Like many I'm lukewarm on Ratugolea, he is the right size to be worth a try but he hasn't shown anywhere near enough to be worth a swap for Duursma, and if a late draft pick can't get it done I hope the club looks elsewhere.

The contract and dollars are irrelevant in an age where absolute spuds pull in 400-500k a year, Lycett out the door, Jonas off the books, Dixon on reduced coin etc. you have to spend it somewhere.

We aren't trading Duursma. It's just media heads trying to generate clicks by saying that a former first round pick could possibly be on the move. If we were trading Xavier it would be for someone like De Koning, not Ratugloea.

We have draft picks 37, 43, 72, Geelong have pick 7 and 81.

We have a reasonable draft hand, so we could get Esava for our third/fourth round pick.

Geelong have retired Ceglar and Smith, and delisted Menagola so may need be hitting the trade period harder.

I think the deal can get done if we want it.

We will hear all sorts of ridiculous trade scenarios, the children on this forum will overreact and call for the heads of everyone involved, then we will get a deal which will be decried as overpaying.

Then in 12 months we will look back on it all and say, that was pretty well done actually.
