LOL a lot of high hopes in that team. I highlighted the ones I thought were gonna be 200+ game players. Boy was I wrong :D

Yeh fair point, however one good year doesn't earn a spot in our best team over the last 13 years imo.
No, well he didn't get a spot in my team either. But honestly, that 6th defender position is a tough one.

You know what I was just thinking that and believe or not I really struggled to find a player to replace him lol.

I came up with a few alternatives

Sean Wellman
Paul Barnard
Chris Heffernan
Justin Blumfield (I know he's not a back flanker but would have him in b4 Mcphee)

I had Wellman as CHB anyway, I ended up going with Rama as the 6th defender.

Wellman's in the side and I'd have McPhee ahead of the others comfortably. He played 142 games with us, won a Crichton, averaged 17 touches, 6.7 marks, and was quite comfortably one of our best players this century

Oops yeh just realised Wellman was already in. I disagree re McPhee though his stats don't tell the full story, very fumbly, inconsistent and predictable. I don't think he was a terrible player or our worst in that era by any means but just never rated him that highly. Just my opinion.

This actually surprises me. I would have guessed he was around the 70-80 game mark with us.

I still have Rama ahead of him, just because Rama is a top bloke and McPhee dogged us.

He played 7 seasons with us. I thought he was over 150 for us actually

por que no los dos?

Soloman-Fletcher-Hardwick
McPhee-Wellman-Ramanascus

I have Adam because he also played on talls

Mark Johnson deserves a place ahead of all bar Fletcher and Wellman in the back line. Super player, one of the players from the early 00's we have never replaced IMO.

Guy is a mega troll, starts threads such as "YO Essendon - why you so shit??" and "96 reasons why Essendon are the worst top 8 side in AFL history...". I know it's Bay 13 but i wouldn't give him any oxygen even when he's being legit.

wow, ive posted this on most clubs' forums already and not one other forum thought i was being a troll, or questioned what an asterisk symbolises in footy.... Im glad theres at least 1 or 2 posters on here who were able to be helpful and I thank you for that. Just shows where your state of mind is at as a club really.

ps. for those wondering, it's for a book due to be released in 2015 for which I am one of the contributors.
Fair enough mate, however,
get yourself an Essendon alias and try posting on the Carlton board and see what happens, just saying,
Plus go back and watch the videos of Michael Longs year in 2000, the greatest ever premiership team and get Mcphee out and you have my vote...Also Blumfield was outstanding that year. Edges out Pev for mine, premierships get extra points for mine.......

2. Would seriously consider Hibberd for Welman as Welman was really more of a counterattacking tall than a key defender and he is clearly behind Hurley and Carlisle as a stopper. Wellman selected on sheer weight of numbers.

I could not disagree more. Wellman was a brilliant key defender. Him & Fletch would take the number #1 & #2 key forwards and towel them up. I can remember thinking in back in 2000 & 2001 that I hadn't seen such a dominant defender since A Daniher in the form of one "not-a-well-man". When and if I see Hurley or Carlisle dominate in a premiership season like Wellman did, I'll consider them equals to the great man.

No, Wallis was the fodder for the other key forwards. Wellman could do jobs but was more of tall back flanker whose real value was his exceptional reading of the play to set up attack from defence.

Matthew Allan and Mal Michael are unlucky to miss out.
