Baby Bomber to lead rucks
By Catherine Murphy 9:32 AM Tue 19 August, 2008

ESSENDON coach Matthew Knights has confirmed that 18-year-old Tasmanian Tom Bellchambers will lead the Bombers' ruck division on Friday night against the Western Bulldogs, with both David Hille and Jason Laycock to miss the match.

Bellchambers has played one senior game for Essendon this season after being taken in the 2008 NAB AFL pre-season draft.

.....

"Tom is quite a solidly-built young man, but he is a development player who is 18 years old, so he is going to get a chance to ruck against a really good ruckman in [Ben] Hudson," Knights said.

...

"It's on a big stage against a good side so we have just got to wind them up to play good footy. We will potentially have to look at a few first-gamers, but we will take a look at them today and make a call."

Tom Bellchambers who has only played 40min of AFL at the highest level will apparently be leading the ruck division against the Bulldogs this weekend with Hille & Laycock out injured.

Looks like it will be a very, very one side match and if Hudson doesn't get BOG he may well hang his boots in shame.

yes, just when you thought you couldn't get any more injuries. shit could get hell messy on friday night. ah well, least we can see what the kid has got to offer

Pathetic title when it's his second game.

Poor Tom, he'll never survive having to ruck against Hudson and Minson.

What the hell has Kreuzer done as a first year ruck against bigger bodied rucks?

Hampson debuted against McIntosh last year and showed a bit.

Cloke beat Hudson. :)
Just wondering, is anyone from Carlton in trouble with the law this week?
Maybe you should worry about Akermanis getting a kick considering what he cost you in draft picks.
PS: Bellchambers > Ackland
That hurts when Ackland has been playing forward in the VFL and not the seniors.

If Tom is competitive we will most likely keep Paddy down back. Although the dogs aren't overly tall so Mal and NLM should do okay.

Good luck to Tom - has a real chance provided to him to impress.

Tom definitely has a chance to impress, but will be difficult because he is not ready for senior footy just yet.

Going to be a long night. I guess we will see how the kids go. A taste of the future with so many bigger names missing. I don't mind it. It's not like we will be playing finals so if injuries dictate that we're likely to lose by playing kids then so be it. It could be worse.
