Giles vs AD plus Boyd vs HW versus Jacobs vs GWS plus Adams vs AD?

50 + 130 versus 110 + 70. Tough choice.
A couple of noteworthy things regarding Jacobs this week which might help you make your decision (http://www.fantasyfootyclub.com/showthread.php?3173-Jacobs-Sam&p=247123&viewfull=1#post247123)
But Sanderson is conscious of not over-burdening Jacobs with the workload. "We still need to develop other ruckmen around him. We understand that it is an incredibly long season and very challenging keeping him fresh every week. We are managing his workload during the week and so far he is meeting every challenge we are putting in front of him.
"He won't do much this week after his efforts [against Port]."
With Big Sledge mentioning that we've got West Coast the following week where he'll come up against Cox and Naituani so it makes sense that we'll want to make sure he's more than ready for that challenge in a game that we'll need everyone at 100% to get a win rather than the up and coming match against GWS. With McKernan out for 6 weeks and Tippett a chance to miss having been concussed two times in the past three weeks (so a good chance to miss I'd say) meaning the only real ruck support Adelaide will be able to bring in for Jacobs is Jenkins. So whilst I expect Adelaide to let Jacobs take it a little easier this week, he will probably still have to do a decent chunk of the ruck work with Jenkins being his only real support.

Back on your figures, I'm not sure I'd be putting Jacobs down for a 110 since he's only got over the 100 mark three times this season and only once past the 110 mark which was his most recent score. If Giles and Jacobs scores from their last match up are anything to go off, I think I'd be going for the Boyd option over Jacobs this week.

Just my 2cents, either way, 1 trade left will ensure a fun ride to the finish line I'm sure!!

Dylan have you gone the whole year without Buddy??
Who else is loving the recent Buddy news? :D

Its only taken 15 rounds but he's finally going to miss a few matches that you can almost pencil him in to miss every year!

With Hargrave not making the cut last week with a number of senior players missing due to injury, I had to let him down lightly before making the trade:
253080_o.gif

I moved Hargrave > Yarran which saved a zero (due to Goddard and Spurr both missing) which gained me 94 points in the end. The reason I made this trade and not one during the bye rounds which could have also saved a zero was there is every chance Hargrave doesn't get named again this week (and when I need him as my D8 in the future) and with Goddard to miss again, bringing Yarran in had the potential to save me between 140-170 odd points which is perhaps looking bigger due to his big score against Collingwood. With Waters being a late out, I copped another zero bringing the year tally up to 18 zeroes but I still managed to move up 400 odd places to 888th overall.

Since Waters is going to miss 3-5 weeks I'll be moving him on this week (either Scotland or Birchall) which will leave me with 2 trades for the final 7 rounds which will only be used for LTI.

Not completely happy running into the final 7 rounds with only 2 trades but I believe my side has the ability to maintain strong scores whilst having key players missing matches so hopefully I'll be able to finish off the year strongly. Would love to see how many trades the other famous coaches have although I'm not sure if Jolldo87 can still get that data?

On a side note, finally won a captain v vice captain option, having Swan (105) over Ablett (104). :D

Hi guys, I've decided to make an appearance since Dyl name dropped me (I'm Big Sledge at FFC).

The Jacobs scenario is one that is delicately poised. Jacobs is probably Adelaide's most important player, in that we have no one close to AFL standard to replace him if he gets injured. This makes it seem like he is set for a fairly light week at the office. What needs to be determined is whether that is just going to be on the training track or on Sunday. Jacobs has his toughest assignment so far the week after and he will only be coming off a six day break. Good team management would suggest that he will have a light Sunday this week if possible. Whether that means we lose some extra taps by putting Jenkins in that has yet to be seen.

If true this will have two direct outcomes.

a) Jacobs score will be lower, unless he kicks goals.

b) Giles score would logically be higher.

I think all the estimations are wrong I think Jacobs will pull around 95 ceiling and Giles should score around 75. But they are just estimations for this week. Jacobs should finish the year a comprehensively better option although from memory Cox & Nic Nat gave him an absolute bath in the last game of the year.

