Essendon players mother remains a mystery - H/S 24/6

On this we can agree.

My next question is, why is this not a league wide investigation and just Essendon? According to the AFL itself, "The supplements survey also found that 12 clubs conducted programs with medium or high levels of supplement use and lacked "a single point of accountability".

So, going by what you just said, there's a pretty good chance you should be furious at your own club's lack of record keeping and governance.

Jesus, if you can't see the difference between "an environment that could lead to rule breaches" and "an environment that did lead to rule breaches" you're beyond help.

What an absolute pathetic individual. Essendon fans DESERVE to know, who the **** does he think he is.

Who was behind the anonymous call that forced Essendon to capitulate to the AFL at the height of the stand-off last year? Help us find "Sarah" to uncover the truth.Essendon supporters deserve to know. Who was the mystery "mother of an Essendon player" who made the emotional outburst on radio just as Essendon and its coaching staff were preparing to fight the AFL and its extraordinary penalties over governance issues at the Club.

**** me. Is anyone stupid enough to swallow this shit?

The Sarah talkback was AFTER Essendon backed down. '

The Sarah talkback was primarily concerned with James Hird's egocentric ME ME ME statement after the backdown.

This campaign is seeking to fund a reward for information leading to the positive identification of "Sarah". The identification can be made anonymously and confidentially. The campaign organiser will enter into appropriate confidentiality arrangements, and settle the exact terms of what is required for a positive identification. (In the unlikely event that "Sarah" does turn out to be the mother of an Essendon player, the identity will be kept completely confidential).

All pledges (minus only the mandatory deductions of this site) will go towards the reward offered to an informant. If no positive identification is made, the pledges will be refunded (less mandatory site campaign fees if any).

And here we have it. Pretty much a Nigerian email scam.

Personally much prefer the (legal) one back in the old days where some bright spark put an add in all the soft weekly T**ty mags saying This is absolutely your last chance to send $10 to PO Box (whatever it was). And made a killing.

Rubbish. After a 17 month investigation it still isn't established whether the rules were in fact breached. But the penalties for poor governance were handed out some 10 months ago.

From what I understand there was only a couple of Essendon players on the list who fit the sons description and apparently it was neither of their mums. However, as many have pointed out, she has no reason to come forward and confess. If she was able to lie about her sons identity then who knows what else she was lying about?

Maybe she fabricated her sons details so that the EFC smear campaign/nutjob supporters couldn't track down? I mean what's the point of remaining anonymous if you then reveal details which make you easily identifiable? Or maybe one of the parents who denied it was lying for the same reason they chose to be anonymous in the first place?

I'm not saying it proves it was genuine but it doesn't disprove it either and the whole thing of "why bring it up now" is the real issue. Robbo mentioned this very same thing on 360 last Thursday about how "it's all propaganda", "we're in a war" and mentioned about the mother phoning up. Obviously someones put it back into his head again to try and muddy the waters and use it as a diversionary tactic and/or rally the troops (EFC supporters) by showing how victimised they've been the whole way through.

Given there are only a few mothers it could be you wonder why Robbo didn't actually get off his arse and interview the mothers and solve the case, rather than putting forward an uneducated opinion.

That may have involved an alcohol free day afternoon.
Robbo prefers the drip feed from Essendon rather than actually having to be an actual journalist on this.

It's not that it doesn't matter if it is made up. The point is;

1) No one has any evidence it is made up. It is just an assertion because the person has remained anonymous (and with good reason! Can you imagine the smear campaign/abuse in the streets from nuffies this person and her son/family may be subject to if they were to reveal their identity)

2) It is a diversion from the real story which is an (alleged) team wide doping program in the AFL the lieks that our sport has never seen - the validity or otherwise of this person doesn't matter in regards to this story yet some (including the author) are trying to use it as another way to try and muddy the waters and point to the EFC being the subject of a dirty tricks campaign. Whether that is the case or not is irrelevant to the fact of whether or not EFC and it's players are guilty of using prohibited substances.

