When characters powers (superheroes) are changed to be either nerfed or enhanced depending on what the scene requires

See: Multiverse of Madness

When the hero pushes their loved ones away to keep them safe only for those loved ones to die after:
  • chasing after them.
  • deliberately siding with the villains.
  • accidentally siding with the villains because the hero didn't warn them properly.

i think thats how superhero movies work. they live and wander around without showing their abilities then bang HELP HELP out comes the flying, wolverine claws, super strength.

Was Becker a genius? I seem to recall him being a barely competent GP (although he had a research partner who made a tonne of money at some point didnt he?)
Becker was a very good GP - it was kind of the running gag in the series. Someone so good at what they did preferred to help the poor in downtown NY.

Absolute ripper show by the way. Hugely underrated dark comedy. 10 Peach shows it daily and never fails to make me laugh.

I don't know if shows are kind of winking at these tropes these days, I was watching Umbrella Academy recently and a character appears to do a mighty fine job of cutting their hair with a shard of glass from a broken mirror. A pisstake, surely?

More a TV one but it is remarkable to see the number of people that verbally spell out every hidden detail of an issue either on the phone or to thin air - as the chief beneficiary of the information hovers just behind a closed door or standing in a doorway.

It's even more fun when the conversation is misunderstood and hijinks ensue!

Protagonist walks into a room where his or her new squad is assembled. Each member (each with their own gimmick) is introduced to the protagonist. Then a conversation about their upcoming mission takes place and they are all taking turns talking in a really unnatural way.

🤮

Partner hops into bed after sneaking in, person in bed apparently asleep and then opens their eyes…..

Someone’s in the house, let’s search for them in the dark without turning all the lights on….
To be fair on the second one there is usually a reason for the lights not being turned on. Power off, storm, fuse smashed etc.

When someone needs to hide superfast inside a room with only about 2.3 seconds before the authorities enter the room

Said person always manages to figure out a super good hiding spot and get there within said time limit

Sometimes the powers are reduced for no reason though

See Scarlett Witch in Mulitverse of Madness

Supposed to be the most powerful mutant out there, yet when the script calls for her powers to be nerfed because reasons, that's what happens

WW2 movies, nazis hunt Jews who hide in the cellar.
A well placed rug and a distraction sends the nazis away empty-handed.

Also American crime movies where the cops stand around arguing if they should ring the judge at 3am to get a search warrant.