I'd be interested to hear if any of the FCs who have Franklin are getting rid of him. At the moment he is out for 3 weeks but it could be more (cough, Pendles) or less (cough, Scotland).

Im just about out of trades so I have to hold him. Its absolutely impossible to know how long this injury will last. Saw him yesterday and he was limping around but the talk is that he will start running Saturday. If you can pick this, your a better man then me!

This week hits a lot of coaches hard.

Guys like Buddy who affect everyone bar dylan123 then you have Waters, Ryder & the lingering effects of Goddard & Martin.

Those who are light on trades and depth will be squeezed hard.

For those that are low on trades how are you prioritising trades?

Presumably damage limitation. But it is going to force some into some uncomfortable holds this week.

Hope you went for Jacobs in the end m0nty since he had a big one, guessing you may have been forced to since Giles didn't get named...

Maric's late out really hurt since I had Jenkins playing but opted to have my emergencies in 3 other positions to cover 6/7 players over 2 which didn't pay off. My zero tally now up to 19!!! :(

Will finish on 2285 this week bar any late scoring changes.

Just the one trade, GIles to Jacobs. Scored 2336 which I am happy with. Sam Shaw has been a trooper filling in for BJ. Adams also pulled a passable score.

How are we all traveling? I've moved up from 888th to 721st then 628th over the past two weeks. Been very happy with the progress of my team which continues to even with a donut in each of the past two rounds. Quite annoyed that they would have been avoidable donuts had I knowing the players were going to miss before lockout (Had Jenkins on the bench when Maric was out and Martin stuck in the midfield when Robinson missed) which would see my current rank be almost halved if I had those bench players on for the donuts! :(

The positive of it all is I'm still moving up with zeroes (season tally up to 20!) so if by some miracle I could get 22 players playing I could see a big jump in my ranks!

One can only dream! :D

Used my last trade this week on Robinson to ROK. Final team:

Swan, Boyd, Ablett, S. Thompson, Pendlebury, Priddis

Overall I had a flawed starting team which put me well behind the eight ball with underperformers like Cloke and Martin, plus LTI victims in Fyfe and Goodes. All my trades after round 5 were pretty good, save for the Robinson one. I stuffed around a fair bit with those first five trades, though. I have a good team now, but three donuts last week halted my rise up the rankings. :(

I'd say the problem Monty is the majority of your upgrades asides from Jacobs & Carazzo were to premiums at or very close to their top dollar, which meant you kept using up all your generated cash quickly and didn't manage to sneak in one last super upgrade e.g. having Watson instead of Priddis or a Robinson instead of a Cloke etc. maybe you should try to squeeze a little bit more value out of your trades... e.g. bringing in 400k fwds instead of 450-520k fwds etc.

That was true of Thompson, Heppell, Robinson and Sidebottom, but not for Carrazzo or Priddis who I got for bottom dollar and have been serviceable. I have a certain knack for sabotaging premiums by trading them in, part of the m0nty curse. ;)

You didn't curse Beams, who you got at his bottom price! That trade had a lot more influence on your final ranking.

Thanks for sharing your team so openly this year. Looks like a solid set of trades after a poor start.

It would be interesting to see the set of trades of some of the other coaches. There are one or two train wrecks in there.

Oh, well. Seeing as m0nty shared his, might as well share my sorry bunch that have unfortunately lived up to the name change from No-Stars to Hacks!

I have thought of if my strategy was terrible or if I choose the wrong premiums at the start or missed rookies, etc. And while absolutely there were some picks that were foreseeable that I got wrong, I have a feeling like I have had a pretty bad run with injuries, haven't handled them well in a couple of cases (Swan and Ablett), Got too bye conscience and then just gave up and chased players that were down with a possibility to rebound (Priddus,Redden and Sylvia (that has been a good pick up really, about the only one for the year)).

About 8 trades that I did due to injury (10 if you count a couple that were on way out). Too many side ways trades, especially early!