1) The issue is that Eddie is now coming out and claiming a complete different set of circumstances surrounding the call. Originally, he told us all that it was a player's mother, now he's claiming he didn't. He's claiming she was just a caller and he didn't know what she was going to come out with. Everything else, as far as this 'who the mother was' issue is irrelevant. The point is, this sets a VERY dangerous trend for future controversies. Right now we have possibly fake callers being put on air by members of the boys club who claim to be related to players involved. Next it will be fake evidence provided to prove a case... Oh wait, that's happened too. You're basically condoning anyone planting evidence on you because they think you're guilty. If you're happy with that, and all that implies, I truly fear for the future of the world.

2) Oh really???

The investigation into the rule breaches has completed, now the trial needs to happen. Guilt will be proven soon enough.

The penalties for "poor governance" were the agreed penalties, have no doubt the AFL knew there was more than just "poor governance" going on at EFC. Besides all the other factors which are public knowledge just have a read through the AFL charge sheet against Essendon to see why they were subject to penalties whereas other clubs weren't.

Again you have no evidence this person isn't legit. You are using her anonymity as proof of her fraudulence which is ridiculous.

Haha, yep really despite the efforts of the EFC, it's mouthpieces in the media and it's supporters to sling mud at others.

Nup. Not even close.

Hanke is a paid liar and organiser of liars. He once boasted that in an election campaign 70% of stories about the ALP on a given day were planted by his office in Liberal HQ.

Don't be in any doubt that the pet journalists "breaking" news that is pro Essendon are fed by him or his successor.

Thing about Caro is that the motivations of anyone you could suspect of pulling her strings have changed several times over the journey. But Caro's core stance on the story has been remarkably constant.

At least we can agree that IH is a scumbag. But either him, or someone very like him, is still working the narrative for Essendon.

He is a dick of the highest order. Caro is also continuously spinning shit from her thortheth to push an agenda. You're not so stupid as to not see that.

The only players "nearly 21" at the time of the call.

1. Alex Browne who had just turned 21 on Aug 6th. Just that week his father had come out on telly defending the club.

2. Ariel Steinburg rookie listed player who turned 21 on August 26. His parents live in Bendigo.

3. Merrett Jackson turned 21 in Jan this years. Essendon drafted his brother of course and Thompson has said a few times the most appealing thing about them is their family.

4. Elliot Kavanagh turned 21 in May this year. His dad basically draft tampered to get to Essendon by refusing to let his son interview with interstate clubs and being rude to Norf.

So the only player it could possibly be is Steinburg. He is very much on the fringes and that could see him a little depressed about work. However, his mother lives in a seperate town than him and she spoke of a boy who lives at home. The fact that there was only really one mother it could possibly means that the club could just speak to her and tell if it's her voice.

The actor who did the call stuffed up by putting facts like that into the lie.

How deep does this rabbit hole go? Did Demetriou hire the actor (actress)?

Yeah because she was so dumb that she gave out the exact details of her son, because she knew Essendon would not try and figure it out.

If you are going to make an anonymous call, you are going to mask some things.

I really can't believe people are defending a fake 'Sarah' based on the sentiment expressed being what a mother would feel.

That's a wild assumption.

If she was an act & Ed knew it then it's really inexcusable behavior from him. Not surprising but he should be called out on it.

If he was in on it, he would have to stand down as Pies president or we are no better than Essendon.

Doubt he was in on it as what does he get out of it apart from a mention in other media outlets? The party that benefited was the AFL as it helped to get Essendon to the negotiating table.

Is this the evidence that EFC fed Robbo?
1 Dad came out defending the club - Well we can rule out he is not Sarah. What about his mum?
2 Bendigo is only about 1hr from the edge of town. Not exactly other side of the country
3 Bomber saying how good a family the Merrets come from suggests this is the most likely source. It is not as if they chose EFC and fail to see how a quality family would be happy with their boys being shot up with experimental drug.
4 We can rule out Kavs dad as well. Though this was his position prior to coming to the experimental drug environment. His mums view on the saga?

EFC would be hoping ASADA are applying a high level of evidence when determining their fate.

Yeah because a genuinely distraught mother would think on the spot to give a false age to throw the scent. I can't believe people on here would think that that call was genuine. I know you guys get caught up in the echo chamber here but those involved with Essendon don't think Hird was making it all about himself when he was responding to comments made to him and claims made about him. Nor would anyone with half a brain consider that "not for human consumption" would appear on any labels.

I don't want to point the finger at a media outlet or the AFL. I actually think the most likely is someone for the hell of it.
