Sorry to intrude, just interested in your thoughts on Duursma and his role in your team 2024 and beyond?

IMO, Duursma for Rata makes sense. Duursma is surplus to Ports needs, Rata is surplus to Geelong's needs. Rata was incredible for us during the year. He was only pushed out of the team when Jack Henry and Sam de Koning were healthy.

I can see Rata slotting straight into your best 22 in 2024 and playing a significant role. Believe it or not, he was best few players for many of the early rounds when he was our sole big defender.

If we didn't have SDK on our list, Rata would have been offered a long-term deal on generous money.

I can see why you would be hesitant to trade Duursma, but seems like a win-win for both parties.

Been injured for a large chunk of the year but he's cooked. Will be 30 at the start of next year and has not been able to establish himself as a starting 22 player over the last 3 seasons.

They've needed to get a KPD for a few years. Now with Jonas retiring and Clurey on the out with McKenzie on his last legs and Aliir entering the final year of his deal, getting Esava will be a good get. Whilst I'm not enamoured with him as a player he's a clear upgrade on what the Club has in that space and his style does fit the way Port's defence is structured.
IDK. With a decent preseason, he would be way better option than Jonas ever was. If we miss the Rat, then Clurey could be a surprise packet next year. Especially when he knows his time is short.

His role in 2024 and beyond will be 'not playing for Geelong'. Thanks for dropping by.

What is the deal with Clurey? Lost form? Injured? Hinkley patsy?

Perfectly decent footballer who happened to be entirely the wrong fit if you’re already picking 188cm Jonas and 191cm McKenzie.

Would have been fine playing next to taller key defenders just a bad match here.

He will be decent depth who can come in and fill a role for someone.

Duursma is a starting winger for us. If anyone is surplus to needs, it's Bonner.

I've been watching footy a very long time and its honestly hard to think of another Duursma. He plays a role nobody else can or does play. When he is up and running its like you have an extra player at every stoppage, an extra forward every time you go inside 50, an extra defender every time you need an act of desperation.

He really hasn't been consistently at his best for years, which is a scary thing to say about a 23 year old, but he isn't surplus to our needs because he isn't surplus to any team's needs.

If we're talking surplus needs, Bonner for Ratugolea is much closer to the mark than Duursma.

Around the same age (25/26) and played the same amount of games (mid-70s). Have both shown promise at times and have some deficiencies, and now find themselves still as fringe players, who should be looking for other opportunities to progress their careers.

Of course, Bonner is a free agent so wouldn't be part of this. But they're closer to similar positions in their career.

Esava looked decent early on this season for the cats. Far better than McKay. He'll be playing in front of a far better and quicker midfield than the cats had this year. He's 100% better than our no.1 who's likely suiting up on Saturday night. Get him in.

However, anyone who thinks he's worth more than Allir or Finlayson for e.g., both of who got done for a second rounder, is ****ing nuts.

This is a guy who is out of contract, has wanted out two years in a row and isn't first choice for a non finals team. Third rounder or a swap for a fringe crumb.

same age, same income, same super contribution.

You can’t convince me this isn’t a wind up

How about taking Bryn Teakle, he is a absolute superstar will lead Geelong to multiple premierships.

Duursma is surplus to Ports needs,
Wing is a list weakness of ours right now. We allowed Amon to walk, and have struggled to find a replacement. Our game plan has evolved to be more direct this year and avoid our wings a bit, but for us to be serious we need a winger to step up next year and realistically Duursma is our best chance for that. It wouldn't make sense that he moves on.

Duursma is not for sale or trade. 😁
Has a huge ceiling and we haven't seen the best of him yet.
Not convinced on Rata at all.

No doubt Jonas is terrible now, but fortunately the coaching staff have kept him largely out of the side when the back line is at full strength.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest after 10 years in the league that things would suddenly click for Clurey to make him a surprise packet next year.

Ratugolea will get done this time round. Zero doubt about it.
