That’s not true. We were only truly awful against the Dogs and Power (and maybe Richmond). Against the Lions, St Kilda and Freo were were more than reasonable except for those goddam awful first quarters (which we also had against teams we comfortably beat).

In some ways maybe it’s not a bad thing to be without Chad. Not from the perspective of being more likely to win (we’re not) but from the sense of whether something awoke in the whole team in that final quarter or whether it was solely the brilliance of Heeney that got us over the line. It wasn’t just that Heeney played a magnificent quarter. On its own that wasn’t enough. He was enabled to do that because other players started running and pressuring again.

We know this team has it in them to play the kind of football that can deliver a flag. But if that’s to happen we need the likes of Lloyd, Florent, Campbell, Jordon and Cunningham to start running the way they were three months ago. They did in the last quarter last week. Will they keep doing it?

(Sadly JMac was one of those who most exemplified the running, and we’ll have to do without him for a little while longer. )
fwiw I've been of the view that Jmac is THE best winger in the comp for about the last 12 months and it is his running that creates space for a lot of players.

I'm often amazed at how little recognition he gets

John Kreese and Johnny Lawrence say hi.
If Shiel had just one half of Johnny’s psychopathic urge to compete and willingness to take the hits, he’d be superstar.

When I think about the sheer and utter disappointment of trading in Dillsy all those moons ago and witnessing the dismal results of his Essendon performances, I tend to go my happy place and imagine cuddling up to Elizabeth Shue beside a fire on a sandy Californian beach..drinking Bacardi breezers all summer night long.

It's beyond me how Campbell and Cleary are in before Sheldrick , oops he's not academy
Cleary had a better game in the VFL the week before he came in.

Campbell should be tried either up forward or in the mids (his drafted positions), but otherwise not quite the same type. He was playing as a small defender a bit on the weekend, gets given bit parts at half back and on the wing.

In any case, the question is why others who are out of form or unfit, are getting games over Sheldrick.

Complacency is the enemy tonight.
Essendon will come after us, they'd like nothing better than a scalp to brag about in the off season.
Give us 4 quarters boys.

Hope the 1st quarter is finals like intensity. Essendon must win game & swans wanting to build on last game 4th quarter. Who makes most of their opportunities?

TMac on Weidemann
Melican on Langford
Rampe on Caddy
Mills on Stringer

Or have Mills on Caddy, Rampe on Stringer.

If Horse refuses to play Mills in defence and Florent or Blakey have to go one-on-one with a decent forward, then it's a coaching issue.
I'd be happy with Mills on anyone not in the midfield tbh.
Forent could be a better mix in the middle IMO, a bit more toe...couldn't possibly get less clearances than Mills the last two games...

I'd be scared of Mills vs Stringer. Would have to be Rampe I think. Just hope we can Blakey in an attacking role.
Gulden will need to fire with Chad out. Depending on who is sub, this could be a huge opportunity for Corey to fill the void of Chad with his run and carry.
I really do hope it's Adams. He could use at least half a game off tbh. And he's done SFA for the last 2 or is it 3 games...

Not if you win and live in Melbourne and can gloat all weekend

Yeah but having let’s say 6 schooners after work and having to watch us play the first quarter ahhhh

He's been behind the biggest space maker in AFL history in Sam Reid for a lot of his career to be fair.
Next year will be his rise to fame and fortune.

I don't think that there will be complacency, not after the embarrassment of the Bulldog and Port games. I posted earlier in the season that the real opposition the Swans will have is their thinking. I was pretty pleased with the last 15 minutes of the game last week as that sort of comeback builds a belief that anything is possible regardless of the situation. It wipes the negative thinking from Port type games out of memory when things are tight and could end up defining how we play in the finals.

Bacardi Breezers? Why would Elizabeth Shue want to cuddle a gay man? NTTAWWT, it's just not her thing.

I like the idea of him forward, though he lacks the physicality to be a defensive asset, I can see him getting the ball on the high half wing via kick or hand ball chains he is a part of and actually kicking it to the space our KPFs might want to lead into rather than just holding the ball up for 20 seconds then bombing it on their heads. This revolutionary concept to Horse however might see him put into the reserves very quickly.
