32.5 million for Benteke isn't fine. He's a good striker but it's the second highest transfer in the PL this season and that is a big problem. We're getting Pedro who's probably not quite as good for about half the price. Much smarter investment.
Er....what? How's it a big problem that we paid the second highest fee this window to bring in a quality striker that we desperately need? o_O

Pedro is a completely different player to Benteke. Pedro is more of a winger, whilst Benteke is a big target man. Poor comparison. Also 22 million isn't half of 32.5!

He's not 32.5 million quality. You're allowed to think it was a good price but it's fairly overpriced for me.

I read is was 18 million, which is close to half, but you may be correct.

The difference between 25 and 32.5 really isn't that much in this case. As I said before, we have shot ourselves in the foot many times by having that attitude of deciding a price and not being willing to go a little bit over. I'm glad that has changed this summer, another example being not messing around getting the Firmino deal done.

His release clause is €30m, so that's a touch under £22m.

Very tempted by lukaku, but pelle and sth in hot form.

So much uncertainty up fwd.... Rooney a lock.. but Costa inj, aguero not ready, lukaku doubts, benteke may be under done...

I like sakho down the price range but I'm going big! no 6.5 at the minute required.

Harry Kane?

how was Cortois a red?

clipped outside the box... cahill still covering..

yellow and pen . no red.

haviong an fpl mare by the way... wildcard looms
It was a very tough decision for the ref.
I can understand his decision since Courtois was the last man between Gomis and the goal (fractionally) when he made contact.
But would Gomis have an open goal if he got past the keeper? probably not because the defender would've covered. so yeah a yellow card would've been better.
Referee Oliver is one of the better ones but it was a harsh red card

He was worth more to Aston Villa than any of the teams that wanted to potentially buy him, Liverpool included. He was the main reason Villa have stayed up the last couple of seasons, so how much is that worth when you consider TV money etc? And seeing that they are the selling club, they can slap a high price on him (consider also they didn't really want to lose him), so if another clubs really wants him, they have to pay overs to get him. So Liverpool did.

Gomis is ahead of Cahill when he flicks the ball beyond Courtois, then slows up as he braces to be clattered. If Courtois doesn't clean him up, Gomis is inside the box with half a metre on the defender and an open goal. You can still have one player between you and the goal and have it deemed a goal scoring opportunity, and denying one of those is an immediate red.

But, to be a penalty I think it has to have been in the box, which lowers the 'opportunity' test. It's a super tight call - on the close angle you can see Courtois connects with Gomis' leading leg, and the wide angle suggests that was maybe just on the line.
