RE Dmac:
The AFL Player Ratings are irrelevant to Crows selection and the Rance example (above) is probably one of many that make the whole system spurious, at best.
Similarly, it doesn't matter what you, me, or this Board think about Dmac. I doubt that BF is even mentioned during selection. On the AFC site one of the Crows fitness staff was quoted as saying that Dmac "is fully fit and will be playing this week" (paraphrasing) which I took to mean in the AFL side. Not certain.
Like many of you, I'm mystified that underperforming players are selected, not just Dmac
eg JJ & Atkins who've both had a couple of howlers (but the Rat was hot last week!), also people are saying that Sloane was injured in Round 2, yet played another 2 games before it was addressed. In the weeks ahead, Dmac will p-r-o-b-a-b-l-y be retained ahead of CEY, Dots, the Gooch, maybe even Milera and others when Sloane, Betts, Brouch and Gibson (not sure if he will make our best 22) regain fitness, simply because Pyke and the selectors seem to regard Dmac as an integral part of our best 22 (watch for the melts when that happens). Later, who will we drop to get Smith back in? Not Doedee. If it's a choice between Smith and Dmac, I'd choose Smith every day, but the selectors will probably find a way to play both.
Dmac will be playing tomorrow night, the end. Selection is out of our hands, whether we like it or not.
I don't think there is much to complain about Mackay's selection this week. No one has been dropped, so he's basically beating out someone like Signorello or Wilson for a spot.

What I find funny is that some people are melting over the fact that he will be kept in the team once Sloane and Betts return. Fair enough, get upset about it if that happens. But have we really reached the point where we melt weeks in advance now?

I find myself an enigma on this one. Two years ago I was defending him. 12 months ago I was attacking him and now I am back to defending. Next year I fully expect to be pissed off about his new 10 year contract ;)

I'm not concerned about Dmack's selection this week. We're still missing so many. He was squeezed out a couple times last year, I think that he is earmarked for moving out of the rotations, but the replacements weren't better. That's changing now. I think that Douglas might be in the gun as well.

If we have everyone back fit for the finals then our team looks like this
FB: Brown, Talia, Doedee
HB: Laird, Hartigan, Smith
W: Seedsman, Gibbs, Atkins
HF: Knight, Walker, Lynch
FF: Betts, Jenkins, McGovern
R: Jacobs, MCrouch, Sloane
Int: Kelly, Milera, BCrouch, Greenwood

Means that our depth is:
Fogarty, Otten, Douglas, Mackay, Hampton, Gooch, Poholke, Gibson, Keath, CEY, Murphy

It's possible that Douglas stays at the expense of Knight. But I think that's a mistake.
It's a really good thing that we're getting games into the kids now, creates competition for spots.
Hopefully Smith makes it back this year.

God it will be nice if we have that team fit and up and running come the finals. In the mean time it’s great that the Gooch, Poholke & Fogarty are getting some games.

I would love for Smith to be back, but it Is a huge ask....both for fitness and form especially in the latter part of the year. Fingers crossed.

I don't think Douglas will get pushed out. I think Milera, Greenwood or Knight would all get pushed out before Douglas.

You are probably right. I'm making probably a few assumptions here on the organic growth of Knight and Milera I think Greenwood is ahead though.

I asked the same about Douglas and DMac at the start of the year. Douglas is staring his challengers down and DMac is running hard and training hard and making his challengers catch him

Yep and I think that the challengers are making their move.
What I'm also cognisant of is that we will have injuries and other things. Having those guys around for experience and depth is great. They also set the bar as in how good you have to be to displace them.

But have we really reached the point where we melt weeks in advance now?
Just watch ;).

:D I'm same, pretty much, and that's true of JJ and Atkins as well, whose inconsistent efforts drive me nuts. Around this time last year, I was a newbie and didn't get the anti-Dmac vitriol. I paid more attention and noticed his weaknesses more eg I hate it when he butchers the ball not under pressure, but that's true when anyone does it.
With the rise of Doedee, Dots, Galluci, Fogarty and Murphy, the inclusions of Gibbs & Gibson (if he ever gets fit) and the eventual return of Smith, is Dmac best-22?
Probably not, but if Pyke'n'Co keep picking him, they must think so. We'll see, I guess .

That's a very strong side with impressive depth, better than last year.
I think Greenwood is ahead though.
Not sure.
I think Douglas is ahead of Greenwood at this stage in terms of footy brains and effectiveness of disposal. Greenwood has plenty of rounds to improve, though, while Douglas is as good as he'll get now. I still have Greenwood's grab the ball low then 360-degree pirhouette to handball off (vs. the Saints?) in my mind. That's rare skill, such clean hands, reminds me of Porplyzia.

True

And yet being about 15th best seems bang on this season.

Most of his career he would have been about 20th picked. He has really lifted in his contract year!

This time I hope we take the pick and run.

A preemptive melt.
