games.

That's why it''ll happen "We love you Esava" doesn't cut it if he's stuck in the VFL again most of next year, regardless of their other dealings I think Chris Scott will make it happen.

The offer for Esava might be fair, but Geelong have every right to retain him for insurance purposes alone. They had a great run with injuries this season, next year they might not be so lucky.

Honestly from the little I have seen of him he looks more like a forward than defender.
I’d rather leave it for the draft as there is a couple that might be around at 33.
We need a real defender not a made up one.

I don't care if he plays fwd or back. If anything, I'd just want someone on the wing to take a contested mark to link up play to our forwards. I'd much prefer Esava to compete for those marks than Lycett.
