Has this been decided before they've even played a game?

Bradley, Livingston, Laycock, Thorp, Meesen and Angwin were rated as top ten picks with athletic or football potential.

If we rate a mid higher, that's who we'll pick.

It won't cost us a flag if we find another good footballer.

TG, your reasoning is totally wrong, there would many mids drafted that have failed also, based on your logic no one would bother to draft a KPP for fear of failure, we will pick the best available whether that is a mid or a KPP remains to be seen probably in the hands of what other clubs actually do.

Totally wrong?

I'm for the best available.

You're for a KPP at any cost, so you'll make up an argument to draft one.

Even it's a reach.

Overlooking Marc Murphy for one of Clark, Dowler, Ryder and Kennedy because you plan to get a Swallow or a Vince with a later pick isn't a very strong argument.

It cuts both ways if you want to go tall early and draft for need.

Just look at the names I posted.

People point to the Dogs as an example of poor talls costing them a flag, yet there are clubs with good KPP (Brisbane and Essendon) who haven't played in finals for three to four seasons up until 2009. Perhaps they didn't have the gun midfields to get them up into the top four and win games against the very best sides. The Dogs beat Brisbane and nearly knocked off the Saints who had two key forwards inside fifty.

The Dogs are a top four side because they more class footballers than poor ones.

Would you prefer Travis Boak or Ben Reid if we have to chose from a midfielder and an athletic KPP with 12?

I'd rather draft the better footballer. :)

Our midfield isn't so dominant that we can reach and overlook a player we rate higher than the best tall. If they're hard to split, we still to need a marking half forward or a line breaking midfielder with speed. It's just KPP, KPP, KPP when opposition and some Carlton fans come up with phantom drafts.

They don't know that much about our list.

TG, you are wrong again, l am actually for best available regardless of type of player, you are the one coming up with all these options Moore, McMillan Pittard, virtually anyone who is not a KPP.
For the record the five that l rate are Lucas,Talia,Black, stevens and Tapscott, so clearly quite a mixture there.

But i have heard they want Carlisle.

According to someone with inside knowledge at the Dogs, our hit list is(in order of preference)
1 Melksham
2 Talia
3 Jetta
4 Sheppard
5 McMillan-Pittard

I personally would be happy with any of those at pick 15.

Excluding Talia.....strange list for the Dogs to have.

Excluding Talia.....strange list for the Dogs to have.

Why is that? Players who didn't play in September for us included:
Williams
Everitt
Tiller
Grant
Boumann
Roughead
Cordy

That's quite a few developing tall players, most of whom would be wanting a lot of opportunity from this year onwards.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a smaller, quicker player this year unless a tall we really rate is available. Our depth of smaller, run and carry players isn't as good as most people believe.

Not really. We do have quite a few young talls developing on our list already(Jones, Roughead, Cordy, Grant, Boumann, Tiller, Williams, Everitt and Mulligan). A more presing need is quick outside players, flankers and small forwards(and as with every draftee for the Dogs, they have to have good foot skills).

I'm surprised by Talia being on that list.

I have just heard from Perth that there is no way that Freo will overlook Moraib.
Apparently is clearly the 4th best player in the draft, and apparently Freo would be 'stupid' to overlook him.

I don't think he took into account the amount of KP youngsters you have on your list and did take into account the lack of KP players you had playing in 09.

However you would want those young guys to develop pretty quickly in the next couple of years hey?

Yes, we would(they all do look promising, so fingers crossed).

Dont go overboard in trying to evidence having sources... what you have put there is almost a direct quote from the newspaper on the weekend

Hey Faith and everyone else,

Do you think there is any chance of essendon getting Kane Lucas at Pick 10?

To me, i think he is the best fit in the whole draft for essendon

In my opinion i dont rate him in my top 16.
Thats just my opinion.
Id be surprised if he went at 10. There are a few players that are better than him and should be available at 10.

Interesting - looks like Fantasia will stick by the best available mantra.

Worsfold recently stated Eagles will take best available at pick 7.Will that still be Jetta?

It depends if their preference is tall or small.
Everything you hear is that WC will take Jetta with Lucas or Sheppard possibility.
In my opinion Jetta should be taken at 7. He is the best available and what they need.
