I dont think the bbl can ever reach its maximum potential/interest if the 2 Melbourne teams are garbage year after year. Its genuinely hurting the competition imo.

Told my son it was old after 30 seconds. Just stick with the Furnace theme.I will say at the match last night the Scorchers are playing up the Wild Wild West theme this year which got old very quickly (announcers with terrible cowboy accents, teams coming out of the tunnel through a saloon door). Even the kids were getting sick of it.
so we need to merge them and have one super stinky mega garbage team?I dont think the bbl can ever reach its maximum potential/interest if the 2 Melbourne teams are garbage year after year. Its genuinely hurting the competition imo.
In some ways I don't think there is enough movement. It's felt like for a decade now Perth have kept the same very successful pace attack. The Scorchers have lost a heap of players to other sides simply because they could not get a game.
Some move for money but not that often.
If you restricted players playing for their home state, there would be a lot of excellent players not getting a game.
Is it because there are too many you think ?The quality of all T20 comps has been trending downhill.
They're all West Aussies who are probably reluctant to move unless they get a huge offer that would tank that club's salary cap. The Sixers also built their attack off local NSW talent. In some ways I don't think there is enough movement. It's felt like for a decade now Perth have kept the same very successful pace attack.
I just don't understand why all these other teams just sit back and never try to poach these guys. Year after year its the same.
Why are these clubs not trying to weaken their rivals.
Bancroft was poached for more money. In some ways I don't think there is enough movement. It's felt like for a decade now Perth have kept the same very successful pace attack.

Coulter Nile as wellBancroft was poached for more money.
Pretty sure Smarsh went for a longer contract as well.Coulter Nile as well

The Victorian state team was a powerhouse short format team prior to the formation of the bbl. The early year Stars teams were quality that had the mcg rocking allbeit finals chokers, the Renegades even won one.so we need to merge them and have one super stinky mega garbage team?
Maybe because the novelty is wearing off?Is it because there are too many you think ?
T20 cricket is 20 years old. There have been 17 IPLs, we're on the 14th BBL (plus a couple of other tournaments prior to that), 9 T20 World Cups, etc, etc.Maybe because the novelty is wearing off?
The case study of Melbourne and the BBL is fascinating.
80,000 showing up for Stars vs Renegades back in 2016 at the MCG
The corresponding fixture last year had 27,000
That's a pretty big drop off.
Is it purely just the drop in international talent (Gayle/Pietersen in 2016) and the decline in performance from both teams?
Should not start till Boxing Day when schools have finished and more people on holidays. As mentioned before I am not a great fan of T20 but nothing on TV to watch and watched a bit of Konstas batting the other night and Harper last night. It would be great for the comp if they were better and got bigger crowds but I don't see the issue here at all. They are fitzroy and St Kilda the two Melbourne teams.
The Scorchers and the Sixers are the blockbuster teams and have been since the BBL started.
Why is this a problem?

Big Bash is a religion for me. I’ve travelled down from Sydney to Geelong tonight for the Renegades and Hobart. Cricket Australia doing the best they can with the hands behind their back. It doesn’t help when you have 3 concurrent leagues about to overlap with the BBL as well. Eg ILT20, SA20 and Super Smash going on at the same time.
I think the only way that will happen is if the television ratings drop
Money is a big factor for players. From memory the IPL owned SA20 and ILT20 are owned by IPL owners.Triple the salary cap and you will get better players coming.

A distinct window also doesn’t really solve the problem.
I struggle to think how BBL teams expand their salary caps given how much money is already paid. Thoughts $3,000,000 salary cap to squeeze 18 players who play around 10 games of cricket a season was plenty . Maybe I was wrong.
