And the worst kept contract secrets are finally confirmed -

Geelong has locked away experienced trio and Premiership players Patrick Dangerfield, Mitch Duncan and Rhys Stanley.

Dangerfield will pull on the Hoops until at least the end of 2026, signing a two year contract extension, while Duncan and Stanley have both committed to the end of 2025.

Geelong’s captain since 2023, Dangerfield has played 337 AFL games, including 183 since joining Geelong from the Adelaide Crows at the end of 2015. He is set to reach 350 AFL games in 2025, becoming only the 25th player in the VFL/AFL to reach that milestone.

Currently on 296 AFL games, Duncan is set to become the seventh Cat to reach 300 games in 2025, joining Sam Newman, Jimmy Bartel, Ian Nankervis, Corey Enright, Joel Selwood and Tom Hawkins in the exclusive club.

A Premiership Cat in 2011 and 2022, Duncan played 22 games in 2024, showing his versatility and continual ability to play roles as required.

Joining the Cats after 58 games with St Kilda, Stanley made his way to Geelong in the 2014 trade period.

A Premiership player in 2022, Stanley celebrated his 200th AFL game and 150th Club game in 2024 and has been a reliable force in the ruck for the Cats over the last nine seasons.

General Manager – Football Andrew Mackie praised Dangerfield, Duncan and Stanley for their contribution to the Cats.

"Patrick, Mitch and Rhys have been strong pillars of our Club both on and off the field. Their commitment, leadership and motivation to continually develop themselves and our program has been exceptional,” Mackie said.

Good work. 2 for Danger right, still be impact player in 2026, even in cameos. Really good last 6 or so games by Stanley shows still can provide good ruck work, important while we develop next batch. Duncan was a little line ball IMO but with careful management will be an important player- important to our culture to give him a shot at 300.

I wonder if Danger would have baulked at a 1 year deal with a view..
Anyway, we have him until his very last game, which will be special.
His impact on our team from his very first game, and season, has been more than any single player I've seen come from another club (not including GAS - I can never regard him as an ex Hawk)over my 60 years as a supporter of this amazing club.

I personally would of liked the tradition continue with players in that age of Dangerfield with getting 1 year contracts.. Every player in the last 15 years kept doing a 1 year contract

Pretty questionable what he will offer playing wise at 36 but if the last year is a write off it doesn't really matter, bit of a top up after taking below market rate for the rest of his time with us.