Without seeing the season next year, and any changes in rules, I am thinking:
1) Return to saving lots of cash to enter the year.
2) Midprice Stadegy
3) I am seriously thinking of pay 0 (i.e. Zero, i.e. None) notice of the byes. If I miss 15 players 1 week, so be it, as long as each time I pick a player, its because I believe they are the absolute best player for that pick under what ever criteria I am picking them that week!
4) Be more conservitive on trading out injured premiums (although, too be fair to myself looking back, I was in big trouble early and wanted to risk chasing points by trading out guys like Swan and Ablett that had iffy injury reports).

So thankfully only 4 more weeks of my worst DreamTeam year ever left!

With 1 and 2, I think at one stage or another (whenever we have our best season) we often find a strategy that best suits our style of play. I know for myself I do quite well with having a handful of midpricers in my side yet I've seen others like Stubz play a very hard rookie/premium strategy and finish up with almost the exact same result at the end of season. It's often said that the GnR strategy is the best way to go however I don't believe that's the case and I think there are all sorts of ways to finish off with a strong rank as long as you find the one that best suits your "style" of play.

With number 3 I agree (although I'd focus a little more on your starting side and maybe the timing of when you upgrade players/positions more then anything). From the get go I never planned to give the byes too much thought this year as I really didn't want it affecting who I traded in, whilst I copped 15 zeroes during the bye rounds (which I think is a few more than most although I that's also partly due to dodgy rookie selections in Smedts and Spurr choosing to only play when they know they're not needed) none of the players in my side were traded in to make the bye rounds any easier and all in since I believed they were the best possible upgrade target and I think its worked great for me this year. Now I'd normally say hopefully VS come up with something else to make the bye rounds a little easier so we don't all get 10 odd zeroes but perhaps I'm better off with it staying just as it is and hoping my way around the byes is better than most. In which that's where the majority I'm competing against trip over by either using more trades then me or trading in poorer players to avoid a zero! :D

As for my own side, I've moved up with 315th overall now with 1 trade in hand. With about 30minutes to lockout I decided to have a look at my team to see if there were any sort of trades I could do (can't help myself) and I had the cash in hand to move Lake to Waters. I wanted to keep my final two trades to avoid zeroes but I figured with Lake averaging 75 odd to Waters 95 and 5 rounds of football left, I'd gain 100 odd points from this upgrade which is what I'd get from avoiding a zero (perhaps a little more). The extra motivation I got to do this trade came from not being able to get a PB ranking so I thought I may as well pull the trigger and take a bit of a risk to get up as high as I possibly can without having anything to lose really. So far I've already gained 49 points in 1 week from this trade so I'm quite happy with the results so far although it's still too early to call, never know how many players go in early for surgery, rested for the finals etc in the final 4 weeks.

Think I'll save my trade review until I use my final trade which hopefully is still a couple of weeks off. :)

I've used my final trades, getting in Baguley and Waters. Resisted the urge to get Scotland because I have one tradition in DT - never make room for Heath Scotland. Ever. Hating him is part of my overall DT experience.

I will do a bit of a trade review soon...I think DT has got to the stage where one bad trade now ruins your season, everthing is so tight you cannot afford mistakes really. I think my biggest error this year was probably missing both Beams and Gibson, 2 players I was certain I would get at some point. Timing just wasn't right.

Last few weeks have been a horror story for my band of brothers unfortunately with bandaids all over the team sheet. Hopefully I can hang in there for the last few rounds and not drop completely out of sight. I think we have all had issues in the forwards. Two weeks ago I was mercifully away when Jacobs gave me a zero, SJ a one, Shaw and Broughts sat on the bench so I got a 33 from Morris, Sidebottom a late withdrawal, Robbo, Buddy injured. Cox and Martin both injured during the game. Stanton injured on 62. One week for my season to turn to kaka. Tale of woe, we all have them.

Would be nice if we got an allocation of trades at say league finals time just to maintain interest - this is the earliest I have ever run out of trades by a long way.

I agree I don't think there ius a right or wrong way to play this game. I have analysed things to death and my personal preference is mid-pricer, don't think I could ever be convinced it is not the way to go because I enjoy it. Even if rankings tend to suggest GnR is the way to go.
