Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Unfortunate for us, certainly.

I guess the only silver lining is the next eleventy hundred drafts are also super drafts.

The only draft stronger than any given year’s draft crop is the next one.

At least next year's draft is stronger than 2020 when you last had multi picks i suppose.

I thought Dodoro was gone?

Horrible for Essendon

Be pretty depressing being as mediocre as Essendon and the club defer the hopes and dreams a top 10 draft pick brings.

Given Melbourne finished 14th this year they have more upside than down side as well. They could get the softest fixture of all time and bounce and make finals. Essendon hold all the risk in the proposed deal for not much reward.

Seen them play this year? Are they magically getting a key forward from the money tree? Have they replaced Goodwin? Signs weren’t fantastic the year prior too. This deal isn’t horrid basically has deferred their pick 9 to next year Mel come similar to that at most and added some swaps this year to match Kako

You’d bet this deal also “unofficially” included the Dees not bidding on Kako.

If Saints also don’t that’s taking Kakos points to match from pick 6 (aprox 1800-10%) to pick 10 (1395-10%)

That plus an aging list and the tension of two mids that don’t want to be there (Oliver + Trac) you can see why EFC would be most interested in betting against the Dees next season of the likely available options

As in the hopes of a McGrath? Or Cox? Or Reid? Perkins? Tsatas?

Those “dreams” are well and truly dashed haha.

They will get a bottom 6 draw (top 6 this year) - if they get 6 games V Tigers, Roos and WCE they could easily go up - not down.

Yep. It is the yo yo era of AFL. There will be a few teams that will finish top 8 regardless and a few teams that will finish bottom 4 regardless but for everyone in between the way they do the fixturing makes a massive difference. Geelong bounced off that this year and I would expect we will fall based upon it next year. Then bounce again the year after. Yo yo.

Yep - Hawks in 2024, GWS in 2023 and the Pies in 2022. All got the bottom 6 bounce into finals.

Roos will improve won’t be shocked if they split those games. WCE at least at home won’t be pushovers

I imagine both Melbourne and St Kilda, who were both chasing pick 9, were telling Essendon they were going to bid on Kako to push Essendon towards a trade.

Good work from Melbourne to get the deal done.
But why not wait until the night and trade back if a bid came? Thy could have got the same deal or Kako and a top 9 player?

Pretty much means it doesn’t matter where the bid comes even if it is at 6 (high end) you’ve banked two seconds, you wil have a live pick (around pick 40) which will go up with the bids probably ends at pick 34 ish.

Possibly the most depressing side in the competition

They take pick 9, what are they matching with only have pick 31.

Feel the ideal world was trading Stringer for a second and then they could have done both but he’s looking likely staying or going for a junk 4th

You don't HAVE to take the academy/father son player. If someone bids before 9 you can always just let them go and take someone else instead. A few clubs have screwed it up trying to get too greedy. North YOLO trading for Polec when they were getting Tarryn Thomas for cheap.

Oh 100%

But also Of the teams that missed the 8 who would you most like to bet against next season? Not including Richmond and West Coast who are still deep in their rebuilding phase.

Freo - adding Bolton and possibly baker
Collingwood - adding Perryman maybe Houston
Gold Coast- young list getting older + Rioli, Nobel, Lombard
Adelaide- pick 4, ANB +
North- growth of FRPs + Parker, Darling and possibly Daniel/Houston
Saints- lost battle. 2 top 10 picks to replenish talent and we’re a pretty good transition team by the end of the year.

Melbourne - have big talent but also big issues.

All things considered I think the smart play is to bet against the Dees

Because Melbourne would have told Essendon that they would be bidding on him.

Now instead of waiting until draft night amd having to match a bid at pick 6, they have their points ready to go and a bid won't come until later (presuming a deal was done for Melbourne not to bid as part of the deal) saving them more draft capital.

Clearly Essendon would get picks 28 and 40 also in this deal as the minimum . I’d also expect they know Demoms will bid on Kako at 5 and preventing that alsp

Demons likely to finish bottom 8 again really so pick 9 for pick 9,28,40 and then extra points saved in Demoms not bidding on Kako and St Kilda doing it instead is basically a 1500 pt gain

What? They have Pickett and not going to bid pick 5 on a player worth 10 - 15.

I would love to play poker with Rosa - so easily bluffed.
